“Spacious Suites in a Good Location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2009

We spent just one night at this hotel as we were in town to eat at Paul Bocuse's restaurant. We arrived in the late afternoon, quickly figured out the parking garage, although it's not that clear if you're just arriving (basically park in any open spot that has a little green sign by it. The man who checked us in was very nice although I worked with my small knowledge of French, I'm not sure how much English they speak. We went up to our room and were pleasantly surprised with the size. There was a hallway with a toilet room, a separate shower and sink room, one bedroom, then a sitting room with pullout couch (which was actually pulled out for some reason).

The suite was very light and airy and had a lovely view of a tree-lined street. We headed back downstairs to get a map of the town and again, the man was very helpful in pointing out the main things to see and how to go.

Overall the suite was somewhat basic, with all the necessities in the bathroom, but not much personality. The main rooms were nicely decorated, but a bit old fashioned, and again, not much personality. The accommodation was fine though, clean, comfortable and the remote on the TV actually worked - which I feel like never happens in hotels! Also, they had a normal size blowdryer with good power which I also appreciate.

We had breakfast the next morning in the restaurant as it was included in our stay and it was substantial and I would say above average but not excellent. We arrived shortly before it closed so the scrambled eggs were gone, but there were still plenty of choices with breads, hardboiled eggs, meats, cheeses, fruit, etc. They kept the cold meats and cheeses in a small refridgerator (clear so you could see in), which was better than keeping that stuff out like other hotels do.

Overall a good stay, especially good value for the money. The location was good and the staff helpful and the rooms spacious. The actual decor/style wasn't really my taste but otherwise a great choice.

loved the bright large room and attached kitchen. Upscale location close to the park is wonderful for a morning or evening jog. local metro about 15 min walk down the street makes it great for visitors as well. Great for week end stay and exploring Lyon.

When we arrived with our reservation, we were told that the price increased and that we had to pay the price of that day. We had to talk to the manager and spend 2 hours to convince them to honor the price on the reservation. The staff was very, very rude to us. The rooms are not four stars quality and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. The restaurant was terrible and expensive; the food was uneatable. Also the restaurant was closed on the weekend so we could not even get a coffee in the morning unless we paid 19 euros each for a full breakfast in the breakfast dining room. The location is not central and there are no coffee shops, restaurants or boulangeries in the area. Overall the experience was very bad - there are much better hotels in Lyon and we would advise you stay somewhere more central. This is not a four star hotel, we have stayed in better 3 star hotels throughout France. Also of note, it is 20 euros a day to have internet in your room.
We left a day early due to an awful stay and in addition due to one very rude staff member in particular, Ruben, who could not have been less helpful!!

La Reine Astrid is a hotel that delivers what it charges you. Great rooms, the best location in Lyon, polite staff and all facilities, including sauna, parking lot and (bad) expensive wi-fi connection.

I was amazed by how spacious the rooms were. I was traveling alone and almost felt guilty taking up so much room. The hotel is very chic and elegant. I had a bedroom with a separate living room area, kitchen, and even a foyer. The hotel was in a very safe place and convenient to restaurants and attractions. The only negative thing was the staff seemed very young and not very knowledgeable about the area.

  • Liked — the room cleanliness, size, and elegance
  • Disliked — the front desk staff didn't seem familiar with the area

Warm welcome, helpful and attentive despite a number of couples and parties checking in at the same time. An immediate impression of professionalism set the scene for an enjoyable stay in this lovely serviced apartment located opposite a beautiful park in Lyon.
Great restaurant in-house a bonus as the apartment complex is located away from the Old Cite and the centre of Lyon's famous restaurants. Charming hosts made for several enjoyable nights.
Negatives were few - poor maintenance in the apartment meant some of the fixtures were not in good repair. Being well away from the centre of Lyon was both a negative and a plus. Too far to walk after a night out but great for a slow stroll back after sight seeing during the day.

  • Liked — Space, light & comfort
  • Disliked — A bit too far away from main centre

This is a charming Hotel situated just out of the city but within walking distancealong the picturesque riverside. The suite we had was
large and beautifully furnished with a full kitchen. We stayed on the
weekend and unfortunately for our travelling companions the restaurant did not open on the weekend. Didn't worry us though as there are a surfeit of great restaurants in the city. Lyon is a beautiful city and we found the people very friendly including the staff of the Reine Astrid.

Would have appreciated more tea etc in the rooms but otherwise really
enjoyed our short stay.

  • Liked — The size and decor of the room and the amazing breakfast
  • Disliked — restaurant closed on weekend
