“Your typical chain hotel”
Reviewed 8 October 2012

This is you typical Mercure everything is scripted per chain standards.

A bit further away from touristy area, but a jump on the métro will bring you there in 10 mins.

Good rooms, quiet area. And a rarity, a parking garage with plenty of space.

Good chain hotel, reliable (comfortable if rather small room, good air-con). Pleasant and efficient staff. Perhaps not the best location to explore Lyon though (a few stops to the centre on the metro). Coffee at breakfast was pretty awful (again! Why do French hotels struggle so much to brew a decent cup of coffee??) and the hot food options were neither numerous nor great: room for improvement there. We have stayed there twice for an overnight pause and would do so again.

Located in suburban area of Lyon but not far away from the city is a peaceful place to stay. Just few minutes away from the train station makes it convenient to reach any place of interest in the city. Staff understands English and is polite and prompt. Rooms were dimly lit though but clean and comfortable, nearby restaurants make it even more suitable place to stay. Breakfast in the hotel may appear expensive but had many varieties and was tasty. Overall, a good place, not too expensive, comfortable and peaceful.

Only 4 metro stops to the city centre. Very quiet, you don't hear any noise from the next room or even from the street.
Breakfast is very very expensive, but you have tea and coffee in the room and there's a supermarket close to tho hotel.
The worst: from 22.30 pm there's no room service and the bar is closed.

We just came back from staying at the Mercure Lemaire. While perhaps not being in downtown Lyon, it was still in the city limits and very close to the metro station. We had a very quiet room, well furnished, it slept well and excellent AC. The front desk people no matter which shift were extremely friendly and helpful. We rented a car to drive to the Tour de France each day and were able to park on the street each night and forego the parking charge. Be sure and go to "old" section of Lyon for great meals and an atmosphere that surpassed many areas in Paris. There is a small grocery store just outside the hotel and 2 service stations within 50 yards. The history connection to the first film makers was very interesting and be sure and see a few of the original pieces used for film making. They are located just outside the restaurant. Our last day we payed for the breakfast buffet and unlike some French breakfasts, it contained a multitude of breakfast choices, [i.e. pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, 4 different juices, lots of different types of breads [as expected] and of course many croissants. If in Lyon again we would definitely stay here again.
