Have stayed at the hotel twice and therefore it can't be that bad as we went back.
The good things
Location ~ as it is only yards from the slopes and lift. There are also plenty of restaurants which are handy as the hotel does not do lunch or dinner
Clean~ the rooms were cleaned daily and the cleanliness was good.

Bad
The breakfasts were not great. Not much choice and you had to ask staff for bread etc
The bar~ expensive and a bit scruffy

Having been twice I would not return and go somewhere with a little more luxury.

This is a no frills hotel. Don't expect any luxury. If you're after skiing and looking for a good value hotel to stay in what is generally an expensive resort, then Edelweiss is the hotel you need. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are well heated (sometimes overheated), the hotel is fairly clean and the manager is responsive. The hotel's location is 5mn walk to Courchevel 1650 main lifts with an easy access to courchevel 1850 ski area and the whole 3 valleys.

The hotel is not overstaffed so there's no automatic porterage but you can get help if you ask and wait for someone to be available.

The room we had was basic but well maintained and very clean, with a double and single bed, bathroom and balcony (not overlooking the piste but with a view of the mountain across the valley if you look past the apartment opposite). On arrival we found two small problems but they were fixed by the time we got back from short stroll through the village. The only downside to the room was lack of tea/coffee facilities.

There's a boot/ski room but it's quite small so at busy times there are people changing in the corridor.

Breakfast is a good continental selection: cereal, cheese, ham, bread. toast. preserves, juice, tea and coffee, but I heard some people say the boiled eggs were underdone.

There's no lunch or evening menu so the bar didn't attract many non-residents but it was quite friendly and the prices were as good as, or better than, others in the area but with a smaller range of choices.

I'd certainly go back again.

The only irritations? The complimentary Wi-Fi* mentioned on the website is no longer available and as an independent traveller I'd get a clearer guarantee of the price, in advance. Queries on both issue got a shrug, but neither was significant enough to stop me going back.

*There is free Wi-Fi in the The Bubble Bar 35 metres down the road if you take your own laptop/PDA or you can use their machines for a few €. Even if you don't want Wi-Fi it's worth visting The Bubble.
NB French keyboards have an AZERTY rather than QWERTY layout, so you might prefer to use your own.

  • Liked — Room was well maintained and clean
  • Disliked — Due to illness we spent a lot of time in the room, the advertised free Wi-Fi would have been good to have.

This is the 4th year I have stayed at the Edelweiss, we always stay over the xmas and New Year period and cannot fault the experience. The hotel is the best Value for money in Courchevel 1650. The rooms are basic, they are on-suit and they are also clean and Tidy. Room service everyday. This hotel is not for those looking for a Jacuzzi or Sauna in the evening. It's Bed and Breakfast only, but with all the lovely French restaurants a stones through away who needs hotel food. The hotel also has a bar with atmosphere! Bruno and Elizabeth will do everything to make sure your stay with them is the best. This is a hotel for those who are on a budget but I really shouldn’t be telling anyone as this is the best little secret in Courchevel with regard to accommodation, and it is also situated about 150 yards from the main lift out of 1650.

We stayed at this hotel in March '05 and I've held onto their business card for this long with the intention of spreading a good word about it. Considering how expensive things can be when skiing in Courchevel, this hotel was a smoking good deal (around 100 euro per night) and was located just one block from the gondola. It has a cute little patio where you can enjoy apres ski. At night, you can return from a restaurant and enjoy a beverage at the hotel bar while playing a game of pool, sitting by the fire, or watching one of the tasteful musicians they select to play on their tv. We loved watching Phil Collins in concert DVD! The rooms are nothing special, but they are certainly not bad. The bathrooms were clean and we had no problems with noise. The breakfast was excellent. Initially we were worried about staying in 1650 because we had read that 1800 was better, but after taking a trip to 1800 and seeing how overbuilt it was, we felt very lucky to have found a spot at l'Edelweiss in 1650. It is a quaint little ski town with plenty of good restaurants and shops. Check it out, you won't be disappointed!
