“Far from old town but good value for money.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2011

We were kind of surprised by the location of Le Vert, because no one mentioned it. It's a good 20 minute walk from the old town of Chamonix, or a 10 minute shuttle bus ride. However during non-peak season, the frequency of the bus is not high. The walk is scenic in the backdrop of the Alps, but not when you have a heavy backpack to lug!

Anyway, the hotel is good value for money at 55 euros a night (cheaper than anything you'll find in old town) and has a bar with a chilled out ambience. Worth a stay, as long as you know what you're in for!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the Alps!

The good:
It's cheap. Staff speak English - when you can find them to talk to them. Location is good if you are on a hiking holiday in that it's close to bus and train connections and the hiking trails.
Good bar with huge TV. Free wifi.
The bad:
Rooms are small; bathrooms tiny. The electrics are dodgy (blew and destroyed the plug in our friends phone charger and the entire reservation system had been blown out by a storm the day we arrived). The bar is noisy.
Reception hours are extremely erratic and response to phone/email requests (we tried to book a second night) is spotty.

If you are young, like to party and are budget constrained it's not a bad option; if you are looking for a quiet romantic getaway I would avoid this hotel.

You'll be really impressed by the brilliant location of the Hotel Le Vert, underneath Mont Blanc. Fantastic Bar and fantastic views of Mont Blanc from the Bar and Bar Patio Terrace. Very helpful staff making the hotel a real home from home. Rooms are clean and comfortable, if a tad basic, but ideal to crash out into, after a few beers and some good skiing that day.. Excellent, well equipped Pro Shop available for Ski / Board and Boot hire, off the hotel reception, where Ju is a really helpful and knowledgeable guy. The hotel can be very noisy on the exceptional evenings, i.e Saturday night, boom boom boom, through the whole place. 15 minutes walk from Chamonix village. The Ski Shuttle bus stops outside the door, for getting to Le Tour, Les Grandes Mondes, etc..Top blokes having a great time having a go at running the hotel, livng the dream. Nice one. Excellent for savouring the Big Mountain Scene and looking forward to the next visit SKI trip to Chamonix and Hotel Le Vert,

Room Tip: Front of Hotel for the best views of Mont Blanc

A warm genuine welcome awaits your arrival from the owners to all the staff. Situated a brisk 20 minute walk from the town centre should not be a deterrent - it's a good sobering downhill experience after enjoying the après ski festivities and the hotel kindly lay on a free transfer running on the hour if you don't want take in the beautiful night air. The rooms are basic but clean and our had a sweet balcony where you can sit and take in the amazing views across the valley towards the aiguille du midi. There's a lively bar and restaurant area which appears to attract a regular following. Definitely will be returning in the near future.

I have astayed at the hotel on my own as was taking part in a snowboard camp and the staff have made me feel completely at home. Extremely friendly and helpful in everything to do with hotel service and much further beyond. Unfortunately I had an accident during that week which grounded me from about midweek and what could have turned into the worst holiday ever has been completely saved by the attentiveness and moral and physical support form all the staff. From fixing my board for free, driving around to hospital and back, packing my luggage and keeping me company at the bar after returning from my hospital - I would never have expected any 5* hotel to provide that level of personal care for their guests! I cannot thank them enough!

My room was also a pleasant surprise, after having paid nearly 200EUR more for a chalet holiday 3 weeks earlier where the room for two was half the size (and half the ceiling height), with really thin matresses and crambling beds, I expected the quality in Le Vert to be similar if not worse, but absolutely loved the pine finish, very cosy and with a few modern accessories, which makes a nice difference to the traditional alpine style deco, and the super comfy bed.

Agree on the great food quality and location - is simply stunning, next to a lake and woods, must be even more beautiful in the summer. I will definitely return and recommend anyone who values personal service, and relaxed atmosphere and likes to be in the happening apes ski spot without having to leave the building.

I had the pleasure of going to Le Vert Hotel with one of my buddies over my birthday week in the beginning of February this week. After having spent the last two weeks in "luxury" condos in Verbier and Val Thorens, it was so nice to come back down to an actual skiers and riders hotel. There is a pro shop in the lobby with free demos from Black Diamond Skis and DC Snowboards and free usage of their waxing and tuning table. After riding, coming back for the 15 euro pitcher and 8 wings deal was amazing as well, especially considering they make some of the best chicken wings I have ever tasted.

The staff of the hotel are all very friendly and helpful, giving us lots of recommendations on where to eat, go out, etc. More importantly, everyone in the hotel, staff and patrons alike, are there to go ski all day, which is a very nice attitude change from the majority of european ski hotels that I have stayed in.

The value is also unbeatable for what you receive. Yes, the rooms are a bit small. However, the beds are incredibly comfortable and my room also had the nicest hotel shower that I have ever used.

I would recommend this hotel to a group of friends going to Chamonix together. I don't think this is a great place to go with your spouse and two kids, however if you are a serious skier and want to go to chamonix with your buddy and ski all the famous terrain, this should be your first consideration.

The staff will definitely make your stay worthwhile (great service, memorable parties, good food, away from the town center madness): one reason to come back. The valley and the view: is another, can't deny it. Whether with a small group of friends or bigger crowds, I can't imagine staying anywhere else but with the Vert crew.
