“Small town friendliness in a big city”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

We have stayed here many times since 2000, and each time it gets better. Anne, the owner, is continually improving the common areas, rooms, and amenities (i.e. we did not have to unplug the TV to charge our phones - this became a bit of a game for us during this trip). The room was clean and fresh. The staff is friendly and helpful, and apparently happy as many have worked there for over 10 years! Very convenient location and reasonable prices. And the breakfast buffet had the freshest baguettes of our trip!

It was the closest hotel to the place I had to walk at and fair enough, most reasonably priced. It's non pretentious, on a fairly quiet street in Lyon. A few blocks from a very impossing St. Pithin church (Catholic) with it's colums. The staff are helpful and I had what I needed. That's the good stuff. At about €110 for a single classic room with single bed shaped rectangularly and my hands can touch the two wall on both sides, it's a bit pricey. Bsic furniture though clean. Very basic breakfast (definitely not worth €8.91). It was functional though could do with refurbishing!

This is a simple, clean, quiet, comfortable hotel that is very well priced for the location. Close enough to downtown and the metro. The staff, however, were exceptional and really made it a great stay. They gave us suggestions and directions, accommodated all our baby-specific needs, let us leave bags for a few days after we left, were patient with my terrible French and generally were very personable and kind. A really great stay.

Small hotel and was available when many other grander places were fully booked. Simple and small rooms with basic furnishings, but clean. Small no-frills ensuite with a shower, not a bath. We found it quiet at night and got a good sleep. This was OK for me since we didn't plan on spending much time in the rooms. I went in October, but I do not think the rooms had air conditioning. Thus they could get hot in middle of the summer.

The staff were very friendly and spoke good English. The neighbourhood is smart, quiet and safe, but with some interesting shops, cafes and restaurants. It is about 10 to 15 minutes pleasant walk across the Rhone into the centre of the city. No real need to use the metro although the Foch station is about 5 minutes from the hotel.

Room Tip: No air-con so maybe avoid the street side in summer if you want to open the windows at night,

Ending there as it was the last free room in town (under EUR 150.-) we slept okay, althought the street is noisy and the neighbours tv was loud. Stuff was quite friendly and the place is clean. Rooms and furniture is hardcore ugly, with cheap material and terrible patterns/colors from the early 1990s (the badest choice)! Also the bahtroom was very Basic and even a bit shabby.
We wehre there on a midweek day in september and payed EUR 115.- what is definitly overpriced for this poor standard.
Would try to find a better and cheaper place.

...it's 2 blocks to the metro, in a relatively fancy part of town, they welcomed our little white dog, our room was clean and quiet, they gave us great tips on what to do in Lyon as well as Annecy, our next city to visit.

On arrival we asked about where to find an excellent lunch and they directed us to a nearby bistro on rue de Seze, for a perfect meal, 'pas cher,' with everything made 'in house.'

And there was a good Wifi connection.
What more do you want for the price?

I stayed at Au Logis de Vendome for two nights while attending an academic conference. It just happened to be extremely hot, so the fact that they don’t have air con was a bit of a shame. (They do have ceiling fans though) But I still feel it’s worth recommending this hotel as although it’s by no means luxurious the owners are very welcoming helpful, and it’s clean and well maintained. So if you are on a budget it could be a good option, as it’s not expensive at all. It’s on a side street so reasonably quiet for a big city. I think the rooms at the back would be even quieter as they face away from the street, but in the summer they are hot as they face west, as the helpful proprietor explained to me. The furnishings are a bit basic, but everything works, and is in good repair, with nice fresh decoration (though the colour scheme is a bit 80s- lots of peach paint). I can’t stress enough how friendly and helpful they were, but I speak French so I’m not sure how they deal with people who don’t. It’s in a traditional nineteenth century French city apartment block so rooms are typically not huge by North American standards, but perfectly adequate for those used to European hotels. It’s a little way out of the centre in a residential neighbourhood, which I see as a good thing as it’s much less touristy and quieter than central hotels. But at the same time everything is very accessible by Metro or tram, and there is a metro stop 5 minutes walk away. I’d definitely recommend it.
