“Horrid Parents”
Reviewed 8 April 2014

Enjoy Mark Warner, it is what it says on the tin. But the clients are largely professional public sector with children in private schools. The hotel was packed with children. They ran riot from the start to the end and from early to late every day. At one point they were allowed to spit food at each other without discipline. If you are liberal you will love this, but if you have standards of behaviour and consideration for others I would not recommend it. Pity, as location and staff are excellent. Let down by parents.

Room Tip: Another hotel.

Helped by fresh snow fall I had the most wonderful week at Chalet Hotel Dahu, its everything my travel agent Skiline said it would be, simple in style and a perhaps a little shabby but with great food, wine and wonderful staff... I see the previous reviewers comment about the manager, who I thought was very good and ran the hotel very well.

The location was perfect just 150m from the slopes. Yet again my Travel agent didn't let me down, the week of the 23rd was one of the cheapest weeks this season and Im pleased to say I paid less than others who also thought they had a good deal... I would return, Mark Warner are great for single people.

Overall a significantly below average experience (in the context of previous Mark Warner ski holidays), mainly due to a semi-incompetent manager. (Think Basil Fawlty - sort of endearing but not the sort of person you'd actually want to run a hotel!).

Every aspect of the hotel and service, whilst just about OK as an overall package, had something wrong with it. Unfortunately, as suggested above, it seemed that the hotel's manager was responsible for many of the problems! (Whilst possessed of a friendly and presumably capable team, he just didn't seem to "get it" or really have a grip of what was going on). For instance, our room was filthy on arrival (dust and hair surrounding the bath, and no towels), one of our suitcases was lost (for 5 hours) between the ground floor and our room (it's not that big a hotel!), the restaurant never seemed to manage seating people properly (such that there were always an unlucky few (my party on one occasion) left waiting for someone else to finish before being ushered in to eat (at gone 9 o'clock) and rushed through 3 courses in less than an hour so that the staff could head out partying!) and, on the last day, nobody took the initiative to try and round up guests to board the transfer minibuses (most of the guests were eating breakfast in the restaurant - it hardly required much common sense to announce the fact that minibuses were ready to leave (!), with the manager literally standing in the lobby doing nothing). To add insult to injury, he then tapped his watch and made sarcastic comments when confused guests made their way to the minibuses!! Really quite unacceptable.

Mark Warner need to put somebody in charge of this place that can get a grip of it.... For the time being, I'm afraid it's put me (and two of my travelling companions, who have been on 11 Mark Warner ski holidays together) right off of using them again.

Apart from the ski slopes, the highlight of the holiday was the friendly, attentive and very patient staff at Dahu. Everyone in this forum agrees the hotel needs a lick of paint but despite this, it was scrupulously clean throughout. The first ski lift is barely a hundred metres from the front door, so its perfectly situated. Food was great and plenty of it ( likewise wine ) - by midweek I'd started to cut back on breakfasts and afternnon tea. My only criticism is that the wifi should work better and be free - emails and internet are just part of the modern world - MW should accepet this. My room was a bit small and the bed not brilliant but it was the last single room they had. Other rooms were better.
Overall, Dahu was good to very good, all the staff get an excellant full marks - would be happy to use MW again.

This was our 2nd visit to Dahu and what a great holiday once again. Not going to mention the decor as everyone else has and the location compensates for it. Only moan is the wifi. Not reliable and crazy to charge 15€ per devise. Fantastic staff. Sue the manager even after breaking her collarbone was still smiling and very attentive to all guests needs. Sophie and her team in the resto did a great job and always with a smile. Dave in the kitchen served fab food giving 3 choices for each course! Yes rooms small but you only sleep in them! Skiing in the 3 valleys is just the best in the world. Lift network is awesome. Hoping the French courts make the correct descion re ski hosting as that is the only thing missing. Though Flo and Rupert did a great job sorting groups and fun after dinner bar games. Must not forget Rosie from Viva. Fantastic massages, a great way to treat yourself after a hard day skiing or not!

Room Tip: Best rooms are prob on top floor and far end on road side. Room 33 and 34 are adjoining. Great for f...

As all previous reviews have stated the hotel is tired & the boot room very small. However everything else more than makes up for it. Susan & her fantastic team make you feel very welcome. We were a group of 9 and had great fun. Amazing resort. People should ask themselves where do they expect to stay in 1850 at this price?? When the hotel is fully refurbished I'm sure this will be reflected.

Room Tip: We were 3, 5 & 8. All on 2nd floor with street view, balcony .

This is our 3rd time to the Dahu, and yes it is tired but, you cannot beat the location and the skiing !

Staff was simply fantastic, Mark Warner always seems to find the most friendly, enthusiastic and polite staff.

The ski route notes given out to address the issue of not being allowed to ski host worked well, and it gave those who did not want to ski in a group some nice touring options.

The prices in Courchevel are eyewatering so here are a few money saving tips ;

Sit in the right hand corner ( when facing the window) of the lounge and you can log on the chalet le forum WIFI for free.

If there is more than 2 of you, pick up your own ski pass as you get a discount of 10 Euro per person on the new pricing system, a bigger saving if there is more of you.

If you drive ( as we did), buy your weekly parking ticket from the hotel reception and you will save 40 Euros on a weeks parking.

We decided to drive as we hate the traditional airport scrum, and would certainly do it again, there wasn't much of a discount from Warners for driving.

Eurotunnel across quick and easy, car packed to the roof with stuff, but room left for the necessary wine purchases on the return trip.

Stopped over night at Nuit St George and made it up to mountain by lunch, if we had thought about it we could have set off earlier in the morning and had an extra day skiing.

Motorway all the way until the last 15 miles and then a good road up the mountain. Plenty of space in the le crossette underground car pack.

Pulled up at the hotel and the staff unloaded and took our bags to the room and then offered to valet park to the car.

Purchased a nice selection of wine on the way home.

I have only one complaint about the hotel, the bedrooms are incredibly hot, we need to open our windows at night.
