The whole area around here and the various shops and restaurants. You will need at least 2 hours to explore the area. The area is easily accessible by Metro ( the most cost effective way to travel) as are most areas of Lyon. The food in most places in Lyon is of a high standard.

A rather bland street with downtrodden looking buildings and ordinary chain shops. Not much character at all!!

I don't understand why this is so highly rated, its just a street in Lyon. It has shops but I don't see what's so special about it. There are much nicer things to see in Lyon.

If you travel to France from the US as we did, why in the world would you find the commercial strip of Lyon an attraction? Stay at home and visit the biggest mall you can find. Almost the same thing, except in Lyon you can walk 2 blocks over to Rue Mercier and find an atmosphere rarely found in the US. So if you find yourself on Republique,(a.k.a. American mall) run don't walk to Rue Mercier. There you will find France.

This is one of the main streets in Lyon. It is a major shopping area. Nice area to stroll and window shop. A large portion of the street is for pedestrians only. Few blocks from both rivers. Worth a stroll.
