“Luxury in the heart of Lyon”
Reviewed 20 July 2013

Like other reviewers we found the staff very nice, the rooms very pretty since they were renovated only this year. A feature I would like to talk about is the soundproofing. We didn't hear a peep from other guests. You couldn't even hear eachother if you were talking in the hall, trying to get them to let you in. Also the soundproofing on the windows was excellent; you couldn't hear the traffic at all.
Great location on top of the Sephora, next to Le Printemps, etc.

Loved this hotel and the staff! Excellent location and on arrival, they offered to park our car for us in their carpark - nice! We were on honeymoon so they upgraded our room and we had an excellent view from our balcony over the fountain and towards the old town so we could see the cathedral on the hill, which is especially beautiful at night.

The room was gorgeous with an espresso machine and lovely toiletries. The bed was massive with really nice linen and soft duvet.

The bar downstairs is small but really nice and the barstaff are great.

All the staff are really helpful and will give you a map of the place with recommended restaurants if you like.

We didn't eat there and only stayed one night but would definitely recommend. It's listed as 4 star but the service, decor and general attention to detail is most definitely 5 star. We had a really lovely time and felt like superstars.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the fountain.

We booked 2 rooms recently - one a suite and one a regular room. The regular room is teeny tiny, but very stylish with adequate sized bathroom with a window. The suite is quite nice - it comes with a walk in shower and not a tub. The location is quite perfect - steps away from major shops and Printemps. Service is very professional and warm.

We were very pleasantly surprised with the size of the room, decor, huge balcony. It was really comfortable, even perhaps luxurious. We are now in the Hotel Martinez in Cannes which is supposed to be OO La La @ euro 700 per night !! Frankly room 322 at the Carlton was much nicer, although of course it didn't have a view of the Mediterranean.

We decided to come to Lyon a day earlier, and after looking through and reading reviews on the Carlton, I booked a cozy twin room. I didn’t know what to expect, since we were in a small shoebox in Marseille. In my message to the hotel, I requested a quiet room away from the elevator. We were given rm 317 on the side that faces a somewhat busy area, however, they have these double windows that block out everything. Upon entrance, we were very happy and impressed with the décor and size!

The room was quite large for a “cozy” and the bathroom was huge! You could’ve fit two bathrooms of the last place we were at in there. Our only issue was that there wasn’t enough counter space and another hook would’ve been great. Unique large shower, and the window opened to a small balcony.

Great flat screen tv, great closet with a safe at midlevel and easy to access, and free WiFi, but I paid for the upgrade which was faster, only 8E for three days. We were able to change some of the tv shows to English, which was nice. The twin beds were incredibly soft, comfortable, and larger than the last ones we slept on and sleep came easy. The AC worked great and didn’t blow directly on me and managed to cool down the room quickly. At one point, I didn’t feel like leaving the room. I could’ve read my book and slept all day…maybe next time.

Breakfast was included and it was an assortment of pastries and breads, cereals, fruit and yogurt, meats and cheeses, pancakes and crepes, and four hot items with eggs cooked to order. The coffee was very good and everything was served with an incredible smile and warmth from the workers. We came down toward the end, 10 am, and the crowd was just finishing up. Our last morning we came down at 7 and there was only one other table.

The Carlton is affordable luxury and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Lyon. The staff is courteous, very friendly and always available for any questions. I was given a brief history of the cool elevator and its transformation. We didn’t go to the bar, so I couldn’t comment. There is also a spa available but we didn’t use it either, but perhaps next time. I would love to come back to Lyon. It’s a great city and there’s still more I didn’t get to see. But one thing is certain, I will be staying at the Carlton.

Room Tip: I suggest contacting the hotel and write it in French. It just makes it easier for them to understa...

Had 2 nights here. The hotel is very well situated on the Presqu'Isle of Lyon. We were spending most of our time in Accor hotels - so after the Mercures that are also in the group, this one is in a different class. The rooms were very nicely done, the bathroom was excellent (though just a shower, rather than a bath) and both the bedroom and bathroom overlooked the square. Service was good and breakfast was the best of our entire trip. The fit-out of the hotel is excellent as well. I would definitely stay here again. Only downside was that parking is Euro25 a day (even for part of a day,m I think) so our parking bill was Euro50, having arrived Mon evening and left Wed morning.
