“Nice hotel with a perfect location”
Reviewed 9 January 2014

This is a beautiful old-world hotel situated in the center of Lyon. Cosy, well kept (although a bit overwhelmingly decorated) hotel with friendly service. Le Royal is overlooking the enormous Bellecour square and is only a few paces from the best shops and restaurants in town. Good sized rooms, but very small bathrooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the square - the rooms facing the courtyard have absolutely no view and are qu...

This hotel has not just an amazing location but it also is impeccable in its service. I think it is hard to find a place where you can say that all is perfect, well here it is. Since you come in to the reception everyone is friendly, smiles and happy to help. The breakfast is not extremely big but the quality of the food is extremely high. Also the girls who work at breakfast are really nice and professional. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. The restaurant is as well a professional cooking school, I haven't had the chance to try it but the food must be amazing, next time.
So I couldn't really find anything wrong with the whole stay. It was all excellent!
Thank you

The hotel is located at Place Bellecourt, in the heart of the city.
We stayed in a junior suite, created by joining two adjacent rooms, with two (small) bathrooms and a balcony facing the square.
As much as we liked the hotel itself, we were very disappointed with a level of service offered to non-French speaking guests - especially at the reception desk (female receptionist) and in the breakfast room, where a waitress kept us waiting for 10 min even though 2 tables were ready, and the staff spoke only in French. The only positive exception was concierge, nice, smailing and helpful.
At the entrance door there is an information that the hotel is managed by Paul Bocuse Institute - service at the hotel is a shame to such a great name!

As we were craving for a nice cafe at the Bellecour area, we stumbled over the Royal Hotel. The lobby decoration was great as was the Cafe area on the first floor. With nice music ( Sinatra style) and a lovely view over Place Bellecour, we deeply enjoyed our tea at the Royal Hotel.

Much better than the previous Accor property we stayed in (the Sofitel in Strasbourg)- location was excellent (connected to a large square near to many shops) and service was very good (especially the breakfast service). The room (A 'Superior Room') were also very nice- quite large, nicely designed, many amenities.
Only a couple of small issues- the free WiFi was a little difficult (VoIP was blocked, and one would have to sign in to separate 6 hour 'sessions'), and it was surprising to have keys, rather than swipe cards for the door.
Nevertheless, the hotel was great- we'd definitely return.

Room Tip: Note that some rooms only have a bath with handheld shower, which can't be mounted high up on th...

One is quickly reminded that Lyon is a textile center upon entering the Hotel Le Royal. The lobby sitting room was tastefully and cozily decorated in shades of blue -- a warm welcome from the subzero Lyon nights. The room was equally well-done. The only problem with the large bathroom was that there was no shower -- just a hand-held shower head. Breakfast was, as expected, yummy. The biggest plus, however, was the very professional, courteous and helpful concierge. Just like old times!

I have stayed at Le Royal Hotel for the first time more then seventeen years ago. The hotel has gone through a major transformation in the last few years where it has been completely renovated.

It has a very elegant decor, rooms are luxurious and the beds and linens are great. Le Royal is a small boutique hotel with great location and within walking distance from the main shopping area, antique shops and fine restaurants.

As a regular traveler to Lyon, I consider Le Royal one of Lyon's best hotels.
