“Old Lyon”
Reviewed 18 August 2013

We stayed here for a couple of nights in July. We have stayed in Lyons several times now and this is our second favourite hotel as far as rooms go. (Villa Florentine is favourite because of pool and view although think the food is better here.) It is right in the centre of the old town in a picturesque building Our room was fine, staff helpful and polite. We ate in the gastronomic restaurant one night which was good but we prefer the Epicerie which is the bistro. We ate here twice, outside in the courtyard, great food, fabulous choice of wine, good atmosphere, service etc. Only drawback with hotel is the car park is some distance away so if you keep forgetting things and leaving them in car it can be a nuisance. However, this is what you have to put up with if you select a hotel in the old town where space is restricted.

We want to thank you for your review. We are glad you liked le Café Epicerie that offers only fresh products exquisitely cooked by our chef Anthony Bonnet and his staff who manage to delight our clients from both Café Epicerie and the gastronomic restaurant.
As you told, the narrow streets of the old town don't allow us to park our clients cars front of the hotel but we make our best to offer you the best service as you are able to tell us the approximate time you want our bellboy to bring your car to the door.
We look forward to seeing you again in our hotel.

Really lovely hotel tucked away in a great location, however I do think it was a little expensive for what you got.
The rooms were ok, but failed on a few things such as very dated (as in from the 80's) TV, bathroom fittings and fixtures. There wasn't any tea or coffee in the room either.
What it did do well in was the breakfast! Although in Lyon the food tends to be good in most places!! You have a selection of cheese wheels, charcuterie, pastries, coffees, fresh juices... I know it all sounds pretty standard, but it was definitely above average in taste.
The staff are also very helpful and friendly, however there was some strange charge when we checked out, which I didn't quite understand... something to do with local something, per person, per day? Anyway... we only stayed 2 nights which amounted to 6 euros... but would have been more annoying if we stayed longer.
Overall.. was ok, but would probably stay elsewhere next time.

Room Tip: The garden rooms didn't look very private, as anyone could wonder past or sit in front of your r...

We are glad you appreciated our breakfast buffet so much with all it's quality products, especially our "juice of the day" which is made out of fruits and vegetables mixed all together and chosen according to our truck farmer delivery.
The rooms facilities are indeed put in an old setting as the hotel was built in a 400 years old building; nonetheless they are modern as they were all changed in 2011.
Regarding the six euros you were charged for, it is the tourist tax that is collected in all the French towns in accordance to the hotel category. In a five stars hotel in Lyon, the tax comes to 1,50 euros per night and per person.
We would be glad to welcome you anytime soon and to suggest you a room that will fit perfectly your expectations.

Lyon is known as the capital of good food. As we were there in mid summer with high temperatures we want a light tasteful dish in the evening. The bistrot of the 5 star hotel offers you in the centre of le vieux Lyon a fine light meal, coming from the same kitchen as its gastronomic restaurant. More to our taste then the classic, but rather heavy meals of the buchons.

We spent 4 nights in this hotel in a fantastic location in Vieux Lyon. However, my review is uneven at best. The hotel clearly has a ventilation problem. We stayed in two different rooms in the hotel, and had a challenge getting sufficient air flow, and the temperature guage in both rooms did not work. We were there in the summer, and the room was too hot. The hotel is located in a part of town with many restaurants just outside the front door. Unfortunately, there was traffic at 6 to 7 am on several days from trash trucks or deliveries being made in the streets outside our room- impossible to rest. The hotel is very quaint, nice to take photos of- BUT the doors squeak, the floor boards squeak, there was to little closet space in 1 of our rooms. All of this was nearly offset by the staff which was exceptional, especially the two concierge we worked with who were very helpful. But for the price of this hotel (premium price), I would prefer more comfort and quiet. I would prefer to stay on the Prequ'ile in Lyon if I come to the city again (and I did love Lyon)

Room Tip: If you are going to stay in the hotel, try not to stay in the annex (separate tower). This seems to...

We are sorry the room was not enough ventilated. It is true that the very high temperatures came upon us and we are not used to such heat. The hotel is built in a really old building so the facilities and the unique configuration of the hotel does not allow us to be as responsive as we 'd like to be. However we managed to fix most of the ventilation issues and we truely hope you let us another chance to prove you that Cour Des Loges is a fresh and quiet hotel most of the time. The concierges do appreciate your review and would be glad to help you out with your next exploration of Lyon.

We'll remember Lyon as a very lively city, particularly the 'Vieux Lyon' and the Cour des Loges. We had a charming mezzanine room with every facility you can imagine. The staff, particularly the concierge were very helpful, whatever was your question, you got the response. We will surely return to Lyon and to the Cour des Loges.

My wife and I spent two nights here on the way through Lyon - my wife had remembered it from her time as a student when the traboules through the hotel were open to the public - this has changed now, it's only accessible to guests of the hotel, restaurant or bar. But what a place, built around four 'cours' or courtyards/spaces in the old town of Lyon and the adjoining passageways the hotel is full of old design charm. An unique space. The rooms were comfortable and design fitted in with the hotel and very, very quiet. Nice little gym too, though the swim machine could've set to last longer than 2min...

Most praise should go to the concierge staff, however. Unfailingly helpful and enthusiastic whether on the desk or parking our car, they made a superb impression, e.g., I had my bike with me the day before the Tour came through so got given a route of where they were going to be riding. Their suggestions for restaurants were excellent, whether from the concierge desk or from the man parking the cars (the cafe just left out of the front doors and opposite the mairie does a great salad lyonnaise and rosé).

Would definitely stay here next time we're in Lyon.

To celebrate our first year anniversary, my wife and I decided to venture to Lyon and experience holidaying in a French city other than Paris, which tends to get flocked and congested by tourists, especially in the summer. Many questioned our choice of Lyon, but after spending a few days in this beautiful French city and especially in this hotel, this has been by far one of the best holidays we've ever been on.

This hotel is located in the old part of Lyon, that is beautifully preserved and protected via its status as a UNESCO Heritage site. If you want to experience the grandness of Lyon and its rich history, a stay in this hotel is a must. Not only does it allow you to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with its top-class service by the concierge and front desk but also its many amenities which include the elaborate breakfast, the calming and rejuvenating spas, hammam and saunas. On top of this, the rooms are so comfortable, that it was a struggle each morning for us to get out of bed and start our day.

A big thank you to the concierge and staff for making each and every moment of our stay comfortable, romantic, unique and most importantly enjoyable. I recommend anyone interested in exploring the true character and hospitality of fine French hotels to make a booking with this hotel and visiting this city. I can guarantee you and your significant other would not be disappointed.

Room Tip: To really enjoy all that this hotel can provide, make sure you go for a superior or suite. The price...

We are so glad that the whole team of Cour Des Loges contributed to make your first anniversary never be forgotten even though we all know that true love would make a hut, a palace. Nonetheless, we do our best to make every single stay unforgettable even when our clients come for five days with a ten hours meeting on a daily basis.
This is really pleasant that clients like you, let us know why and how much they loved our hotel and Lyon.
We'll reserve you a special welcome for your second anniversary and the following ones.
