Description: The Café-Épicerie owes its name to the history of Vieux-Lyon and the fact that it found itself on the very crossroads of the 16th century spice industry. A long, steel bar guides the visitor to the entrance of the Café-Épicerie and its refined and contemporary setting... On the menu in this elegant café, Anthony Bonnet has created a flavor which rhymes with freshness, as originality does with lightness. The menu highlights the presence of spices, aromatic oils and aromas. As soon as the weather allows, specialty dishes can be enjoyed on the shaded terrace.

This restaurant was on a short list of recommended places to eat given to us by the lady we are renting a vacation house from. We recognized the name while walking down the street at lunch time and decided to give it a shot. My husband got the menu du jour and I ordered the Tuna. Both came with bread and sinfully delicious potatoes. The menu also came with a dessert -he chose the pistachio creme and after seeing the tiramisu avec frambroise, I HAD to order a dessert as well! Both were amazing, as was the exceptional service we received. All of that plus a bottle of water, two glasses of wine and two espressos cost about 60 extremely well spent euros! I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Well located, welcoming and efficient staff. Broad (Lyonnaise) menu and wine list.
Efficient and friendly service.
Not a gastronomic experience, nor a cafe or Bouchon, but the food was well prepared and presented.

If you are a solo traveller, this place does not make you feel welcome. The good food does not make up for the unkind service.

We got in here on a busy Friday night after trying another couple of places which were already full. The staff were attentive and the atmosphere relaxing. We had escargots to share as a starter and they were good and garlicy. Our mains were not exceptional especially my steak. It was billed as 'a piece of Simmental beef' and I have been very impressed with meat from this breed in the past. However, this piece was fatty and stringy and despite being very carefully cooked it was not enjoyable. It is hard to understand how they can serve this sort of thing when you can see the most beautiful meat on display at any butchers or in the markets. However, the mashed potato which was a speciality of the house did not disappoint. Given the choice of restaurants in Lyon, I would not hurry back here.
