We stayed at this hotel on the night of 28/07. Greeted by a very professional young person at reception who then gave us good information to go out for dinner. No pressure whatsoever although the hotel has a restaurant as well. Room nice and clean, good size, pet friendly which is very good as we travel with our little dog. Bathroom not very big but shower works very well with very good water pressure. If you, like us, are heading to the south of France and been driving for a few hours from Calais then this is an ideal position. Also easy parking just outside the hotel. Would recommend or come back next time I'll do that itinerary. Book in advance to get great value for money.

I booked this hotel on the recommendations from fellow travelers here - generally, I agree - this hotel is convenient and for the price paid, not bad in France. But the one thing that was not obvious is that this hotel does not have AC in the rooms! For winter, I guess it is ok, since it has a heater, but for summer, that's another story!

Could have been a 4 star for the staff, cleanliness, room etc but the AC was a deal breaker for me - I am shortening my stay and moving elsewhere tomorrow!

BTW, there is a restaurant around the corner (turn right, 5 mins walk, cant miss) that serves typical Lyon-"ese" cooking - great little restaurant with friendly staff!

Room Tip: get a room facing away from the main street, especially in summer, as you will have to open the wind...

There are many reviews about this hotel which do sum up well what this hotel offers. Good location to the train station, fairly clean, and good price. What concerned me was the bed. While the mattress does indeed have a sheet over it there is no other sheet on the bed. That means that the blanket on the top is the only thing you have to cover yourself. Clearly this blanket or comforter is not cleaned every day, however, almost every other hotel I have ever stayed at has at least a clean sheet inbetween you and that ever present blanket. Not so at this hotel. Sorry friends, but that is just YUCK!! I slept with nothing covering me as God knows what was on that blanket. Beyond that I had no issue with anything at that hotel, but for me the bed situation was enough to make me say never again.

With the IBIS chain, you generally know what to expect irrespective of where the hotel is located and this one was no exception.

The IBIS Part Dieu is situated about half way between the Part Dieu railway station and the River Rhone, both being within 10 minutes easy walking distance. The large Part Dieu Shopping Centre is nearby as are trams and buses that will take you to the main shopping and tourist areas in . In all cases make sure you validate you ticket on boarding.

As we had booked and paid in advance (to get the best deals!), check in was swift and efficient. Guests are given two ‘card keys’, one which operates the lift and the other the room door. The lift key ensures that no non residents can access the upper floors of the hotel and while a good safety feature, it must be stressed that we walked everywhere to and from the hotel and did not feel uneasy at any time.

Our room, on the sixth floor, appeared smaller than other IBIS hotels we have stayed at but was to the latest IBIS group refurbished standard. The room was clean, the décor functional and the bed comfortable. The shower room / toilet was equally compact but served its purpose. There was no individual room air conditioning though we did note cool air coming from vents on one wall, so there might be a centralised system. Unfortunately, with unseasonably hot temperatures this did not stop our room from becoming uncomfortably stuffy during the night. We did try opening the window but traffic noise from early morning (05.00) was sufficient to waken us.

Breakfast is typically IBIS with a selection of cereals, breads, pastries, meats, cheese etc. available on a self service basis. The Breakfast Room is also the hotel restaurant and although we did not eat in the hotel, prices looked fairly standard for the area.

Down side? Housekeeping service could be better. Toilet supplies weren’t replenished when they obviously should have been - you shouldn’t really run out of loo roll for example! This was however a minor issue during an otherwise pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Traffic noise can be an issue with the windows open - a room to the back should be much quieter.
