“Charming Atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

The loges Vieux Lyon is close to perfect for a visit of the city of Lyon. Located in the older part of the city, just around the corner of the Saone river, it is in walking distance to the major part of the city and of the train that takes you up on the hill with the basilika.
Although very close to the buzzeling main street of the old city, it is pretty quiet - apart from some groups of younger people on their way home later in the evening.
The appartment is perfectly equiped, clean and very nicely furnished. Thus, even stayin "at home" and enjoying some of the great French food on the couch is an option.

We stayed in Loge St. Jean for 5 nights and really wanted to like this place. The apartment itself is small, but nice. The kitchenette was enough to make a small breakast but cooking, and finding room to eat, any other meals became challenging. The good sized closet helped with storage as well to keep the small size from getting clastrophic. The location is pretty nice, if you don't mind groups of tourist during the day. It's easily to walk anywhere in Vieux Lyon and there's a laundrymat just a few doors down and any good restaurants close by (Agnes has great recommendations!)

Truly, my problem came from the neighbors, mainly the restaurant below (one floor down, sharing a courtyard). The prep for dinner started around noon and they continued to make loud noises until after midnight. Earplugs helped, but did not block all of the noise. In addition, there were some kids running up and down the stairs, slamming the entry gate, and we were awakened early one morning by construction workers on one of the higher floors drilling. However, the kicker, and the reason have to lower this rating is because of the lack of hot water! We are a very active couple and sometimes would come back exhausted and tired from a day of hiking or cycling and wanted to freshen up before dinner... Evidently the hot water unit is also shared by the restaurant because there was no hot water in the unit after 6 pm. (Also caused problems with washing dishes in the evening).

Also, watch out for parking! Agnes had us park in St. Antoine and it cost over 120€ for 5 days!

The apartment has potential, and Agnes was super friendly and recommended great places in the area, but the disrupted sleep, even with earplugs, and the lack of hot water keep me from being able to recommend this loge. Perhaps one of the other two would be better.

We stayed at St Jean, which is in the perfect location, provides a large living space, chic design, and best of all a comfortable bed. It is akin to a small studio apartment in old Lyon that offers instant access to all the attractions of the old town and easy access to the rest of the city and its environs. Agnes gave us tips on where to eat--and they were excellent. And all this for 100 Euros a night--it is steps from several luxury properties in Vieux Lyon that will cost you three times as much, enough said.

I stayed in the Loge Gadagne apartment for six nights. I hate to sound a lower note than all the enthusiastic raves here, but although the hosts Agnes and Jean-Luc were very nice and very helpful, in my opinion the place itself is only average.

I prefer staying in apartments to hotels, but good short-term apartments are hard to find. I have found good ones in London and Milan, but not yet in some other cities I frequent, such as Lyon. Please see my other reviews to see my approach - I am not a complainer, and try to grade fairly.

PROS:
Location is fantastic. If being in the touristic Vieux Lyon is what you seek, you just step out the door and there you are. Tons of restaurants, oodles of charm, great access to lots of sights. The kitchen is decently fitted out. The water is hot. Wi-fi is OK. There are some nice design touches.

NEGATIVES:
The focus is on attractive design elements rather than function; some basic stuff just doesn't work so well.

There is no door on the (separate) toilet.

The refrigerator made so much noise at night that it woke me, repeatedly, so I finally had to unplug it. The next day Jean-Luc very kindly got some ice from a restaurant, which kept my milk etc. cold at night while I unplugged the fridge. This, of course, is a "B" solution!

The TV (very high-tech) would come on every morning at 7:30 am. Neither Agnes or I could figure out how to adjust that setting, so we ended up unplugging that as well.

The bedroom was upstairs, though the main light switch for the bedroom was downstairs, so it took a bit of back-and-forth at night to settle in. And the main lights themselves were pointed directly at your eyes in bed. Also in the lighting domain, there was no bedside table with a reading light. I moved things around and used a chair for this purpose.

I guess my sense was that the design of the place was to look pretty in the promotional pictures (they are gorgeous!) rather than to be useful for a tenant. One reason I tried Loges Vieux Lyon is that it is rated as "4 keys" in the French site Clevacances.com which looks very official and authoritative. In my opinion, although it's not bad, and priced decently (and again, the hosts are lovely people), it's nothing special.

My wife and I spent two nights at the Loges Vieux Lyon in late December. This superbly located, well run property by Mdme Agnes Ivanoff is at the epicentre of all the best sights and haunts in Vieux Lyon. It is within 20 minutes walking distance to the Les Halles des Paul Bocuse (heavey for all foodies), around the same time away from Lyon's culinary institution, the 2-starred La Mere Brazier, and in a buzzing pulsating district full of bouchons (the excellent Notre Maison is literally just outside the main doors to the Loge). On Sunday morning, there's an art market just along the stretch before Pont Alphonse Juin, again, 2 minutes walk from the Loge, and cross the river, one can stroll among the market stalls of local producers and buy almost any cheese, meat, seafood, vegetable, etc at Quai St Antoine.
The apartment itself is tastefully appointed, with a split level for the bedroom. There's an induction hob if you'd like to cook (no need to with so much food around). Mdme Ivanoff is extremely helpful - she got us a reservation at the Notre Maison. Parking is available around the area, but the best place to plonk a car is just outside the ecole (school) near the Loge. Public parking though, so be sure to top up your Euro coins - 4 euros for 3 hours a pop, free on Sundays.
One tip - for wine lovers, the whacky, crazy, superbly well-stocked Antic wine is just 5 minutes walk don the alleyways from the Loges. You can buy almost anything there, and if you're lucky, like me on a cold, rainy December evening, you may just stumble into the proprietors tasting a rarity like Collioure's Mas de la Casa Blanca red.
There's nowhere better to stay! .

Spent three nights at Loge Saint Jean in September, so much better than staying in a hotel! The Loge is a self contained apartment with kitchen, walk in shower, Toilet and dressing area! The apartment is behind one of the many intriguing doors of Lyon and is part of a Traboule. We felt extremely safe the whole time we were there. It is ideally located right in the centre of Vieux Lyon and only a short walk away to many restaurants, cafes and bars. The apartment is clean and we were greeted by Jean Luc who is extremely helpful and friendly, Agnes had also made reservations for us at a restaurant prior to our arrival which was great. The only problem with Lyon is parking as it is expensive, we parked in the Saint Jean car park initially but there was also parking that was free overnight just at the end of the street. There is a handy laundrette at the end of the street as well which we used as we had been travelling to a number of places.
