“Excellent hotel and location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

If you are arriving on the train, take the Porte des Alpes to exit the station, turn right and the hotel is already visible, about 50m away on the right.
The staff were very polite and the rooms were excellent. The TV in my room must have been at least 60” and the bed was very comfortable. My room overlooked the train station, but the windows kept all the sound out.
You can also hire a car at the station, so it’s a great combination of train/car/hotel.
I ate in the restaurant, and while the food wasn’t particularly to my taste, it was well cooked and presented. It was tapas actually.
Overall, the location is excellent, and the quality of the hotel makes it a no-brainer for me when I’m in Lyon.

The room is very spacious with modern decor and practical layouts. The best part is its WC is a separate room from the main bathroom which is very spacious and has a big shower. The location is very convenient for train riders as the hotel is right next to the Part Dieu station. Don't you worry about the noise from the train? You don't because the windows are double windows and are very sound proof. For US$119 (not including taxes) a night with free wi-fi and full buffet breakfast, this is a very good price unless you like to pay 2/3 more and stay in small rooms in old buildings in the old town. Traveling to the old town is less than 15 minutes by metro or you can take the tram or the bus. The public transport system in Lyon is easy to navigate and a day pass is only 5.2 euros. You can buy the day pass either from the bus driver on the bus or from a machine at a metro station, but not on the tram. The shopping mall, Center Commercial is 5 minutes' walk away.

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. It is in an excellent location, next to the Part Dieu train station and close to the link by train, to the airport, Rhone Express. It's just across the street. Be careful when buying tickets for this as I never saw the fine print, which says you have to use it within 45 minutes. Fortunately the kind conductor, wrote a spiel on the back of the ticket to allow me to use it much later in the day.
The hotel staff are helpful, not too clued up on restaurant recommendations though.
Le Splendide a short walk away is outstanding as is L'Est. The food market Paul Bocuse Les Halles is well worth a visit and great for lunch, what a amazing selection of gourmet products under one roof! A real treat if you are a foody.

The rooms are quiet, they have double glazing, the separate toilet is great, only the paper cups for tea / coffee isn't the best, especially if you want more than one cup later. We went downstairs and they gave us china cups and teaspoons. We also got fresh milk from the supermarket, which we could keep in the mini fridge. Beds are comfy, pillows great and faultless maintenance and cleanliness. They also allow late check outs for a small additional fee which is great if you have a late flight.

I would not even bother researching any other hotels, this ticks all the boxes.

While I picked this hotel based primarily on its location next to the train station, it turned out to be a wonderful place to stay overall! The rooms are extremely quiet, spacious, and well equipped. The lobby area is attractive and has a nice lounge area to get a drink and tasty hors d'ouvres. The breakfast buffet is wonderful, and the folks at the front desk are friendly! While it's a bit of a walk to get to the old town area of Lyon, it was a pleasant walk, and we felt quite safe in the area. Highly recommend!

This modern hotel is situated right next door to the major train station, Gare de la Part Dieu and close to local public transport (bus, tram and the metro). The hotel contains nine floors and we occupied room #503 on the fifth floor and while our room faced the main road, it was absolutely quiet. The clean and tidy room was large with a small sitting area, a very large bathroom with rainshower and a separate toilet. The vanity was large enough to spread out my personal toiletries. The bed had a firm mattress and good pillows to give a good night’s sleep. The usual amenities were there like a large flat screen TV, large safe and tea and coffee making equipment. Breakfast was included in the rate and consisted of good selection of cereals, fresh fruit, pastries and a small selection of hot foods such as scrambled eggs and small sausages. There were also a selection of cold meats and cheese. In fact this Mercure has a far superior selection of breakfast goodies than any other Mercure hotel I have stayed in.
There is a very big and busy shopping centre across the road from the train station. The train station is very busy and attracts all sorts of people, so some personal care must be taken when walking around the area day or night. Pickpockets are very active around the area inside the station. On security, I was impressed with the hotel security – my room entry card had to be used to activate the lifts and gave me access to my floor only. This is a well kept, clean and well-lit property. Reception staff were efficient and friendly as were the staff in the breakfast area.

This hotel was excellent. It is right next door to the train station. Area was safe, and no noise from the train station.
I got a room upgrade which was fantastic.
Restuarant was great, excellent menu and reasonably priced.
Totally recommend staying here.
