Spacious room.
Interesting, original, restaurant menu
Great breakfast.

Well situated for exploring old and new Lyon.

It's a very nice Novotel with a great restaurant.

The moans?

Well parking is hassle and chargeable. You travel a long way in an underground car park passing through two automatic doors.

There are concrete pillars everywhere! I bashed my car trying to avoid a different one.

The basement car park is incredibly hot, trolleys requiring a 1 Euro deposit are not around in great numbers, there are four narrow doors with extremely strong springs to get through, plus a lift, just to get to Reception! So by the time i got into a separate lift to take our luggage upstairs, went all the way down through the doors and lifts to take the trolley back and retrieve my 1 Euro, then went all the way back to my room, I was somewhat sticky and whacked to say the least! I'm glad we stayed two nights so I didn't have to do all that in reverse the following day!

The lift notice states you should be adequately dressed around the hotel i.e. not in swimming attire because you have to go through the restaurant to get to the smallish pool. But annoyingly, there's no changing area down there.

On the plus side:

The staff were friendly but the atmosphere wasn't quite as good as the other Novotels we stayed at.

The food was good and so was our room.

Also, the tramway system is very near the hotel for a convenient ride into the city.

The hotel looks and is clean and fresh. But I think it could have been designed with wider, luggage / trolley friendly doors without such strong springs. And maybe without the pool door access being straight through the restaurant!

Cher Client,

Tres Cordialement

I chose this hotel because of our familiarity of the brand, and because of there excellent rate given for a three night stay in their website (heavily discounted). If you're familiar with the brand then this hotel gives you exactly what you're expecting.

The hotel is in the 7th Arrondisement of Lyon and is near he A7 motorway that passes through town. We were driving back from Provence and found this hotel with no difficulty at all. It has a secure car park, but it is €16.50 per night for the privelage. We left the car there for our entire stay so I don't know about in and out privelages. There is a tram line outside that takes you straight to Parraches station and La Part-Dieu shopping centre and station, but you'll need to change to get to be old town and presque-île.

The room is excellent and clean. The bed was extremely comfortable (it also has a sofa bed) and the bathroom was modern with everything you'll need? Exactly what you'd expect from Novotel.

The restaurant was ok, but it's a little overpriced for what's on offer. We had a club sandwich and chips for €14 each, which is a bit steep. There are much, much better deals in St Jean in the old town.

Breakfast is excellent with plenty of choice. I'd be even happier if it was a little more reasonably priced.

Overall, we'd stay in this hotel again if offered the same deal. It was being used by families while we were there so perfectly acceptable for holiday groups, but its primary audience is clearly businesses.

Very nice suite setup for 2 adults and kids 11 and 13, pull out couch comfortable enough for one night for the kids. Decided to order room service for dinner as restaurant was already booked for first seating and had a long drive from Bern. Spaghetti w pesto, al dente but bland, too much oil. Shrimp w mango, melon, feta and olive appetizer was ok, nothing exceptional. Hubby ordered steak, medium but came very rare. Asked to be re cooked but just brought a new one that was cooked well done in a microwave ( it was chewy and not edible). The kicker was that my hubby left something in the car and met our server at the elevator, on her way back to our room with the new order,She was helping herself to one of the fries from the uncovered tray she was delivering to our room. So, stay in the hotel but skip room service altogether. Probably better off buying sandwiches from a deli.

Room Tip: Hotel and city chosen for convenient stopover en route to our vacation destination in Toulouse..

Stayed here as part of the "modball" rally. Hotel coped really well with 300+ "modballers" in 150 cars desending on them at once, check in was very efficient considering how many of us arrived at the same time. Hotel manager was working really hard to help us all get parked and checked in quickly. And she also managed to get us all taxi's to our organised party venue later in the evening, she worked very hard that night! Thank you!

Room was fine, we came from a sister Novotel in Paris which was a lot fresher decor/carpets etc, but nothing to complain about. We drank at the bar and ate in the restaurant, service was a little slow but ok.... didn't use any of the other facilities.

The best thing about the Novotel Gerland is that it provides exactly what you would expect from this type of hotel. The bed is comfortable, the shower is good and the room is clean. On top of that the staff were all very pleasant and helpful, the wifi is free and the food edible. I should also mention that the breakfast was above average.
It is somewhat impersonal and I would try to avoid home football matches ( the hotel is very close to the Lyon stadium ) but as a good value base it is very good. It is also worth noting that a new tram line is now open into the town centre which is only 3 minutes walk away from the hotel.
