Maybe this place is not for everybody only because some may find it boring. I didn't. This is because I work in the fashion and textile industry. Anyhoo - the experience of the museum is great because I think it tends to be one of those museums that are not always overcrowded and busy. So you can take your time. Oh, and no photos! (Which I like, makes you actually experience the place your self and not through a lens). Highly recommend for history and fashion buffs.

As a sewist and lover of textiles, I was very excited to go visit this museum. While I loved the displays, most of the narrative was only in French. In some rooms there was a note indicating that there was an English guide however most were missing. The partner museum of Decorative Arts had beautiful and extensive displays with French only descriptions.

This is in fact 2 museums in 1. The tissus are interesting, but perhaps a little specialised. The Arts Décoratifs is a real pleasure. The museum building is an historic town house and the rooms are furnished with an exquisite collection of furniture, paintings, pottery and other objects d'art. It may be an exhibition, but it has retained the feel of a family home. For those who are interested, a further advantage is that the surrounding streets are full of antique shops. No non-philistine could fail to be delighted.

this museum was on my wishlist since a while.
it turned out to be much smaller than i had imagined, but still very interesting. to reach the museum, it is a very easy walk from place bellecour.
after the museums, we had a late lunch at a great restaurant, right across the street.( review posted)
all in all, a must-do if you are interested in textiles and decorative arts.
