We (3 females in our late 20s) stayed here for 3 nights. You don't expect much when a hotel is 2 stars, but this was great! The triple room was really big, had a separate toilet to bathroom (very handy!) and was clean. Little bit noisy on the Sat night, but easily forgiven for the fantastic location! Such an easy place to stay - right in the middle of Lyon! Easy walking to absolutely everything you want to see, 5 mins from the tourist info office and on a main street so felt really safe a night. Highly recommend.

For three stars I think this is just an average hotel (more two and a half stars). Larger sized room (corner room) with a large clean bathroom and small fridge/mini bar, but a bit shabby and run down. Air conditioning and safe in the rooms and the windows do a good job of shutting out the noise from the street. The hotels best attributes are a central location on an unattractive but safe pedestrian street, easy to catch the metro or walk to most sights and most of the staff are friendly. For the price (81 Euros/night booked through the hotel directly) it was a decent stay but if I went back to Lyon I would try a different hotel.

The triple room we stayed in from August 26th-28th was very spacious and nicely furnished. It had wall-to-wall windows and a balcony where we hung out and relaxed. The bathroom was huge and had double sinks. Also, the a/c was a welcome treat during the hot summer months. Free WiFi was included in the room rate. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly.

The La Residence is less than a 10 minute walk from the Perrache station. It was manageable with suitcases in tow since the hotel is located on rue Victor Hugo which is a pedestrian only street. There are a lot of stores, cafes and restaurants in the area. Place Bellecour and Vieux Lyon are in close proximity, as well.

My only complain about the hotel was that the beds were not very comfortable and the pillows were too thin. It was difficult for a light sleeper like me to get a good night’s rest. Other than that, we had a wonderful stay.

p.s. We had dinner at L’Imperatoire which was located a few blocks from La Residence. A little pricey, but it was the best dinner we’ve had during our vacation in France.

We were traveling with our 18 year old son, and stayed here two nights. The location is wonderful...on a pedestrian street close to everything. The room was fine except the door to the shower/sink bathroom is not private. Although frosted glass, you can see through it. And the shower did not have a screen. Otherwise, everything was perfect with this hotel.

We stayed at La Residence with our two teenage daughters. The room was quite spacious with decent beds for both our daughters. The bathroom was roomy with two basins, a corner bath and shower over (no screen). The hotel is well located for the centre of Lyon, the bus tours started at the square at the end of the road and there were lots of restaurants nearby. The staff were helpful and the breakfast was quite good.

Stayed here in February and although it's a relatively miserable time of year, being in the city centre in a safe and central neighbourhood, certainly helped. The hotel is very good by French standards, as often you pay more for less...

Spacious enough room with lovely bathroom, windown that opened (yay!), and accommodates those who smoke (albeit these are always the last rooms to be renovated, in Hotel la Residence it seems they treat us with some respect!).

Close to good restaurants, metro and the old town. I don't think you'll find better value anywhere in town, although Hotel des Artistes is also very nice.

We stayed at La Résidence for just one night during the Whitsunday weekend. We had booked a triple room over the internet. When we arrived, we were told that they couldn't give us a triple room, but 2 rooms for the same price. This was fine with us. The rooms were on the top floor, just under the roof, newly refurbished, lovingly decorated with nice bathrooms, tv, in-room safe and air-con. Since our rooms faced a quiet interior courtyard, we decided to sleep with the windows open. Boy, what a mistake. There were lots of mosquitoes in the room. So we closed the windows, put the air-con on full blast. The room was still hot with the air-con set at 18° and the mosquitoes were still buzzing. We spent a very bad night and do not want to imagine what it is like during the hot summer months. Breakfast was very nice, but the breakfast room is tiny and space is limited. Would I return? If it were not for the mosquitoes and the heat in the rooms, yes. The location is great, within walking distance to the metro (Victor Hugo /Ampère), the staff friendly and helpful, the rooms and bathrooms beautiful, but I would not stay on the top floor.
