“Great stop in Lyon”
Reviewed 27 August 2014 via mobile

Wonderful, stylish hotel. We arrived and were welcomed smartly, rather formal welcome but fine. Scenic suite booked however we were told there was no sofa bed for the kids... Which there was! Didn't matter booked another room anyway... Great position if you don't know Lyon and just want to walk out for a quick dinner as you're right in the thick of things. We didn't use the stylish bar but it looked great... We didn't sample breakfast as we had an early start...

Hotel Le Royal is a stunning hotel in the centre of Lyon. The rooms are huge and the staff are very helpful, we're staying in luxury! It's also well located to restaurants, the rivers, shopping precincts and the old town. If you arrive with a car, the concierge will take it to a private car park for you, and there's a daily cost for parking. It's probably a bit more than what we would usually pay for accommodation, but it was well worth it. And the breakfast is awesome!

We spent one night at the Hotel Le Royal, which was a lovely stay. We booked one of the suites. The pricing wasn't bad for a suite in a central location in Lyon. The hotel has some stunning common areas, the breakfast was lovely, croissants unbeatable!! The room itself was generally pretty nice, it had 2 bathrooms and a balcony overlooking the Square which was very nice.
Our only issue was that some areas of the room were tired - the living room had a very cheap sofa bed which was not comfortable to sit on, and the bathrooms were poorly configured - a very awkward shower that you can't stand in, and the bathrooms were very tired in desperate need of an overhaul. There are lots of renovations going on so hopefully these things will be rectified. The bed was extremely comfy!

My husband and I spend about a week at the Hotel 5 years ago and when I went back with my adult daughter, we decided to stay there again. The location couldn't be better, right on the Place Bellecour with wonderful views and easy access to public transportation and fabulous restaurants.

We booked a Junior Suite Rotonde with a king size bed and panoramic views. The room was absolutely wonderful with plenty of space, huge windows and a very comfortable bed. The room had 3 windows and a balcony all around.

Yes, we were shocked by the scaffolding when we arrived, but luckily we had the Suite on the 5th floor and the scaffolding did not interfere with our wonderful view.

Our booking included a free breakfast which we enjoyed very much.

Room Tip: I would highly recommend the Junior Suite Rotonde, preferably on the 5th floor.

This hotel met all of our expectations. The location is prime, right in the middle of the city and walking distance to everything!. The staff was very hospitable, helpful, and friendly. The room was clean, comfortable, and spacious for European standards. The hotel decor was excellent. We didn't get a chance to try their restaurant but there is no doubt the food would be exceptional, after all it IS Lyon! We recommend this hotel and will be sure to stay here again. If your planning a visit to Lyon you may be tempted to stay in this centrally located hotel that also houses the Paul Bocuse cooking school. Don't.
On arrival it was covered in scaffolding, the main elevator didn't work and the staff where about as pretentious as I've ever experienced in France, not even bothering to look you in the face when talking to you.
The breakfast is an hot sweaty little box of a room with no air con in August...and 25 euros each for nothing special.

We spent two nights at the Hotel Le Royal and had a wonderful stay. The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. We got a suite which was huge and beautiful for the price. The king bed was very comfortable and the views of Bellecour Square were phenomenal. There were two bathrooms which were average but certainly adequate. You cannot beat the location - right in the heart of everything, walk to anything. This hotel is not top-tier luxury but is an outstanding value.
