This is a great hotel on two counts: first, it is easily accessible to travellers coming from or going to the Lyon airport (the airport tram stops right outside) or the Part Dieu train station (which is about 50 metres down the street). Second, the level of accommodation is very good value for the price. Our room was generous in size, clean and freshly decorated in contemporary style, and the bathroom was large and sleek, with a good shower and generous basin. The toilet was separate and had a hand basin. There were shampoos and shower gels but we couldn't figure out how to open the trendy packaging but only two bath and two hand towels. The hair dryer worked energetically. The bed was very comfortable (there were extra pillows in the wardrobe if you don't like Euro-style pillows) and the hotel was extremely quiet, with double glazed windows to keep out street noise and heavy curtains that could be closed to ensure the room was dark. There was a room safe, a mini bar (with nothing in it), tea and coffee products and free wifi which didn't always work but was fine when it did. The breakfast buffet was large and quite nice, catering for both European and American tastes, and is offered free to the elderly. The reception staff were smiling, efficient and friendly and made us feel welcome. Certainly recommend this hotel if you need a convenient place to stay near transport.

Besides of the location, which is very convenient for traveling with train, underground and buses, size of the room is sufficiently wide with nice lighting level. Room was clean and neatly prepared as well. In the restaurant we enjoyed very much "Tapas" of various kinds for dinner. The only thing I would like to recommend to the hotel is to put the "Elsafe" as in-room just safe like most of other Mercure Hotels do, as I think that is much easier for the visitor to use than the existing one.

It was such a treat to spend a few nights here after a long and rocky transatlantic flight. The hotel is fairly new (a year?) and has all the modern amenities (free wifi, nice decor). The rooms were surprisingly spacious for a European city, but it is not in a particularly historic part of the city. But the beds were the highlight--they were insanely comfortable. Even the small twin bed that doubled as a sofa during the day. The staff at the hotel were very nice and helped us with directions and other tourist-type issues. The location of the hotel is convenient for those using public transportation, though being next to a major train station also opens the opportunity for lots of pan-handlers and crowds of people roving around. There were no noise issues, however.

our experience was really nice. when we first checked in we were told that we could only have three people in the room, but our arrangements when booking had allowed us to have two adults and two toddlers. within a minute or so, we were told that they could accommodate us this time but to know that in the future we would have to book two separate rooms. We had no other problems whatsover and enjoyed our stay.

Just across the street from the hotel is the express to the airport and to the left of the hotel is the bus station, the metro and a mall. make sure to use only coins when purchasing metro passes because it does not accept foreigner credit cards nor paper money.

we drove around the city as we have two children and the metro we thought would be to chaotic with two children and a double-stroller.

the parking structure is to the right of the hotel and they validate and offer 50% off at the front desk.

the hallways smelled like cigarettes... but you are in france... so that's a given...

Room Tip: we were provided with a baby cot for our 1 1/2 year old child as well as the couch that turned into...

The hotel is located near the train station which is convenient for traveling, although not the most exciting part of the city. The hotel has huge rooms and a beautiful bathroom. The lobby has a funny odor, but overall the hotel is very nice. Wifi is free and easy to use.

The Mercure Lyon La Part Dieu is a high quality hotel decorated with contemporary design and materials tastefully coordinated. The lobby, the hallways, and the rooms are very attractive and warmly welcoming. The rooms are thoughtfully planned with a separate toilet to the large screen TV.
All staff were courteous and efficient. Check-in and check-out were a minute or two each.
17.50 euro each for breakfast we considered excessive for the small breakfast both my wife and I characteristically eat, so we had a simple yogurt-croisant-cappuccino breakfast just outside the train station, about 3 minutes away.
We would definitely stay here again if we are visiting Lyon. (By the way, it is easy to get to old town by subway in about 10 minutes.)

We booked a room for an average rate of Eur 123 (taxes and breakfast included), and we considered it was worth the money. Great place to stay.

Pros:
- new and modern hotel
- great breakfast
- breakfast room staff very atencious
- huge room
- conveniently located, just beside train and metro station

Con:
- while having a shower, it was impossible to avoid water splashing almost all over the bathroom, as the shower box was only partially isolated by a glass wall. Therefore, although nicely decorated in modern style, the bathroom was not practical once we had to spread towels on the floor to clean it after each shower.

Notwithstanding the problem with bathroom shower box design, I recomend this hotel and would stay there again if I came back to Lyon.
