“Comfortable Hotel in Lyon”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2012

We were meeting friends who already had a booking Cite International area so chose this hotel to be nearby. As we were driving, the availability of reasonable parking was also a factor. Parking downtown would probably be more difficult.

The bedroom was large, clean and comfortable, with a shower room and separate toilet. One side of the wall was filled with white cupboards & shelves so plenty of space to put clothes, my wife remarked very "IKEA-like", but perfectly functional. At the far end was a small kitchen area with a 2-ring hotplate, microwave, dishwasher, ( and tablets!), kettle, coffee-maker and lots of plates, bowls, pots, pans cutlery etc, so more than adequate for breakfast or cooking a simple meal. Near the hotel are several restaurants and there's a small shop selling bread, milk and other basic food stuffs.

You are asked at check-in if you want breakfast, which at €12 is a bit steep, especially when we normally just have tea and toast, so the kitchen facilities were well worth having.

If you arrive by car, there is no parking at the front of hotel, in fact you cant see the hotel, so drive directly into P-2 underground car park from Avenue Ch de Gaulle.

The location is a bit out of the centre but is very easy to reach in about 10 mins by bus, or if you prefer by bike from the adjacent hire station! A very nice park, with boating lake, zoo, and botanical garden is just alongside the hotel, well worth investigating or cycling around.

Warning on car parking. Make sure you ask for their special parking rate when you book and then make sure you PAY for it in advance at Check-in, (at €8/day), otherwise you may end up paying the hugely expensive €35/day rate. I say this because at check out the receptionist couldn't find a ticket with our name on it to exit parking and she said "But in that case you pay the full rate" which was about €120" - only when we insisted we had already paid did she check the computer and realising her mistake she apologised and issued us with a special exit ticket.

Stayed at this place for three nights while waiting to move into an apartment. The hotel is more of an apartment complex situated on the International City in Lyon. The rooms are bigger than you'd expect from hotels in France. The area is full with bars and restaurants and very chic.

I stayed at this location in March, 2012 for work at Interpol. While it is a convenient walk (about 10 minutes) to Interpol, there are likely better options in City Internationale. I passed by a Hilton every morning (closer to Interpol) and wondered it if would have been a better option.

The rooms are spacious by European standards, and include a small sink, dishwasher, fridge and stove top. However, because of the location, when I arrived on a Sunday absolutely nothing was open where I could have bought any food. When I asked, the front desk said only by taking a bus would i have found anything that sold food and because of the jet lag I opted not to go. The rooms are brightly colored (yellow, orange) and only have showers (no bath tub). I suggest bringing flip flops because the floor surface is extremely rough as well as dirty and stained. They do include daily breakfast which had a variety of reasonable options to eat (cereal, eggs, bread, cheese, yogurt). The worst part was probably the daily maid service. They were very inconsistent, even after I went down on the 3rd day to complain. Only 2 of the 8 days did I have a floor mat for the shower, and I received anywhere from 1-3 towels depending on the day of service. I would oftentimes return to my room at the end of the day to find the trash can items strewn about - either sitting on a shelf (as if forgotten) or along the floor leading to the door and toilet area.

The front desk seemed friendly and spoke English well enough for us to communicate. The proximity to the grand park is great and you can easily walk around there for hours. It is about a 45-60 minute walk to the Old Town area near the Cathedral and shops, but the walk is not bad as it goes along the river then past the Opera House. Don't rely on them to give you directions - I had to ask someone from Interpol for that information as the front desk could not provide it accurately. Also apparently they did have wireless internet, but it was never offered to me until I asked near the end of my trip. I tried their "business center" which is basically 2 computers but they both had keyboards in French, none in English, so I could not use them.

Room Tip: Avoid the floors where they have the centers - activity, fitness, television, computers) so you are...

Modern, but comfortable, this property was well served by public transport, and also right across the road from the river on one side and a huge park on the other. A bit lacking in reasonable family restaurants around the area.

that was what we heard whenever we made (always reasonable) requests. Space-efficient rooms were clean and comfortable. It is like a city within a city. We'll happily stay here again.
