Arrived in midst of riots with burning cars, looted stores, etc. But the hotel staff was professional, quickly secured my car and drove it to a safe garage. They gave us updates daily as to the strike and whether the trains were running. Pleasant and knowledgeable staff.

Our one-night stay at the Hotel Le Royal was wonderful. There was an insane amount of traffic in downtown Lyon but the hotel had us pull right in front, unload our luggage and then they parked our car for us in the garage (cheaper than the public garage) while we were able to settle in.

The design of the hotel is beautiful, very french/modern. Even little things, like free water in the room, made our stay incredibly pleasant. Great location, wonderful staff (thanks Sebastian!) and a great city to visit.

This is an excellent hotel situate on a large square in central Lyon-withih easy reach of all the attractions.
Our circular room on the second floor overlooked the sqare and was well appointed.
We had a splendid lunch in the restaurant run by The Institute Paul Bocuse.

I stayed at the Hotel Royal in Lyon for just one night, but I was very impressed with it. The things I liked best were the relative value, free wi-fi, high-quality room, and the excellent location. The room I booked did not have a view, nor was it extremely large, but it did have two small closets to hang up clothes, a unique desk set up, wonderfully comfortable bed and linens, and very nice bathroom (good size and modern fixtures).

While I didn't get more than 5 or 6 tv channels in the room, I was pleasantly surprised by the availability of free wi-fi in the room.

I honestly would go back to the Hotel Royal if I traveled back to Lyon in the future. I didn't get to experience the restaurant(s), but now I wish I had!

After 6 nights in a charming but tiny tiny room in Paris where we had to walk sideeways to pass each other stopping here for one night was just what I needed. Great location, the hotel restaurant was fabulous with young chefs training with Paul Bocuse. A Vegas style bathroom with Fragonard toiletries, and a dressing room with an outlet actually NEAR a mirror for hair styling. Praise the Lord! This is a wonderful hotel, clean and comfy, attentive staff in a charming city. Love it.

My wife and I spent 3 nights at Le Royal in September. We booked a Suite Royale Bellecour that had a view facing Bellecour Plaza (the pay in advance rate was good and it included breakfast). The room was nicer than the floor plan on the website indicated. Facing the Square was great & the windows were sound proofed so no worries about street noise. We had a large living room with dining table, a bedroom a full bath and a second toilet and sink in another room.. The suite was nicely furnished (picture on web site as sample Suite Royale Bellecour) and the shower was not only huge, but great water pressure. All told a lovely suite with a lovely view. The breakfast was simple but elegant with nice breads, cheese, meats and made-to-order eggs. The front desk staff and wait staff were friendly and spoke good English.
The location was great. It is a 10-20 min walk from the old town area and from the main shopping areas. Close to museums and nice book stores. Taxis are expensive so you may want to dine close to the hotel. We ate 2 nights in old Lyon.
This was a pleasant experience and when we next go to Lyon to eat and look at books we will certainly stay here again and ask for the same type of suite.

The only bad part of our visit to Le Royal Hotel Lyon is that we could only stay one night! Between this fabulous hotel, the lovely city, and the outstanding meal we had at Le Cafe des Federations we will certainly be back to spend more time in Lyon.

The hotel is in a wonderful location with short walking distance to Old Town and many shops, cafes, and restaurants in the area as well.

Hotel staff was gracious, discreet, and ready to help in any way possible.

The decor is lovely; many/most of the pieces and furnishings were custom designed for the hotel, be sure to pick up a brochure from the front desk, it is quite interesting. Although a large hotel it feels inviting, comfortable, and almost like you are the only guest there (and we certainly weren't).

Rooms are generously sized with great bedding. Baths are lovely as well.

Breakfast is pricey but is generous and well done. If you are into just the "croissant and coffee" morning snack rather than a full breakfast there are a number of cafes and coffee stands within very short walking distance of the hotel.

Unless you can get a special deal, Le Royal is on the expensive side but is well worth the money. Good value.
