“great hotel for the price”
Reviewed 3 September 2012

This hotel is well situated, near Lyon Parrache, where you have the main line trains, metro and tram lines. It doesn't take too long to walk to the main central area, and in fact I walked to most of the Lyon sights, including Parc de la d'Or and Basilique Notre Dame de Fouviere.

The room was clean, and nicely decorated. I found the bed incredibly comfortable. The toilet/shower room is tiny. If you wanted you could sit on the toilet and have a shower at the same time! However, once you get used to it it's ok, and the shower is actually very powerful. Luckily it wasn't too hot in Lyon when we were there, so we could leave the bedroom window closed. However I can imagine it being quite noisy with the window open.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The free wifi worked well in our room (we were on the 1st floor). We didn't try the hotel breakfast, so I can't comment on that. For the price I paid for the hotel I was very happy.

It is a realy nice hotel. When you come in, you feel welcome and the rooms look realy nice. The city center is just a 5 minute walk. It is easy to find a good restaurant near. Breakfast is good, only the room where breakfast is served was less nice than the rest of the hotel. But overall I had a lovely stay!

Delightful establishment located in the perrache district just south of the main drag in Lyon. We were warmly welcomed by an eccentric receptionist who had us laughing in the tiny lift as we took our bags up to our room.

The room was immaculately furnished, clean, and to very good taste. The blackout curtains and plush high bed ensured a decent nights kip to the extent
That we had to set our alarm to make sure we didn't sleep through most the day.
Breakfast is extra and looked nice although we didn't partake
Staff were helpful and friendly.
Tremendous value for such a well presented hotel.
Should be notes that the main drag is a 20 minute walk over the train station. As this closed at midnight this can mean a slightly intimidating walk through a dark tunnel to return to your hotel. Solo female travellers should bear this in mind.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Victoria. After initially being a little apprehensive over its close proximity to Perrache Station when booking (not the safest place to be around at night), we definitely appreciated its location when arriving and departing by train. The front desk staff are extremely friendly (there was one lovely lady who kindly dealt with our pidgin French and spoke a bit of English, so communication wasn't an issue), and thankfully there is an elevator up to the rooms.

The room itself is modern and well-decorated. The bed is definitely a lot higher up off the floor (got a few bruises from that one), and the bathroom was so tiny that it would get completely soaked after a shower, but these are the only faults I could find with the hotel.

The walk to Lyon is quite pleasant and not long at all. We really enjoyed our stay, and would definitely recommend.

OH, and make sure you go to Brasserie Georges for lunch/dinner, which is right across the road from the hotel. INCREDIBLE.

Whilst this would be a good budget choice for an expensive city, the hotel was somewhat disappointing.

The rooms were clean and well-decorated but, the size of the bed made it difficult even for one person to manoeuvre around. The bed was also so high off the floor that it felt quite dangerous to get in and out, especially in the night.

I stayed in September but, the room was so hot that it became difficult to sleep, without the fan being kept on all night or having a window open, both of which were noisy. Having the lights on in rooms that were very darkly decorated, gave off even more heat.

The shower and toilet area were so small that the toilet extended into the shower area. It was like trying to shower in a vertical coffin and to use the toilet AFTER a shower, left one standing in water. Heaven help you if you dropped the toilet roll!

There was NO luggage space in the room and apart from two hooks and several coat hangers by the dressing table mirror, no clothes hanging space.

On the plus side, the staff were delightful and extremely helpful, speaking good English if needed. The hotel is also very close to tram, metro and railway stations, although after dark, I wouldn't have walked around the area by myself as a lone female traveller...

However, having stayed for an initial two nights at the start of my trip to France, I cancelled my booking for a further 3 nights at the end, as I couldn't face the thought of the airless room or the awful shower/toilet! I went and booked the Ibis next door, for Euros 20 less per night!
