A beautiful, charming hotel, in a unique historic building. Cour des Loges is situated in a restored monastery in the old part of Lyon, full of medieval French charm. We had a superior room, spacious, well appointed and with real character - timbered ceilings, beautiful decor, full of character, particularly when compared to the bland luxury of many modern five star chains. Good breakfasts, friendly and knowledgeable staff. The hotel is well located for most of the major tourist attractions.

On holidays in France, we had the opportunity to stay in this beautiful hotel.
I'm very familiar with high class hotels and there is no doubt that this one is a must !!!... It really does deserve a 4 or even 5 stars ranking.
A special "plus" for the service which was "high class" French style.... I love it.

One of the loveliest historical hotels in which I have ever stayed: Service (concierge superb); Cleaning staff never seen but everything was spotless, neat and tidy; Location is the best in is this wonderful city; Value seemed high at first but not after the first night and first breakfast; Room was most spacious with comfortable beds, however, taking a shower was a bit of a problem -- shower head was not high enough to wash under and holding in hand made soaping, etc., cumbersome, tub was huge; Lighting was not as good as it should have been which made reading a strain on the eyes. The biggest complaint I have is that on entering the hotel, which is lovely, you see a tall, glorious white flower arrangement only to find as you get closer that they were not real flowers -- some fabric, some plastic. Other plants were also not real. Wish instead, if flowers are too much to keep looking good, just a great easy-to-care-for green real plant would suffice.

Otherwise this is such an interesting, historical place to spend a few days while in Lyon. And, if you do not stay at this hotel, you'll be missing a great deal of what is the real Lyon and the real France. It is one of the few cities where you actually see and deal with French folks -- lots of families with young children live in the old section of town where the hotel is located and everyone is cheerful and most helpful. Don't find many American tourists in Lyon but I'm sure once word gets around, they'll be there in abundance.

don't even consider, hot as hell,a/c a joke, even with extra fan , and they shut it off the minute you leave room or fall asleep, even after being advised not to do so , old formica hot pink walls, bathroom and shower no way near clean, needless to say not worth the money.

We are very surprised to hear this guest comment which is the first contribution and we are not able to find out when he stayed at the hotel!
We do not have any records of customers coming from Florida in july.
We are even more surprised to learn that among hundred of comments about our hotel, it is the very first time a guest, who is supposed to have come, speaks about a "horrible decor".
We shall not even mention the fact that we stop the air conditioning while the client is asleep!!

Cour de Loges is in the old city centre of Lyon, a district dating back over 800 years. It is an area of small restaurants called buchons (corks) and pubs including at least three Irish pubs and one, er, gentlemen’s club. The hotel is four 800 year old houses grouped together by a glass roof over what was the common courtyard. The old town is vehicle restricted and to enter with your car requires a password to lower a concrete barrier inbedded in the roadway. Once in you follow the narrow cobblestone maze to the hotel. The 4 star hotel has a full service spa and pool that I didn’t see. The lobby hosts a restaurant and bar and a grill house restaurant is adjacent. The room is a walk back in time. It had a high wooden beamed ceiling, comfortable double bed, opening window (no view) hair dryer, room safe, AC, free wifi, complicated light switch system and flat screen TV. The centrepiece was a large raised bathtub with rain shower in the centre of the room. It took some thinking to decipher how the multi taps worked. This very different hotel is one you will enjoy and never forget.

We staed twice at the hotel, the second one being a free stay due to an incident we had at check out the first time, which clearly made up for any inconvinience caused. The hotel is a unique complex of 15th-16th century buildings around a magnificent enclosed courtyard-atrium, in the heart of the Vieux Lyon. We stayd both times in their appartements, which were excellent, and decorated with taste, with a modern flair added to them, something nice considering that most hotels in such building tend to be old fashioned. The bathroom was as big as the room, and was equiped with all the facilities someone might need. The only negative about the rooms might be that hot water on high floors may take a minute to arrive, but that is normal considering the age of the property. Having seen a superior room as well as a junior suite, they were as well tastefully decorated, spacious, with ample space at the bathrooms as well.
The service in most of the times is extremely efficient and kind. We had breakfast, which on the first time was excellent, while the second one was just nice, not the variety of a mega hotel, but some of the best quality we ever had at hotel breakast.
Overall we think that everyone who wants to have a unique experience of a renaissance complex should stay at this hotel, in the beautiful city of Lyon.

As a historian, I just had to stay at this hotel created from 4 buildings centuries old. The buildings are truly amazing! But there is a price to pay for staying at a hotel that isn't built for the purpose. Our room had the hotel's garden and terrace outside our main windows and there were passageways outside others, including the bathroom. So we had to close our shades and drapes to get any privacy. The windows were extraordinarily hard to open and close, but we had to keep them shut when not in the room or anyone could have climbed in.

The major problem, though, was that the plumbing was defective, surprising since the buildings had been made into a hotel only 22 years ago. The bathroom had 2 slow drains, the spray in the tub ran either hot or cold, the bidet had no water in it, and the toilet room smelled of sewers -- because the bidet had lost its water seal?

The bed was extremely comfortable, we could comfortably use our laptop, and the decor was very nice, a mix of old and modern well done. The laundry was good.

We were subjected to a very loud party in the lobby one evening, but that ended by 10. However, since the main restaurant is in the lobby, it meant it was closed. But we loved the cafe, which we ate at 3 of the 4 nights we were there. After a lot of scouting around, we concluded it was by far the best restaurant in the area. Simple food, such as cod with mashed potatoes, tuna with sesame, all superbly done! The breakfast was very expensive and I didn't really think it worth the price.

The service was generally good but spotty. One concierge made my stay by giving me so much information both on the history of the hotel and the area. Another brusquely told me to see a receptionist for a service that the concierges had hitherto performed. Service and what we were given in the cafe varied by evening. It was rather an impersonal hotel. And because of the lack of privacy we found it hard to truly relax.

So why am I giving it four stars? Because it's a rare opportunity, especially for an American, to stay in a buildings centuries old and in the oldest quarter of Lyon. Wonderful to wander around. So do go if you like historic hotels and are willing to put up with the quirks!
