Reviewed 23 September 2013

Hotel is really well situated close to the old city. Easy walk to all main lyon attractions and many good restaurants. Hotel is very comfortable- ask for a room with a view of the river.
Arriving by car is a bit of a hassle due to traffic congestion, but hotel will provide secure parking nearby. Stayed 3 nights , would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for room overlooking the river

This hotel, while being a 13 euro taxi fare away from the main train station Lyon Part Dieu, was in a brilliant location to explore the history that makes Lyon such a wonderful city. The staff were really helpful, our room was on the third floor and at the back of the hotel was a really good size and quiet. The breakfast was really good.

Room Tip: Book a junior suite which a really good size and seems to be a the back of the hotel overlooking a c...

We stayed for two nights in June and were very disappointed.
It started badly when we arrived as the entrance door had broken glass, which is not a good look.
It was not repaired while we there. As Rue Bondy is a busy road the taxi driver advised us that we would have to get out of the taxi quickly as he wasn't supposed to stop outside the hotel. Leaving the hotel was even more difficult in these conditions.
The condition of the reception area, common areas and breakfast room were very tired and badly need updating and a coat of paint.
The condition of the room (Junior Suite) was OK but it did not live up to the photographs on the website or promotional brochures. It's amazing what lighting and a good photographer can do. The selection of paint colours was unusual to say the least. Both mornings at 7am there was only cold water in the shower, and each morning the person at reception told us they would have to contact the engineer. 20 minutes later hot water was restored.
The hotel is located next door to an abandoned night club and a row of closed shops. Although it is near the old town it is a quite a distance from the restaurant areas & main shopping of Lyon.
The staff were polite but it was generally a soulless and disappointing experience.

Room Tip: Dn't always believe what you see in photos on web-sites or printed promotional material

Monsieur,

Bien cordialement.

Stayed for 2 nights very comfortably in Le Phenix. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful and the room was a relief to come back to at night after a whole day of sightseeing.

Pros: 1) Centrally located within walking distance to attractions in Vieux Lyon and shopping, 2) Room was a good size and clean, 3) Bathroom was large and modern.

Oh, and it has one of the smallest elevators I've ever been in XD.

Room Tip: Only con was that the room I was in (111) had windows facing indoors, i.e. a communal lounge, so I h...

I stayed at the Le Phenix this past weekend and took advantage of the promotional rates. The executive room was very comfortable and nice. The shower was outstanding and easily twice as large and any other French hotel I've stayed in. The lobby clerk was very friendly, helpful and spoke good English. The only issue that presented a problem was parking. There is little parking available in front of the hotel, as it is on the riverfront. However, it is right next to the old section of Lyon with great restaurants, cafes, and eateries.

Room Tip: No pool at the hotel.

Dear guest,

Thank you so much for this advice, we appreciate !

For the garage, we have maximum 08 places of parking in our box, but (as you should do for a room) it must to be booked before the arrival.

For the next time, do not forget to reserve the garage before the arrival.

We hope to see you soon in our hotel,

Best regards.

This is a neat quirky hotel in central Lyon convenient for old town and a short walk to new town. Our room was clean but old-fashioned (great if you like salmon-pink bathroom suite). The hotel staff were very low profile and the overall impression from our short stay was of a soul-less experience. If you like quiet and bland (but with quirky buildings) this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the river no higher than third floor (fourth floor rooms are attic rooms...

Booked through the tourist centre apron arrival in Lyon, rooms were clean and spacious, close to the old town where there is an incredible amount of restaurants. Parking is available but off site, maybe 10 minutes walk. Breakfast was not included and was very very ordinary.
