“Charming with central location”
Reviewed 18 September 2012 via mobile

We found our accommodation with everything we required. The location was perfect for all our sightseeing and close to the metro. Our host Christine was very helpful on arrival and made us feel very welcome. Full credit to Christine for the most exquisite breakfast, the detail of her preparation was delightful. We could not fault a thing. I would thoroughly recommend this accommodation.

What a fabulous B&B! First impressions as you walk through the imposing wooden doors off the main shopping street Victor Hugo is.......oh!? It is a large, dark, concrete entrance area for the whole block. You take a left into the stairs/lift area and 3 floors later you arrive at the Branche apartment. As soon as you enter you have the wow factor. Beautiful original wooden flooring, impeccably decorated and furnished. The hosts, Christine and Christophe are delightful. Nothing is too much trouble. Indeed the only hiccup we had was being unable to log on to their wi-fi. Christophe went to all lengths, even visiting the local computer shop to try and resolve the problem....impressive.
Our room was immaculate, the breakfast superb, such attention to detail. It really is hard to fault this B&B. Located right in the centre of Lyon, therein lies some difficulty if you are driving here. Parking is almost impossible! We thankfully took up Christophe's offer of his garage in a parallel street, expensive at 20 euros a night, and not the easiest to manoeuvre into, but the alternative is high risk damage looking at most cars in Lyon!
Yes, parking is an issue to be aware of, however it would be very unfair for it to detract from just how fabulous this B&B is. If we ever return to Lyon, even in our much treasured car, we would not hesitate to stay ay La Chambre d'Hugo.

Friendliness and location, excellent stay and Christophe Branche at their apartment in Lyon. They were a most welcoming couple right from our arrival, when Christophe met us and came with us to return our hire car to Avis at Gare Perrache because the area is difficult to locate in this large station.
Our large room and ensuite were very clean. The room was beautifully furnished and comfortable, and it was just like living in a small apartment, without a kitchen. Our price included an extensive breakfast, nicely presented in beautiful china, each morning. The hosts gave us a list of recommended restaurants which proved to be of very good standard and especially a marvellous dinner at Tete Doie on the hill overlooking Lyon. We used the funicular railway to access this wonderful restaurant and return to Lyon.
Our hosts were happy to discuss any tourist attractions and suggest others at any time during the day, and this was very beneficial to us.
The Branches also have a cottage near Cormantin, north of Lyon, which they hire out and this is very tempting our next trip to France.
At the end of our stay, our hosts took the trouble to transfer us to the place to meet our walking tour. We can highly recommend this beautiful chambre to fellow travellers. We felt that we were truly guests in their own home. Thank you Christine and Christophe.

We had the pleasure of experiencing the welcoming hospitality of Mr & Mrs Branche and their very comfortable antique filled accommodation. We have experienced some wonderful and not so wonderful stays in the past, however the three relaxing nights spent at no.21 were memorable for the hosts caring and consideration they afforded us.
The accommodation was 5 star and every request we made was greeted with complete helpfulness. The breakfasts were of quality, variety and quantity. We particularly enjoyed the jams and the "extras" which were devoured with gusto.
Upon arrival Mr Branche met us in the locale and guided our car into his private garage. There was always offers of assistance by our hosts if we needed any local information eg restaurant recommendations or specialty shopping. They are a font of local knowledge.
The stay was pleasurable and without any negatives. Mr & Mrs Branche represent B&B accommodation at its finest. This Aussie couple were extremely impressed.

Every B&B should aspire to be like this one! All the superlatives have been used already, but they are all true: the location is excellent, the accommodation impeccable and the breakfasts superb, varied and delicious, with those special thoughtful touches which make them a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Christine and Christophe Branche are the perfect welcoming hosts, friendly yet discreet. It has been a privilege to stay in their beautiful home.

Thank you, Christine, for your recommendations: the Cafe/Restaurant Mademoiselle was particularly good. And thank you both very much for rising at the crack of dawn on our last morning, not only to make us breakfast but also to drive us to the station: that was so kind.

I can't recommend La Chambre d'Hugo too highly. It has to be the best B & B in Lyon - so look no further!

Thank you very much Christine and Christophe for the wonderful stay, my wife and I had a fantastic stay with you in Lyon and I would highly reccomend this to anyone else. A beautiful apartment and well appointed. Christine, the breakfast each day was amazing. The local knowledge for shopping and also restaurants including booking for us each night was very valuable. It was great having drinks with you each night before heading out. We hope you enjoy the champagne. We would love to visit your house in Bordeaux some time.

This beautiful apartment is so well situationed right in the centre of Lyon and yet a quiet and peaceful haven to retreat to from site seeing and shopping. Christine and Christophe are the perfect hosts; welcoming, knowledgeable, friendly and discrete. It now feels like we are visiting old friends as we have enjoyed staying twice, both in winter and summer. The decore and ambience are perfect, wonderful touches such as beautifully prepared and served breakfasts which vary each day and include homemade jams, fresh fruit, yoghurt, delicious pastries and breads and excellent coffee, crisp quality bedlinen and fluffy towels. Everything you could wish for a perfect stay. Christine is also very helpful with maps and recommendations for shopping and restaurants. We look forward to also staying at their property in Burgundy on our next visit.
