A converted monastery enclosing the cloisters to form the central atrium of the hotel - fantastic architecture, superb luxury and service to exceed all expectations.

Cour des Loges is a wonderful way to experience Lyon. The hotel from the 14th, 15th, 16th century takes into account the old world heritage of the city but modernize it with contemporary furnishings and decor. The service from checking-in to checking out was incredible. If you stay at this hotel you will be impressed with the friendly, helpful conceirge service. Gerard leads the desk and knows the city like no one else and goes out of his way to give you options and itineraries to suit your budget, needs, interets. Never making you feeling rushed and always taking time. He highlights the map in different colors outlining all your different options. You wish you could take him home with you to organize your 'real' life. The spa is a nice treat after you have been out an an about exploring the city. A great way to unwind and relax before getting ready to indulge in some more of lyon's fantastic food.
The biggest drawback was the actual room. It was plenty spacious and clean but the set-up was a bit odd making it hard to get ready as it was split across 3 floors. There was not a lot of space for your actual stuff in the bathroom, which was an open room. Lastly, the lighting was a bit too dull in the bathroom and dressing area making it tough to get ready.
Overall, I would recommend the hotel for it's specialness.

Be very careful if you book at this hotel. In December of 2008 , through our travel agent, we reserved a room for one night at Cour des Loges for July 26, 2009. The hotel required cancellation "two days prior to arrival by written notice." In January 2009 our plans changed and we asked our travel agent to cancel the reservation. Our agent e-mailed Cour des Loges on January 9, 2009 and confirmed to us that the reservation had been cancelled.

Imagine our shock when we received our July 2009 credit card bill and found a "no-show" charge from Cour des Loges for the full amount of the July 26 stay that had been cancelled in writing in January! We contested the charge with our credit card company, and luckily both we and our travel agent had written records to prove the cancellation. After two months of investigation, the credit card company resolved the dispute in our favor and disallowed the hotel's attempt to charge us. Cour des Loges claimed it had "lost" the cancellation.

We would strongly warn anyone considering staying at Cour des Loges to keep written copies of everything and check your credit card for inappropriate charges.

This is a stale, over rated and over priced hotel, not worth even half the excessive cost. A most unpleasant experience.

Low light levels and dark paintwork conceal dirt everywhere. Philippe Starck's impractical choice of grey plastic for the wash basins and baths doesn't make it easy for the cleaners do their work. So they don't.

The manager obviously doesn't test each room by sleeping in it - rule No 1 of hotel management - so the problems are never spotted and corrected. Such careless neglect builds up.

The group who own the hotel seem only interested in the profits generated by their investment many years ago. Once in the guidebooks, why bother?

Some of the staff try their best, but they can't correct the underlying problem - greedy owners, lazy managers, and customers who seem happy to accept a complete rip off.

We stayed for only one night in this hotel travelling from Swiss to Lyon and going back the second day. Staff were friendly enough but if you are driving your car to this hotel you got to watch out even if you are using a navigator. The access to this hotel is really awful! bathroom and toilets were little trouble unless you are that person who does not give attention to your privacy in that. The concierge there are really helpful and were really cool.

Stayed for 5 nights in room 36. Loved the superbly professional staff, the splendid breakfast buffet served until a very civilised 11am and the virtually private garden (accessed from our room). Less keen on the price of wine in the brassiere (7 euros for my one and only 125ml glass of house rose) but I suppose it was an optional extra. In truth (and in capitals) A FAULTLESS HOTEL EXPERIENCE and unusually, well worth the money (except the wine obviously).

My partner and I stayed for two nights at the Cour des Loges hotel, situated in the medieval section of Lyon (Vieux Lyon) in May 2009. We booked through Booking.com at EUR316 per night.

The location of the hotel is in the middle of Vieux Lyon, and within walking distance to the Prequ'Ile sector. Vieux Lyon is beautiful, very medieval and noted for the famous "traboules", which are distinctive interior courtyards interconnected throughout the neighborhood that are open to the public although belonging to private apartment complexes contained in original medieval buildings. Vieux Lyon is, unfortunately, a bit too touristy. Less touristy and certainly "newer" (1800s architecture) is the Presqu'Ile sector, which lies about 10 minutes away by foot and which is reminiscent of St Germain des Pres in Paris. Presq'ile features better restaurants and shops, and retains a more "elegant" appearance; Vieux Lyon, however, is a medieval jewel.

The hotel itself is nice and charming. The decor is appropriate, although showing a bit of age and "design" influences of the mid 90s. Our room (53) was an upgraded deluxe corner room, in the older section of the hotel, very spacious, but very dark due to the extensive use of dark colors used in the decor, and the poor lighting. We had a very nice windows overlooking Place de Petit College on one side, and on the other, direct view of the neighbors, which posed some privacy issues. The bed was very large and comfortable. The room was equipped with A/C, but it seemed to barely work. It kept the room cool enough, but probably could have been cooler.

The bathroom was average, with the exception that the toilet was situated inside the shower area -- something completely odd and impractical.

Service was gracious; the breakfast buffet was excellent. We parked our car via the valet. We were given an access code to enter the pedestrian area of Vieux Lyon where the hotel is located; from there, the valet would take the car away to a garage.

Lyon is a nice place to visit. It is famous for its gastornomy -- this is where Paul Bocuse comes from, and this is also the site of the revered La Halle food market. We found the food to be good and classic, but not innovative enough to return. We feel there are more exciting gastronomical experiences elsewhere, especially in Northern Spain, London, Belgium and even Germany -- and abroad in places like Bangkok, Tokyo, Cape Town, Hong Kong, Lima, New York, Mexico City, etc.
