Location is the only thing the Grand Hotel Boscolo has going for it. Rarely does a hotel really let me down as much as this one.

The hotel itself is really dated and seriously needs an overhaul.

Call it what you want old world charm, heritage, vintage. The grand hotel is not a good kind of charming, heritage... vintage and so on. It's just old. The grand hotel boscolo fits that old saying "putting icing on a turd" to a tee.

Room security is so poor. This hotel still gives you a skeleton key for a room key attached to 12 inch keychain. PLEASE SEE PICTURES OF ROOM KEY. Considering international clientele would stay here with stuff like passports etc. in their room you would think and electronic door lock would be standard. At the Grand Hotel security is a skeleton key with a lock that could be picked with a toothpick. The door is also so old a good ole kick would get it open.

The room itself was large but soooo old. Seriously the room was musty and smelt of the 1800's. I think i could still smell Louis the VII's feet.

The sofa in the room was so old it had a slip cover and the chairs had towels on them so you wouldn't dirty your pants sitting on them. Gross.

The bed was like plywood with a sheet on it. It was honestly that hard.

The bathroom was redone in marble in recent times. When you would shower a huge puddle of water would go on the floor and seep down a crack i'm assuming in to the room below. I posted pictures of the hole and the marble coming off because so much water damage had occured over time.

Staff was good... i guess they only work at the grand hotel. They are not the one's that should be making the investment to fix it.

Honestly the best part of this hotel was seeing it in my rearview mirror.

Room Tip: You can get a great room by going to a different hotel.

This hotel is quite centrally located, but this is true of many other hotels, as the centre of Lyon is quite small. The rooms are frayed at the edges. There is no restaurant at this hotel. There is no electric outlet at the desk area to plug in the computer unless you unplug the table lamp, the refrigerator or the TV. Reception cannot supply an adaptor. They do not have umbrellas for loan either. Internet connection (included in the room price) is not so reliable. There is a young man with glasses at the Reception who is exceptional in his service, efficient, friendly and with a good memory. For 150 € per night, there are much better alternatives in Lyon.

Problem settled. After multiple emails, the management finally agreed to allow an extra bed with a very high supplementary charge. The only thing the hotel has going for it is location. Definitely a property in need of an overhaul. The air-conditioning in the rooms were practically non-existent! We travelled in summer so it was horrible. The staff was however helpful and tried to change the room for us but the other rooms they showed us were no better. : ( Maybe if it wasn't summer it might have been more bearable.

We are 4 friends who visited Lyon for a 3 night break.

First the not so good. The 2 bedrooms that we had were in need of re-decoration, had paint peeling off walls, 1 window cracked, very dated in appearance, mirror only in bathroom none in bedroom and no restaurant. Now the good, the rooms were very very clean, fantastic maid service every day, very friendly and helpful staff, breakfast was ok. We did not pay a lot of money for the hotel as booked online, therefore we had great value for the price we paid.

We were delighted that this hotel was so central to everything, for example shops, restaurants, rivers, old town.

Although there were some faults with the hotel and it is our opinion that it should be 3* rather than 4*, due to the friendly staff, high standard of cleanliness and location, we would have no hesitation in returning if back in Lyon, would also recommend to others. We would suggest that this hotel is booked online, as there are some great deals/offers available.

It is nice to have some space in a hotel room in Europe. The hotel had old fashioned sized rooms, huge windows (that could open) and high ceilings. The breakfast was plenty and the fruit fresh. The service was friendly...

A very central hotel on the island. Heaps of restaurants around.

If you didn't fancy walking, then Lyon has a great transportation system - so don't bring your car!

We stayed at the Boscolo Grand for one night in summer 2011 on our way to Provence.

I did book very late, but upon booking I was assured by a person in the hotel that we would get adjoining rooms for our 2 children. When we checked in, the rooms were on the opposite sides of the corridor. The infrastructire at the hotel seems quite old and all the doors are really flimsy with old fashioned locks, so there was no way we were going to put the children in a room on their own, when anyone could knock in the door without even trying.

The hotel does not have its own restaurant, so we asked a very helpful person in the reception to recommend us one nearby. He did a good job in selling us the restaurant, but it was a shame the restaurant didn't live up to his sales pitch (wasn't his fault though).

The breakfast at the hotel is distinctly average and unmemorable, except for the coffee, which was dreadful (both from the pot and the cappuchino which you need to order extra from the staff).

Altogether the hotel was a bit of a disappointment; apart from the lobby, it really isn't grand and everything is a bit old and run down.

Clean, convenient location near old town . Breakfast had good variety, cereals , some hot food etc. Helpful staff. AC was a bit dodgy in two of the rooms. Wi Fi was free.
