“Perfect apartment in a beautiful city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2012

This is an absolutely beautiful b&b in a stunning apartment in Lyon. We stayed for 3 nights and we could not have picked a more perfect place to stay. Everything about this place is so welcoming, at times we felt as though we were home. Christine the owner was so lovely and helpful, she really went out of her way to assist us with places to eat, things to do etc. Her breakfast each morning was beautiful with fresh juices, breads, jams, cheeses and sweets. We felt so pampered!!
The bed was really comfortable and the bathroom a really good size. Everything was spotless.
We were able to park our car in the next street and there was even a lift in the building which is unusual for France.
This b&b made our trip to Lyon one of the most memorable of our trip.

We spent two nights in this beautiful apartment. We second all of the accolades from other reviewers. The bed is comfortable and the bathroom is very well appointed. The location is excellent -- two blocks from the Place Bellecour. You can easily walk to Vieux Lyon if you so choose. The hosts are delightful, and will converse entirely in English if your French, like ours, is deficient. And the price for all of this is excellent. I saved breakfast for last. You are served in a lovely dining room, with fresh flowers and beautiful linens adorning the table. The foods are all wonderful (we are fromage-crazy, so we especially enjoyed the assortment of cheese). Very, very pleasant. By the way, if you love French food, do not miss Les Halles de Paul Bocuse in the Part Dieu section of town.

Room Tip: There is only one room for rent at this address -- book early!

I run out of superlatives to use for this place; chic, beautiful, stylish, central, spotless.

Firstly the location-absolutely spot on-on one of the main streets in Lyon so everything is walkable-you are in the heart of things. this does mean there can be street noise at night, but the windows must have quadruple glazing, as when they are shut, you cannot hear a thing.
The room-so beautiful; linen which smells of lavender, an original Balzac armchair, a great little bathroom with towels changed every day and a fantastic walk in wardrobe so all your things can be put out of sight.
The breakfast-for a country so famous for food, breakfast is often a letdown. Not here! Fresh bread, pastries, yoghurt, cheese, ham, nuts and seeds-all delicious. But It is the little touches which make is special-the fresh flowers on the table every morning, the beautiful linen and crockery, the quirky cutlery and lovely music playing at a perfect level.
The Couple-exceptional! Monsieur and Madame Branche could not have been kinder, more welcoming or more accomodating. They put up with my haphazard French and were happy to talk about the decor of the flat, interesting shops and good restaurants to try.

This is truely one of the best places I have ever stayed.

Je retournerai. Merci tellement!!!

It will be very difficult to find a B & B to top this one. Chambre d'Hugo is beautifully decorated and in a fabulous location, close to shops, sights and restaurants. The room is spacious, very comfortable bed, small sitting area, walk in robe with lots of room, and very well appointed bathroom - all first class. The parking space just around the corner from the apartment was very handy. Our elegant host Christine was so helpful, only to happy to make restaurant bookings, give travel advise and even help plan the remainder of our trip. Breakfast was the best we have had during our 6 week holiday. This is an exceptional B & B - book early.

Room Tip: There is only one room - book early

This is such a quirky, charming chambre d'hôte -- literally, just one room, beautifully decorated, and quiet. At my request, the hostess kindly prepared a delicious, fresh, fruitarian breakfast for me since I spent the rest of my trip eating in bouchons. (The apartment, by the way, is perfectly located for bouchon sampling -- you can walk everywhere.) Wifi works well. My only complaint (and it's tiny) is that the room was a little stuffy -- the windows are a double set, to counter the street noise, and they don't open.

Dear Madam,
Thank you for your review which describes well the ambiance of the room and the variety and freshness of the meals that I offer to all my guests.
For the double windows, I am very disapointed that you don't asked me how to open them. They can be easily opened by turning the handle, a classical way to do it in France.
And I am happy to inform you that since your stay in june 2011, the bedding has been changed for a more comfortable one.
I hope to meet you again for your next stay in Lyon.

Christine and Christophe were so welcoming and helpful, they made me feel at home straight away, which was particularly important for me as I was travelling alone. All the home comforts you might expect, with added thoughtful extras, in a beautiful apartment in the centre of the old town in Lyon - the location is excellent. The room itself is lovely, with a very comfy large bed. What struck me most was how considerate Christine was, always ready to help me, giving so much useful information during my stay. The breakfast is wonderful and changes everyday - Christine provides a wide range of treats to choose from. I would recommend La chambre d'Hugo to friends and family without hesitation.
