Hotel Bayard is extremely well situated for a short stay to explore Lyon. The rooms are simply decorated but clean and comfortable with TV and wifi. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. For those driving to Lyon there is an underground car park under Place Bellecour the pedestrian exit is in the centre of Place Bellecour which is only 200m from the hotel. The metro is also a similar distance. All in all this hotel is excellent value for money and I would happily recommend it.

situated in a perfect location, it's very suggestive.
Close to the old town with typical furnitures and clean bathroom. Dogs are welcome (8euros supplement)
There's free wifi and a good continental breakfast not included (for 12 euros you can also have breakfast in one of the bakeries in the nearby)

This is a fairly typical two star hotel. It's a bit eclectic, with some rooms a lot nicer than others. It's in an older building, no elevator so you have to walk up a flight of stairs. Not a problem if you can do it, but if you aren't fit and have a humungo suitcase, it's going to bother you. I'm not sure why it only has two stars, as it has all the amenities and location of much more expensive hotels. Sometimes the lack of something not important can mean the loss of a star (like one gorgeous place we stayed that had no television so only rated one star. Really!)

The staff speak good English if that's needed (we speak French so not an issue) and were helpful and pleasant. The hotel is right on Place Bellecour so the metro and tourism office are right across the street.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an outside view; ours looked into an inner (very small) court.

It was our first stay at Bayard and if we go to Lyon once again we will definately stay at this hotel. It was right in the heart of the old town, very near all the restaurants and shops. After we checked in and were shown our room we were really surprized that it was a 2 star hotel! The only drawback was that there wasn't a lift But we didn't fuss over that as we only had to climb up to the first floor - if you wish they help you carry your luggage. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. We definately recomend it to anyone who's going to Lyon.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the Bellecour Plaza

We stayed at the Hotel Bayard on Plaza Bellecour. We didn't notice it was a two-star hotel and paid for it. We walked into the Royal Hotel next door first, thinking that was our hotel and loved it (and will stay there next time), but they sent us a couple doors down. The hotel isn't even on the ground floor, it starts on the first floor and there's no elevator. And there's no AC. No restaurant or bar. The first room we were given smelled horribly so they changed us to another, which was dark, poorly decorated and depressing. We finally got a room in another section which was better; good beds, sheets and pillows, and a nice bathroom, and I guess that is all good if you are expecting a two-star room. But we were expecting more, especially for the price we paid. I'll pay the rate of the Royal next time.

Room Tip: If you are traveling during the summer months to Lyon, you'll want AC. This hotel doesn't ha...

Stayed for 3 nights in this 2 star hotel and was not disapointed. Perfect location on the place de Bellecourt. Metro right in front of the hotel, Vieux Lyon, shops and restaurants all in walking distance. Friendly staff, free wifi and the breakfast for french standards and 2 stars is very good. Room was a decent size and clean. All in all good value for money. No elevator in the building if I am not mistaken. Reception on the first floor, rooms can be on the first floor or up.
