“Nice, clean hotel at the heart of the city”
Reviewed 16 November 2013

We stayed there for 3 nights with a family of six. Good sized rooms overlooking the city square. Lobby and reception are functional, more like business hotel. Staffs are friendly. The area is not so safe, as when we arrive and we are busy unloading the car with a bunch of luggages and 4 kids, somebody open our car door that was parked in front of the lobby and steal a backpack from the car seat. Luckily my wife saw it and scream, he run away leaving the bag behind.

The staffs at the hotel are quite shock with this incident. Luckily nothing taken. Other than that, the stay are quite peaceful...

A good location in a very nice city. Hotel is a little functional or business-like, but quite clean. Staff generally efficient, though we had one or two issues at the front desk with arranging airport transfers. Hotel bar on top floor is attractive, though prices are eye watering. Ground floor bar pretty pricey as well, even for Lyon. But room service value OK. Hotel Brasserie not too bad and decent service, though there are lots of good restaurants within a short walk

Stayed there last September with my partner. the lobby and reception area is not as grand as other sofitel hotels ive been to and the ceiling is kinda low. there was construction in the entrance when we stayed but it didnt bother us at all. Check in was quick and the receptionist spoke english well. we were assigned a room in the 1st floor, directly above the hotel sign and lights. i didnt know it would be a problem until evening when i saw some bugs on our bed. These are the type of bugs you usually see flying around bright lights during the night. the room was adequate and clean. the thing i loved the most is the bathroom. it was huge and had a nice big shower though we didnt have a bath tub. mini bar was complimentary and was well stocked as well as the nespresso machine. breakfast was ok, a lil pricey but the bread and pastries were awesome. the menu didnt change at all in our stay though but the beautiful thing about the restaurant , which was located on the upper floor, was the nice view of the city it provided while you were eating your breakfast. the restaurant staff were not very attentive but its typical in any french hotel. there are lot of cheaper restaurants outside though if you dont want to spend much on a simple breakfast. room service didnt have a lot to offer too and the quality of the food wasnt great. we had some foie gras, burger with fries and club sandwich. the club sandwich bread was too hard, i think it was overcooked, same goes for the fries, except for one french fry which was not cooked at all. also, the main entrance revolving door is being locked in the evening so we had to knock and get the receptionist's attention so that we can go in. upon check out, i didnt have smaller bills and didnt want to use my card as they already pre authorized a huge amount on there. i only had 500 euro bills on me. I know it's difficult to break in europe but they should at least have the courtesy to look for change. they didn't and just handed it back to me like i had no choice but to look for a smaller bill myself. good thing my partner had some change to pay for the incidentals we incurred during out stay. overall, it was an okay hotel, not as luxurious for a sofitel. stay there if you want to be in a nice location, walking distance from restaurants and some sites.

Room Tip: Go for upper rooms facing the river. stay away from rooms above the hotel lights as there are a lot...

I spent one night in a room with mini-bar included. The Espresso machine of the room did not work so in the last minute I had to change my plans and went for breakfast to the hotel restaurant in order to get only a cup of coffee. Surprisingly I had to ask 3 different waiters for a cup of coffee, which never arrived after 30 minutes waiting! All of them answered "Yes sir, it will come now" but I was seeing how they were giving it to other guests but not me! In the end I left disgusted and had to start my day without a cup of coffee in a "Luxus" hotel.

Room Tip: If you want an Espresso machine in the room, check that it works when you enter and notify otherwise...

We stopped over for only 1 night whilst travelling through France on our way to Annecy and had no expectations at all other than a decent room, bed, bathroom and secure parking in the center of Lyon. Well we were blown away and the hotel far exceeded any of our expectations! The hotel may not be much of a looker on the outside as it's a fairly hideous 1970's square building, but it's undergoing a huge internal refurb and it's stunning inside. The meet & greet, valet & check-in were all flawlessly done with the utmost professionalism and friendliness, a huge and welcome surprise after our experience the previous night in Troyes! The bedroom (number 122) was new, fresh, with a very comfortable super king bed and all modern mod-cons such as a Nespresso machine, iPod speaker and free WiFi. the bathroom is also very large and nice, though from a ladies perspective it could do with some brighter lights. The breakfast the next morning was served in their rooftop restaurant with panoramic views over Lyon and the river, in fact it would be the perfect place fro a lovely lunch or romantic dinner as well. The copious breakfast was every gastronome's dream with lots of local delicacies on offer.
We also fell in love Le Vieux Lyon and are already planning our next return to this grande dame of a city!

Room Tip: We were on the first floor, and though it's on a very busy avenue near a traffic intersection, t...
