“Great in every aspect”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2012

Situated in a charming little square (Place des Celestines) and in walking distance from Place Bellecourt and the Old City (both are 5 minutes by foot away), this excellent Hotel was all that I could have asked for. Nice rooms (arent you fed up when the bed takes over the whole bedroom? well, that's not the case), big bath (and with a huge bathtub!), clean and with a very helpful staff. I will definitely stay there again, next time I visit Lyon.

The hotel was well located, in a quiet square but within walking distance of all the main attractions. There is also a rent a bike stand right outside the hotel. The hotel itself was beautiful and clean. Couldn't help but touch the suede walls! The hotel staff were amazing. One lady in particular, I didn't get her name. Shoulder length brown hair, bubbly and very helpful. I highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel was very well located. The wifi connection was inaccessible from the rooms but ok in reception albeit very slow. The floorboards were very squeaky and broken under the carpet but the rooms are clean and relatively spacious it is worth a visit

We live in the UK and have 2 daughter living in Paris and 1 in Barcelona.
We regularly drive to Paris and then on to Barcelona and always stop overnight in Lyon at the Hotel des Artistes.
Not only is it an excellent hotel but it's location in the Place des Celestins is perfect for us as it is only minutes from the Autoroute coming from both Paris and Barcelona. In addition the underground car park in the Square is the best in the world where you will always find the first available space.
We have been using the Hotel des Artistes for some 15 years which is a recommendation in itself. We also used it to accommodate UK guests when our youngest daughter was married near Lyon.
The hotel is family run and is very welcoming. The accommodation is excellent particularly sine the recent comprehensive refurbishment. The staff are friendly and helpful and immediately responsive both on site and via e-mail and telephone.
Highly recommended. We hope to be using it for another 15 years.

I took a group of eight travel clients to France for two weeks and they began their trip in Lyon. My comments about rooms are strictly about the slightly more-expensive and larger classic rooms, and not about the cheaper, smaller, standard rooms (which I believe some of the reviewers have had, based on their comments). The simply-conceived rooms are not going to excite design fanatics, but the classic rooms are extremely comfortable and really quite large for France. (We routinely had eight to ten people lounging around on the bed, chairs and floor to enjoy a glass of wine.) The classic bathrooms are also huge. The classic rooms we occupied all faced the theater; some had a small balcony and all had nice, large, soundproofed windows. Breakfast is a nice spread, with the typical cured meats, boiled eggs, viennoiseries (mini-croissants and mini-pains au chocolat), breads, cheeses, cereal, yogurt, etc. I was especially happy to have President butter on my bread every morning. The clincher for me was the dedicated and unselfish service provided by all the members of the front desk staff. From start to finish, they could not have been friendlier or more helpful when any of my clients had a question or request. The location is outstanding, with many restaurants and major sights (Vieux Lyon and the Textile Museum, for example) within walking distance. Brasserie Francotte is practically next door and is a dependably good spot for dinner. Also of interest to some guests will be the market set up almost every morning on the banks of the Saône river, a few hundred feet from the hotel. There you can find all sorts of food and treats if you fancy a picnic lunch or snacky dinner on a budget. On Mondays, you will find a clothing and textile market there.

Room Tip: Spend the extra money for a classic room that faces the theater.

Was not really expecting much from this 3 star hotel, however our room was not properly cleaned and the rubbish not emptied. There was a disgusting smell coming from the toilet and the pipes were leaking water over the floor. Shower was dirty and rusty. Had a lovely view outside to an overflowing rubbish bin in the alley way. The double bed in the room was extremely tiny i thought it could past for a king single. Lucky we were only staying 2 nights. As a strength, the staff were multi lingual, spoke english well and were friendly so that was nice. The breakfast was good value. Probably not good stop for a honeymoon as we discovered. The rates were also quite expensive.

We had a great time staying Hotel des Artistes. Nice decor; modern, minimalist and not overly fussy. Checking in and out took seconds and the reception were very helpful in finding us a restaurant for dinner on a busy Saturday night. Room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. No view out the window except to a concrete wall and no coffee maker in the room but that was all. Pretty good price of 109 euros and very centrally located so you can walk everywhere. Underground parking is literally right in front of the hotel but was super expensive.
