Great location for a budget hotel. Yes the rooms are small and only double beds but they are quite serviceable. Located close to place bellacour you will find the sights and restaurants within walking distance. Free wifi.

Visited Lyons on long weekend break at the end of August. Rooms very comfortable and quiet, Good breakfast and overall we couldn't fault the standard of service.
Ideally located near to the metro at place de Bellecour. Convenient for the sights of Lyon and within walking distance of the old Lyon and its many restaurants.

During our 3 weeks trip in France & Spain, this hotel in Lyon proved to be exactly what we needed for the 2 nights (July 20 – 22, 2010). We had a double room for 75€/night on the 5th floor. The location was central and allowed easy access to all that Lyon has to offer (very short walking distance to Vieux Lyon, Place Bellecour & Gare Perrache).
GOOD: Very clean, very spacious and pretty quiet room even though our window faced the pedestrian street. The staff spoke a bit of English and they always smiled at you.
BAD: It’s a place where they ask you to leave the key at the front, but we never did as it seemed that anyone can see which keys are available and ask for them.
We haven’t tried the breakfast and we did not have a car rental to test parking availability, so we can’t comment on those. We would definitely stay at this hotel again!!!

My wife and I went to Lyon for an anniversary and booked in for three nights to La Residence. The Hotel was certainly value for money with a smallish room on the 4th floor. We were booked bed and breakfast and were pleased with the choice at breakfast time - bacon, eggs, cereal, fruit, yoghurts, fruit juices tea, coffee, etc. Breakfast is served in a room on the 1st floor and no evening meal is offered.

The desk staff were very helpful suggesting places to go, supplying maps and generally interested in what we had done. They were also English speakers which helped.

The hotel is situated just off the Bellecour, the largest square in Lyon and is in the heart of the shopping area. It was so easy to walk everywhere and the local hop on hop off bus was a great way to see everything and get around. There are plenty eating areas close at hand with great food at reasonable prices. You have to try the mussel casseroles....they are huge!

The room we had was a little on the small side but we generally only occupy our room at night and the bed was comfortable. Gebnerally the hotel couold do with a bit of a freshen up as carpets are a little shabby, towels were small and lacking "fluffiness" (but clean) and there were stains on the bedspread. The shower was a shower head above a very pecularly shaped bath and was a little difficult to access by big people! Tiowels and sheets were changed daily. Air conditioning worked well and the double glazing on the windows cut out any street noise.

The toilet was seperate from the bathroom in a small cupboard. The hotel has free wi-fi access - which was fast - and there is a PC in the lounge with free internet access. Only one comment of real criticism is that it would have been nice to have had tea or coffee makings in the room but it is a minor complaint.

This a great hotel from which to explore Lyon. Well situated and wholly adequate for purpose. We would use it again.

Arrived at the hotel late at night and we were sent right up to our room. Stayed in a triple room with plenty of space (by European standards). Large bathroom with big bathtub. Excellent location off of Rue de Victor Hugo with easy access to restaurants and shopping. Old Town was only a short walk away and easy access to 2 different metro stops. Would definitely recommend it and stay there again.

We stayed at Hotel la Residence for our honeymoon and it was average. Definitely 3 star and no more. Good location for shops and Place Bellacour, but the rooms are outdated with acrylic/sateen bed covers, aircon that gave me breathing issues (I am asthmatic though - and my husband was ok) and unfortunately a light fitting that had water dripping out of it due to us using the air con apparently. A little noisy on the weekend - which is to be expected if you stay in the middle of lyon - but overall an average hotel. Breakfast - average. Beds - ok. Flat pillows. Best part of the stay was the free wifi and the fridge that we could store our own food and drink in. Bathroom is absolutely fine - strong shower for those of you that value a good bathroom (like me) - and a good advantage having the toilet and shower room separate - especially considering we suffered food poisioning from our meal in Paris before we arrived in Lyon! Overall - ok - but don't expect luxury. Expect functionality. Not honeymoon material - if you are looking for that, stay at the Royal on Place Bellacour.

This is the first hotel we stayed in, and we really enjoyed our stayed. It was air conditioned, which was fantastic in the hot summer, very close to the metro, the tourist office, old city, and the center of the city. It's a gorgeous hotel, and the staff was really friendly. It was a great value for the money. The only downside was there was now shower curtain in the bathroom, so when we took a shower we got water everywhere. No biggie though.
