stayed here for 2 nights on business. It is located in the nicest part of Grenoble - on place Grenette with very close proximity to restaurants, bars, cafes etc. I had a decent size room (double bed) and breakfast for 2 nights for 145 euro which is good value. The hotel was very clean and the staff I met were friendly and helpful. The breakfast is the usual continental stuff but was fine for my needs. I did not have a car - so cannot comment on the parking situation - although i can imagine it might be tricky to maneuver a car around this area of town. The only downside was that the hotel was quite noisy - especially on the first night. I could hear people and TV sets clearly in other rooms. There was also some noise outside when the bars closed. Also the shutters on the balcony were not so easy to close (had to do this manually). Otherwise highly recommended.

Small room and small bathroom, but clean and quite comfortable. Free wifi in the room. Nice breakfast. Cheap parking nearby. Do not expect a top class hotel for this price, but we had nothing to complain about.

We booked in on a whim and what a pleasant surprise. Small but clean and recently renovated room with all the essentials. Many overlooking the main pedestrian square with a small balcony and a mountain view. Very friendly lively and helpful staff. Decent breakfast for 9 euro. Things I wish we'd known before booking - It's hard to access by car or GPS as its on a pedestrian square, we went round and around. Parking is an issue in Grenoble, hotel has a deal with a local garage but best to ask about it before you arrive. The street is very very noisy at night and the rooms pretty hot with no easy way to lower the temperature other than open the balcony doors. We were treated to non stop drunken partiers to the wee hours of the morning. Also, the second floor is really 6 half-flights up a winding staircase as there're two floors under it (0 and 1) and during our stay the elevator sometimes didn't work. Hard on the older folks. But overall I really liked this stay, it's a great value loaded with charm.

Thanks to poor planning on our part, we stayed a night in Grenoble ~ a disappointing city if ever there was one. L'Hotel de l'Europe served our needs in a convenient location, and the price for single travelers or smaller parties is quite reasonable. As we have 7 in our family, though, and France is stringent about room occupancy numbers, we paid a premium for what ultimately is a humdrum hotel with no special amenities and forgettable service. Two of our three rooms smelled strongly of stale smoke. One shower didn't work properly. And we were all subjected to some sort of protest parade and the accompanying noise and firecrackers until three in the morning. We *love* city night life and are perfectly comfortable with a degree of noise & activity. But this was beyond ridiculous, and the hotel staff had zero interest whatsoever in the issue.

If we're lucky, we'll never again land in Grenoble for a stopover but if we do, we'll head outside the city for accommodations.

The Hotel de l'Europe is perfect for a budget traveler: the price for a single room is 68 euro, there is a lift big enough to take luggage, the bed is very comfortable and the room is not cramped and has a separate bathroom. My favorite part was the balcony - big enough to sit on - overlooking the Place Grenette, perfect for people-watching & mountain-gazing. All but one of the staff spoke enough English to answer my questions, and one walked outside and around the corner with me, to point me in the direction of the internet cafe. I planned to stay one night, and ended up staying 3 b/c it was so comfortable and so centrally located. I recommend it!

It's a strange building, perhaps two or more old buildings amalgamated. There's a curious central staircase in a six-storey stairwell. On the first floor is a cage with five budgerigars and the breakfast room. Breakfasts not recommended. Had it been warmer, I would have paid the extra and eaten out. My top-floor room had a small balcony overlooking a square, Galeries Lafayette, and the Bastille with its surrounding mountains. Quite a view. The hotel had clearly been recently refurbished, and everything was new, but bland and joyless, with little attention paid to aesthetics. The desk was helpful, though I didn't try English. A useful place, but not one I would choose for pleasure.

This hotel was definitely worth its stay. The staff was very nice and spoke a good amount of English. There was a small lift great for baggage, which was very helpful in getting everything up to the room. The rooms were pleasant, basic but clean and orderly. Like any European hotel, the rooms were on the smaller end, but it was definitely comfortable enough. The bathrooms were clean and functioning, and there was a fair amount of closet space.
The location was great, close to many shops and restaurants. It was a great area for walking around, especially at night, and exploring many of the different streets and courtyards of Grenoble, which I would definitely suggest to do while in Grenoble.
I would suggest getting a room facing the street, preferably with a balcony. It can be a bit noisier (though noise definitely wasn't a problem), but it's great for people watching while sitting out on the balcony. If it's good weather, keep the windows open and sit out on the balcony. It's fun to people watch and take in the sights of the city. We went to the breakfast one morning, it had a good assortment of food, nothing spectacular but it was all good. Overall, it was a great and modest hotel with a good staff and in a great area of Grenoble. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street with a balcony are definitely more interesting and enjoyable.
