The hotel is quite new, and was spacious and comfortable and very quiet. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and advised us about the carpark which is underneath the hotel. There is a lift direct to the hotel from the carpark so you can load and unload without going outside. There is a reduction for hotel guests.
The hotel is a distance from the tourist sites but is right next to a rail station, metro station and tram hub. A day ticket is cheap and useful, and the old town is no more than 15 minutes away by tram or metro. Public transport in Lyons seems to be clean, safe and by London standards very cheap.
We ate at the hotel restaurant, which we found to be exceptionally good - with really good service. The Express breakfast was a bit pricey but worth it and very generous, especially compared to Mercure breakfasts elsewhere.
Lyons itself is a delightful city for a short stay, but we were glad to be staying away from the busy centre of town.

Room Tip: The room we had was perfect, if you like a bit of space and peace and quiet

a new modern clean hotel with good food. Good staff and believe or not quiet. we had the upper room facing the train station, did not hear a thing. NIce room, big bed, good shower, TV that worked. Tea & coffee in room. getting rarer that. parking underneath, cheap as well.
stay here you will be surprised.

For our needs this was perfect - a good value hotel, especially weekend rates - good sized, clean rooms, and close proximity to the Train Station, where the TGV, Rhone Express, Regional Trains, and the Metro arrive and depart from. We only had 3 nights in Lyon, and on our second day took the train to Annecy for a day trip, so being close to the station was so convenient. The sound proofing in the rooms was brilliant, looked like two sets of double glazed windows - so very quiet considering its location next to the train station. For getting into Lyon there is the Tram stop across the street, and the Metro station in the outer courtyard of the main station. It suited us perfectly, but I would suggest if you were spending 3 nights or more in Lyon, and not wishing to venture out of the confines of Lyon, you may be best to find something in the city itself. As a hotel the Mercure Lyon La Part Dieu was great, but as a location, it is in the business district, which doesn't hold much 'tourist' appeal - and the outside of the train station is grimy and littered with cigarette buts. The Metro is easy to use though, and although relatively small still requires a connection point to get to the Presquile or Old Town. We used it day and at night with no problem, just check the hours of operation if you are going to be late in the evening as it does not run 24 hours like Paris.
The reason I gave only 4 stars for service was that whilst it was very easy to make reservations for the hotel, you can not use that same contact for messages, when I had a request for the hotel to make Restaurant reservations prior to our arrival, the email I sent had just gone 'around' the Mercure system and was not passed on to the Lyon Hotel, so they never received it, and we could not get into those particular restaurants upon arrival.
Train travel in France, and Europe is excellent, but sometimes having to deal with luggage at your destination, usually starting at the platform where you have to carry it up or down stairs, then lug it onto a bus/ metro/or taxi to your accommodation is tiresome - so to be able to wheel your bags just a few minutes, virtually next door was a welcome relief!

Very convenient if you are arriving at Lyon airport and going into Lyon - a very short walk from the airport tram. Very smart, good room (we went for a superior room). Great value at the weekends (pre-book over the net). Limited menu for dinner in the restaurant but helpful, fair priced for a hotel of this style, and good service if you are too tired to go out. If you are sight seeing it is not worth walking (as we did on our first day) to the old town but get a day metro/tram/bus ticket from the rail station (almost next door). I think the guide books over-rate Lyon (why are they so over-polite to large towns?) and if you have limited time in Bordeaux I would head straight for Dijon. If you want to see Lyon for a day I would recommend the Mercure for a night, and the location makes it easy to get the onward train (little point/a nuisance in having a car in Dijon itself).

Fantastic location if travelling by train. We were on our way from Geneva to southern france and needed an overnight to connect trains. This hotel is literally a 5 minute walk from the platform. It was extremely quiet, no train noise at all, clean large rooms with very roomy shower and separate toilet. All staff were courteous and spoke good english. Huge comfortable beds.
