“Great Location beside old town in Lyon”
Reviewed 6 March 2013

I stayed in this hotel in February 2013. Had a room for 3 adults (one double and one single bed) on the first floor. Location is excellent and owner Cedric is a gentleman. Room and shower are top class & great value given the low cost per room. Will stay there again, which says it all in my book.
Thanks Cedric for you hospitality! Reviewed by JC Dublin, Ireland

Excellent location right in the centre of town and walking distance to everything. Very cheap, but the rooms were still clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good. Cedric and the other staff were friendly and helpful.

I stayed in a room on the first floor that had a very nice view onto the old cathedral next door. The first 2 nights of my stay the bar downstairs was closed and it was very quiet in my room, but the third night the bar was open and there was a bit of noise that may be a problem for light sleepers, but was ok for me (maybe the higher floors are quieter though).

The only (very minor) negatives are: that the toilet room was very small to the point of being awkward to use; As I think others have mentioned, the spiral stairway is rather awkward to navigate with luggage, but Cedric helped me on arrival; The rooms had no air conditioning and I found it a bit stuffy with the window closed but too noisy with it open. For the price though, I was very happy. I would definitely reccommend this place to others (as long as you're not expecting 5 star accomodation!)

Room Tip: maybe ask for a higher floor if you're a light sleeper

For some, location is everything; for others, affordability is crucial. This hotel serves both these requirements admirably. For us, though, it is the kindness, the hospitality of the staff that is formost, and Cederic surpassed our hopes. The directions and suggestions he proposed were flawless. When we asked about internet cafes, he offered the use of his own laptop. When we asked about taxi service, he called for us. The jazz bar/cafe where he serves a tasty continental breakfast (6 euros for juice, great breads, and superb coffee) is filled with antiques and he is slowing and lovingly making renovations to this oldest hotel in Lyon. Cederic and his hotel made our stay in Lyon!

Room Tip: We stayed in Room #7 on the top floor overlooking St. Nizier's Church. The stairs could be a cha...

It's not the Hilton but the rooms are clean and the owner is a friendly helpful person. The rooms can be a bit hit and miss. On our first stay, we had an older room that unfortunately had been smoked in. It wasn't enough to deter us from coming back a second time a few weeks later on our way out of France. We had a renovated room and no smoke smell.
The location can't be beat and I like the view out of the giant windows onto the historic St. Nizier church. The Japanese sushi restaurant next door is a good place to eat as well.
For one of the cheapest places to stay in Lyon, you definitely get good value for money.

Room Tip: First floor rooms are better than second floor.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Boulevardier. All of Lyon is reachable by foot from the hotel, with the Hotel de Ville and Musée des Beaux Arts particularly close. There are nice restaurants and bars in the surrounding streets too. The hotel itself is also a jazz bar/restaurant which looked great but was unfortunately closed while we were there. We stayed in room number 14, for 3 people, which was great value and very spacious - a huge bathroom with a lovely shower and even our own personal porch area! The staff were extremely friendly and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Would thoroughly recommend this hotel, to anyone looking for a pit stop hotel in a beautiful city! We were welcomed by friendly staff who were very happy to help! Fantastic location, walking distance to Place Bellecour, the fine arts museum and a handful of other sites! We had a triple room with an en suite and even had our own personal outside space! Bathroom and room, both modern and clean. All in all a hotel which is well worth a visit!

The hotel is very well located in the old city, walking distance to most sights, & easily accessible by public transport to others. The room was clean. Our room looked across the road to the Church, which was a really interesting & different view to have.
The bathroom was quite small, & the shower very small- almost unmanageably small! They could do with putting a shelf in the shower space to put gels & shampoos on to help make it less awkward to use. The room was definitely well heated; in fact we had to open the window it was so warm. However that is far preferable to being freezing cold!
Cedric was lovely; very helpful & friendly. The bar downstairs is so cosy & wonderful. It is obviously a real locals haunt, with excellent hot chocolate & good red wine served up with a side of wonderfully tasty cured meat.
My main frustration was the noise in the morning, from the daily garbage collection, & the trucks & cars, from quite early in the morning. Our room was over the street, so even with the window closed the noise was still audible.
