We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Boulevardier. All of Lyon is reachable by foot from the hotel, with the Hotel de Ville and Musée des Beaux Arts particularly close. There are nice restaurants and bars in the surrounding streets too. The hotel itself is also a jazz bar/restaurant which looked great but was unfortunately closed while we were there. We stayed in room number 14, for 3 people, which was great value and very spacious - a huge bathroom with a lovely shower and even our own personal porch area! The staff were extremely friendly and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel, to anyone looking for a pit stop hotel in a beautiful city! We were welcomed by friendly staff who were very happy to help! Fantastic location, walking distance to Place Bellecour, the fine arts museum and a handful of other sites! We had a triple room with an en suite and even had our own personal outside space! Bathroom and room, both modern and clean. All in all a hotel which is well worth a visit!

The hotel is very well located in the old city, walking distance to most sights, & easily accessible by public transport to others. The room was clean. Our room looked across the road to the Church, which was a really interesting & different view to have.
The bathroom was quite small, & the shower very small- almost unmanageably small! They could do with putting a shelf in the shower space to put gels & shampoos on to help make it less awkward to use. The room was definitely well heated; in fact we had to open the window it was so warm. However that is far preferable to being freezing cold!
Cedric was lovely; very helpful & friendly. The bar downstairs is so cosy & wonderful. It is obviously a real locals haunt, with excellent hot chocolate & good red wine served up with a side of wonderfully tasty cured meat.
My main frustration was the noise in the morning, from the daily garbage collection, & the trucks & cars, from quite early in the morning. Our room was over the street, so even with the window closed the noise was still audible.

We stayed at Hotel Le Boulevardier for 2 nights in March 2009.
The Good: It was very well located in the city of Lyon, just besides the Church of St Nizier. Our room has a view of the gargoyles of the church.
The room (Twin room with attached shower & WC) is very spacious. There is even a van Gogh "Sunflower" and a artistic curtain on the wall of our room.
There is a young, good looking & tall staff who attended to us when we checked in. He was very helpful & friendly, who helped us to carry some of our luggages and even showed us where to go in Lyon.
The hotel is located in a quiet street beside the church, therefore there is no problems of noise.

The Not-so-Good: Firstly, the spiral staircase is a problem for us with our heavy luggages, because of its narrow steps.
We wanted to check in in the morning but because the room is not ready for us, we had to check in later in the day and collect the keys from this keybox on the second floor. Now, the problem came when we came back at night to find that the key was not in the keyboxes and the room that we were supposed to check into, was locked. But, the same tall helpful staff came to help us & got someone (maybe the boss?) with the key.
The heater of the room was not exactly working very well. We could not control the amount of heat it radiated. So, when we closed the windows and turn on the heater, it will be at full blast and after awhile, the room became an oven. I had to wake up in the middle of the night to open the windows to let in some cold winter air. But after awhile, the room became too cold. We could not sleep well due to this.
One major problem is the BEDBUGS. After sleeping on one of the twin beds, i got rows of rashes on my neck, shoulders and arms. it only happened to me and not my girlfriend maybe because she was sleeping on the other bed.

Overall, Hotel le Boulevardier is a nice hotel and if there is no issues with the bedbugs and heater, it wil be a perfect budget hotel.

Well...bedbugs. Our first night was spent being bitten by these suckers, though they didn't seem too numerous and never bothered us again after that first night, as they changed our room for us. There are LOTS of stairs and floors, with few rooms on each floor. The "hotel" part of Le Boulevardier has a bit of a ratty interior, but nothing life-threatening. You can enter through the restaurant itself, but it didn't seem worth it to actually eat the breakfast there. Friendly and accomadating staff who went to all lengths to assure us a good stay. If you're in Lyon on the weekend, don't miss a wonderful farmers market filled with all kinds of excellent food on the river near Le Boulevardier, along one of the quais. Excellent for a cheap breakfast.
