“Handy for Perrache Station.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2012

We stayed here for a couple of nights and booked mainly because of its closeness to the train station. The area was not great but was only a 5 minute walk from the main shopping areas and 10 mins from the old town.
The hotel is old and quite grand, it could do with a little updating in places.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
Beware ordering the breakfast to the room, it felt expensive @ 17.50 Euro per head for a cup of tea, yoghurt, kiwi fruit and a bag of pastry's.

Have stayed here a couple of times, it is a truly a "grand hotel" with art deco interiour from the beginning af the 20th century and old time deluxe rooms - updated and spotless clean. The location i.e. the surroundings are more dreadful as the hotel is situated just next to the new railway center - but on the orher hand: transportation to the rest of the city is not a problem! Absolutely to be recommended

This probably a hotel you will love or hate (maybe a little strong). We enjoyed our stay. We stayed in largest sized room just under a suite and it was very large, nice antique furniture and comfortable beds with a divided bath that was above average, all with 14 food ceilings and the largest crown molding I have ever seen. It had feel of a room in a nice old country chateaux. Some areas of hotel seem to have been brought back to life since our visit some 10 years ago. With a quick look into some of smaller rooms while maid was cleaning, it seems that satisfaction might depend on price paid. I would say that while our room was clean and comfortable the windows and doors could use some tender loving care. The breakfast was good if can get it in room rate, but if had to pay the appx $22.00 per person it costs, I would walk across the parking lot to train station and eat at one of nice little places there. Location is good, because of the tram, buses, and metro (subway) all that are about 100 yards away. The immediate area around hotel has little to offer as for restaurants or sights, but both are in various areas of city, no one hotel is going to have that perfect location, some just better than others.

Room Tip: Get the best room you can afford. Avoid the lest expensive rooms.

View from some rooms over railways, or huge parking with buses just in front, well not the most charming place from outside but convenient. Next to the transport; city center in walking distance.
Still it has certainly got atmosphere in the interior. Reception is stylish, for France unbelievably fast, breakfast excellent, rooms not the biggest, but manageable; little dark but comfortable

We selected this hotel on the basis of its central position (easily accessible whether you arrive in Lyon by train, bus, car or hire car) and a favourable sounding deal from one of the booking websites. It turned out to be a very good choice. It is a spacious large building, dating from around 1910. It is therefore very comfortable inside, and has the bonus of some good Art Nouveau decoration. The reception staff were all efficient, welcoming and helpful, as were the restaurant staff. Breakfast offered a wide range of dishes, and the evening menu was varied, well presented, excellently cooked and in line with prices elsewhere in the city. Our standard bedroom was comfortable and elegantly decorated, with a good sized, well equipped bathroom. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided - just the thing after a tiring day's sightseeing. The only minus point was the lack of a scenic view. The hotel is a former railway hotel, and is therefore right next to the railway (watch the TGVs go by). But subsequently, a complicated road interchange and a grotesque bus station plus multi-storey car park have been constructed. So the outlook is relentlessly urban. Having said that, the hotel was remarkably quiet despite all the activity around it.
