“Excellent location and excellent staff”
Reviewed 29 May 2012

This hotel couldn't be in a better location, in the centre of everything or a very short walk to everything. The staff at the front desk spoke English, were very helpful, and breakfast, very good, and a box lunch are included in the price which is very reasonable. Our bathroom was large and had a big window that opened. Our bedroom, although plain, had a king bed and two big windows that also opened. The hotel is on a short street, now a pedestrian walkway, with restaurants all along including the one in and outside the hotel. Our whole experience in Lyon was terrific including lunch in a bouchon, lots of drinks in sidewalk cafes and bistros, walking the streets and people watching. A great city and a perfect place to stay when there.

I just wanted to add to my earlier review of this excellent hotel in the most central part of Lyon. I forgot to say it is a great 3 star hotel in Lyon and should explain that 3 stars in France compares to 4 or 5 stars in Anglo-Saxon countries. And Lyon, if you have never been there, is a large town in the south-eastern part of France. Lyon is also considered by many to be the gastronomic capital of France - there are many restaurants at various price levels.
If you come to Lyon, do try and stay at this hotel and make sure you eat in a "bouchon" (the local word for a typical gastronomic restaurant) - the hotel staff will gladly advise you on where to eat. A very spacious and luxurious room should cost under 100 euros per night for 2 persons, depending on the time of year of course.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel De La Paix, Lyon for two nights in May 2012.

The location of the hotel is perfect - it is right in the middle of the city so it is really a great area to be basing yourself in.

The customer service at this hotel is superb! All of the employees we met were nice, friendly and helpful. We called the hotel prior to our stay and Guillaume (one of the employees) were more than accomodating in making the various restaurant bookings in Lyon.

The hotel facilities are basic however it is adequate enough for us as we spent most our time adventuring around the city anyway.

We were 3 people traveling. 2 in one room and one in the other. Sebastian was so nice but not great delegating rooms. The 2 got a way smaller room than the one and other than the shower the room was in horrible condition. The hotel needs renovations. I would look further!

Room Tip: Ask for large and modern.

My husband and I had a very nice stay at the hotel. We had a view on the plaza and could see the Fourvier Cathedral out our window. We loved the reception crew, especially Sebastian, and were very happy with the service. The only thing that inconvenienced us was the fact that the shower head was hand held and that there was no shower curtain or anything to keep water from going every where during a shower. It wasn't a huge problem, but we did have to mop up the water off of the floor after our showers. It would be a very easy fix if they mounted the shower head to the wall and provided a shower curtain. Our room was very spacious as was the bathroom, and we loved our views. The location was great. We were close to all of the sight seeing. I would definitely come back and stay there. Our travel companion, who was in the next room, had an enclosed shower stall, so not every room required mopping after a shower.

Room Tip: You could ask for a room with an enclosed shower is this is an issue for you.

This hotel was well located in the centre of Lyon and well priced with the bonus inclusions of breakfast and a daily lunch of sandwiches, chips and a drink. We do however recommend requesting a room that is not on the 5th floor: our first night was spent here and as the floors are laminate we were woken many times by people open and closing doors and walking down the halls. We asked to be moved to another room on a different floor as they were carpeted so less noisy and the staff happily accomodated this request. We found them very kind and helpful.

We had an enjoyable stay in September for about 85 euros per night which included breakfast and a packed lunch (sandwich, crisps and water). Service was fine and it was great to be in the heart of this beautiful city
