“Lost our property and wouldn't compensate”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2013

We stayed here as part of a big group, spending several thousand euros. My wife takes a special pillow because of her bad neck, it's bigger and different to the hotel pillows. The cleaning staff took the soft linen pillowcase off it (again, this looked nothing like a hotel pillowcase) and sent it to the laundry, never to be seen again. Then they rammed the big pillow into a much smaller and rougher hotel pillowcase!
I asked the hotel to pay for a new pillowcase which cost us 22 Euros, which despite the vast sums our group spent, they refused to do. This appears to be very mean

Room Tip: River facing rooms are better but you may have late night revellers on some nights

Dear Sir,

We understand your complaint, but we inform you to advise the receptionist of the hotel when you install your own laundry or pillowcase on the bed : the cleaning woman cannot guess it is yours...and all the linen of bed is sent in a industrial pressing everyday (it manages with an industrial quantity of linen).
The next time it should be better for you do that, especially if your pillowcase is white as our pillow cases...it is not possible for the pressing to find it !

I hope you understand that, and I do not discourage to see you again in the hotel,

Regards.

We were booked into this hotel by Voyages Jules Verne as a two-day post script to our cruise up and down the Rhone. It was a good choice. Although our room didn't have a view, it was beautifully appointed, with a spacious bathroom including a spa bath. And it was perfectly, perfectly quiet, despite being next door to a couple of nightclubs. The staff were delightfully helpful - they deserve their tip, which you leave in a charming (or naff) little box - make sure you use it so you can judge for yourself. The hotel faces the Saone and is close to the Old City, with most of the attractions within easy walking distance.

It speaks volumes for the excellence of the place that the only gripe I had was with the horrible cheap disposable cups in the room - but then, how many European hotels have tea and coffee making facilities?

Sometimes you have good surprises...
I'm used to go to business oriented hotels and this time, all booked, due to an exhibition in Lyon. I finally found a room in this hotel and I'm really happy I did as I will come back.
The location is really good, in the earth of the 'Vieux Lyon' and in front of the Saône river. It's a walking distance (10 minutes) from the subway station 'Vieux Lyon'. The area is really nice with old buildings and lots of bars and charming restaurants.
My room was really nice, well decorated and quite spacious. Some of them are facing the river.
The staff was really helpful in giving (good) advises.
The breakfast is served downstairs in an old interior court paved with very nice cement tiles surmounted by a nice metallic veranda.
This is my only minus, the quality of the breakfast could be upgraded by investing in a real coffee machine.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Saône river.

We statyed two nights in this hotel in Lyon and were on the top floor in a VERY small room. Our friends who were also in the same hotel had much larger rooms facing the river and paid just a little more. So our advice is if you book a room there , be sure to ask for a room facing the river and pay a little extra. Staff was good and hotel very clean and good location.

Dear guest,

We thank you so much for your advice : of course, you have booked a basic standard room, with a real good price.
For a little much (40 € app. on the week end), you can have a terrific Deluxe room with the view on the river Saone.....the choice is yours !
We hope to welcome you again in the Phenix Hotel...in a Deluxe room..
Regards.

A small, well run and very welcoming hotel (the staff are first rate - polite and helpful) with generous, comfortable and recently refurbished rooms. Thanks to the combination of double and secondary glazing the rooms are also very quiet, even those at the front of the hotel which have a wonderful outlook over the river. The location is excellent, right on the edge of Vieux Lyon, with lots of interesting places to see and good places to eat within 10 minutes easy walking (the hotel's recommendations regarding restaurants proved very reliable). It also has the advantage of being near the terminus both of trolleybus route C3 and of bus route S1, which means you can access most parts of Lyon very easily including the main train stations Lyon Part Dieu (C3), Parrache (S1). Add to that proximity to the water bus - the Vaporetto - serving Bellecour and the Confluence (a landing stage is in front of the hotel), and you would be hard pressed to find a better positioned hotel whether for leisure or for business. Good value as well.
Tip :- cars are not encouraged in Lyon but the public transport system is clean, cheap, reliable and quick. Individual tickets can be bought for 2 euros on any bus, tolleybus or metro, last for one hour and can be used on all forms of transport if used within the hour. Discounted bundles of 10 can be bought from the TCL outlets.

Room Tip: Best rooms for the view are at the front and very quiet if the double and secondary glazing is close...

Hotel is really well situated close to the old city. Easy walk to all main lyon attractions and many good restaurants. Hotel is very comfortable- ask for a room with a view of the river.
Arriving by car is a bit of a hassle due to traffic congestion, but hotel will provide secure parking nearby. Stayed 3 nights , would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for room overlooking the river

This hotel, while being a 13 euro taxi fare away from the main train station Lyon Part Dieu, was in a brilliant location to explore the history that makes Lyon such a wonderful city. The staff were really helpful, our room was on the third floor and at the back of the hotel was a really good size and quiet. The breakfast was really good.

Room Tip: Book a junior suite which a really good size and seems to be a the back of the hotel overlooking a c...
