“relaxing small hotel with stunning views”
Reviewed 17 September 2013

Lucky enough to have a "superior lake view" room and the views lived up to the room description, from the swans directly outside, and across to Lausanne on a clear day! Although there are a lot of "nick nacks" around , the whole place is kept stunningly clean and they do add a certain charm to the place - it is a cross between an old country house and your Great Aunts house! . The staff are all very pleasant and mostly multi lingual. Very good selection at breakfast. Unfortunately I didn't get to eat there at lunchtime as was working but we was fortunate enough to eat there on three evenings and the food and wine are fabulous - great quality and value for money. You should book a table in the lakeside area - it is very popular place to eat with locals and was very busy every evening that we were there, which made for a great atomosphere in the restaurant. It is a fifteen minute stroll along the lakeside from the centre of town. Car parking is available over the road. We didn't have time to use the pool or the mini golf! A big plus point for me was the two friendly labradors who live here and who add to the whole home away from home experience. Would definitely stay here again! ps - have had to rate Fitness Centre and Room Service as "Terrible" as there isn't a Not Applicable button!!

Room Tip: Lake view room!

The rear rooms are tiny , stuffy and cluttered. Potpourri masks a bathroom problem? The entire hotel is full of teddy bears , cushions , postcards , paintings and whatever else you can imagine.
Breakfast was good once one established what was food and what was decor. The view over the lake is amazing though it is difficult getting around the dining room with all the clutter.
I tried to have dinner there but the waiter ignored me for 20 minutes and then I was told the kitchen was now closed. All staff seem to have a 'If you do not like it , leave!' Indeed , I hope not to return.
Finally , I can imagine that young couples could have a five star experience here , the setting is sooooo romantic.

Room Tip: A lake facing room is a must , if you have to stay here.

On a motoring trip to Italy, we had three nights stop mid August at Les Cygnes. Its location lakeside is first class, but it is a bit out of town, about 3/4 mile to the centre/Lausanne ferry stage. Car parking was always easy, either in the small one across the road or 100yds up the road opposite at a public car park. Pre-booked months before through Booking.com, there was no problem with check in etc, and front desk staff were fine.
Yes, as mentioned by others the rooms are on the small side, but OK for a short stay. Room decorations are however quirky with cushions, bits and bobs all over the place - a room service maid's nightmare! Be aware that there is no lift and it is 59 steps up the main stairs to the top (third) floor. Staff however were always helpful with cases etc. These minor irritations apart, this was a very pleasant place to stay - certainly in fine weather, with the lakeside garden and dining areas by the lake.
Judging by its popularity, the restaurant is highly commended. However, being on a DB&B package, our dinner was restricted to the lowest €18 menu, which although adequate did not have a choice. Other menus €29 -€39 and the a la carte were impressive would have would have given one a chance to be venturesome. Buffet breakfast was above average for this standard of hotel.
Access by car to the centre of town was no problem, with several underground carparks - low cost and on Sundays free!

Room Tip: Lake view for quietness, first floor if stairs are a problem

We opted for a cheaper room at 92€ (with no lake view). Although not in the center of Evian, the hotel is located right on the lake and has cute gardens where you can have a meal or drinks. We did not eat at the restaurants but did try the breakfast. It's expensive (14€), but there is a huge, nice variety. You can sip your morning tea looking out at the boats on the lake. As for the room, it was not very clean (stain on the comforter on the bed, hair in the shower). There was too much clutter everywhere (supposedly decoration). In addition, the walls were paper thin. We unfortunately heard every word of a telephone conversation next door, as well as the nightly cries of a baby in the other room next to us. The reception staff was not very kind, and we felt like we were a bit in the way, even when trying to pay! The next day, we decided to move to the Hôtel Continental in the center of Evian, and for the same price had a much better experience.

We had just arrived in Evian and our hosts kindly made a table reservation for us at this hotel's restaurant in the lovely outdoor section. The food was very good and considering the large seating capacity, (no empty seats), the service was perhaps not the fastest in the world but nonetheless perfectly adequate to allow a relaxing meal. Our hosts' recommendation of this restaurant was fully justified and we would happily return there.

The staff and service where the worst experience I faced during my trip in France. The restaurant staff struggled to do the simple things well and the food was bland and tasteless.

The check out was a shambles and I had to a explain there over charging mistakes to get them fixed. Having stayed at other much less expensive 4 and 5 star hotels in France I was disappointed with my stay and will avoid "Hotel Les Cygnes" from this point on.

We stopped at Les Cygnes by chance. We eat outside under the shade of the grapes with a lake view, the place is cosy and clean. The personnel is friendly and they make you feel welcome.
The food is awesome! Presented in a gourmet way. It is really worth going!!
