You have to go in here with an open mind, as the menu is chosen for you. You can choose 4 or 7 courses, we opted for 4 which was plenty, and we also allowed them to choose wines for us to drink with our meal. Every dish was beautifully presented, my favourites were the amuse bouche, the Fois gras starter (very light!), and a spinach soup. Words can not describe the fun we had tasting the creations. The service was very attentive but not obtrusive. A wonderful way to spend a few hours, no fast food here! Coffee served with petits fours to finish was just a step too far for me, someone else had to polish off the chocolate confection.

“Good experience”
Reviewed 26 August 2012

Eskis is a small and intimate place with a modern feel.
The experience of the molecular cooking will stay with us for a long time.
However we also had to wait for quite a while between dishes. This could have been balanced by more attention on our wine glasses. Some of the dishes are exceptional especially the "Salad Lyonaise". The staff refered often to "playing" with flavours but the playfulness was drowned out by service having a less playful even serious demeanour around the food they served.

“Fantastic gourmet dinner”
Reviewed 10 July 2012

The restaurant and the atmosphere was special. The interior had a nature theme and the atmosphere was electric. We were served an amuse bouche before we got the meny, an amazing small appetizer with lots of taste, and it showed the chefs creativity.
We chose the Eskis meny for the evening. There were many highlights during the dinner, one of them was the amazing cheese plate...which was a chevrè icecream!! Another was a wagyu beef which melted on your tongue.
We had an excellent evening, a creative meal experience.
We recommend this restaurant for those who wants to experience something new with the french cooking touch.
We are certaintly going backnext time we`re in Lyon!

“Gourmet dining”
Reviewed 2 July 2012

The restaurant itself is small and austere with a black, white and gray color theme. We had the fixed menu with wine pairings. If you like like molecular gastronomy (which I fully recognize isn't everyone's cup of tea) then you will appreciate the vivid tastes and beautiful presentations. My one quibble (for my preference), there was a bit too much foam usage.
The sommelier acted as our waiter to describe the dishes that were served and he had us guess each wine pairing at the end of the course. It was very fun interchanging with him as he had a lot of passion both about the wine and the food. The pairings were excellent, really bringing out the individual tastes of the tiny morsels.
This is a special experience and, although it is not inexpensive, I thought it was a good value for the type of experience.

“The best restaurant in Lyon – would deserve a Michelin star”
Reviewed 28 April 2012

If you look at my other reviews, you’ll see that I’ve been to several Michelin-starred restaurants, and I think Eskis would deserve to be part of them.

Dishes are beautiful, creative and tasty.

A list of products are written in the menu, you just have to mention the one you don’t like or are allergic to, and then, the chef will work magic on your dishes. (49 or 65 euros)
From Monday to Thursday, there’s also a set menu (starter, fish or meat, dessert for 35 euros)

You should definitely have some cheese in here: they are also transformed by the chef and at the moment, the Beaufort is fantastic.

The menu changes every month, which is amazing according to the work required to achieve such a tasty creativity.

Even if I have dinner there every month, I’m still staring at the liquid nitrogen dessert being done in the middle of the restaurant.

Regarding other comments:
yes, it takes about 4 hours and a half to have dinner here, but when you dine there, “you’re having dinner”, you’re not just eating out.
Free tap water is available, just ask for it.
Service is really professional,
and the 3 glasses of wine you can have along your dishes for 23 euros are always perfectly chosen.

Overall, dining at Eskis is a great experience for "gourmets".

Book ahead.
