“Clean, Affordable - but a little bit away from the main area”
Reviewed 10 June 2013

Don't be miselad by my review title. This is a lovely hotel, with friendly staff and really nice rooms. The only downside is that it is a little bit of a walk to get anywhere.

We booked this hotel for a 2 day visit to Lyon, and we really enjoyed our stay. If you don't mind the 10-15 minute walk to get into Lyon centre, then this hotel is a really good option. We looked around at a lot of other options, and some of the prices for more convenient hotels was just crazy. This was a lot more affordable.

Some reviews mention the rooms are small, but having just come from Paris they seemed huge! The bathrooms are large as well and really well fitted out. Very clean and modern.

Its worth considering this hotel for your stay in Lyon.

I was in Lyon for 3 night for a conference and the Hotel le Roosevelt proved to be a nearly perfect accomodation.
Superbly located in Lyon's 6th arrondissement is close to nice restaurants, the old town, the congress centre and the park!
The only negative point was the bath tub, which was really too tiny.

Hotel wanted €160 for booking direct, after hanging up booked online for €111 about 1 minute later.
Room was very small, big bed small room, no space for a little table, could rest laptop on side but still no space to write.
Bathroom very nice.
Didn't have breakfast as €14 is in my opinion too much for coffee and croissants for one person!
Overall was it worth €111 .... No!

Finding the hotel's parking is quite a challenge and it was an additional $32. We stayed for 3 nights as it appeared to be in a good location to explore. I had requested a quieter room but we instead were given a room on the first floor over the busy street that the hotel is located on. The room was on the smaller side but well laid out. The washroom was clean ad a decent size. Internet worked well. The front desk staff were very helpful with directions. The small lobby area with a bar seemed nice, event though we didn't order anything. When I asked for a cup of tea I was kindly given a pot of tea and allowed to take it to the room. Breakfast prices seemed high so we opted to grab a croissant and coffee on the run. There is a fabulous dinner restaurant right beside the hotel that should not be missed (if it is open).
The old town is a lovely walk along the river.

Room Tip: Ask for a room not on the street side, For parking it is best to stay above ground,

We have been to wonderful 5 Star Hotels in our lives, but this is the first time that we have been to what is classified as a 4-Star Hotel. I certainly have to say that we were more than a little bit shocked. I have been to 2-Star hotels that put this establishment to an abominable shame. The room was sweltering hot and the only way to cool it was to sleep with an open window, so that the freezing temperature outside could balance the nightmarish heat. TV's were the size of picture frame, rooms are small, wall plugs are inconveniently placed. The only saving grace seemed to be the bathroom, which had a beautiful bathtub, which I could not wait to soak my severely sore back in. What happened next was most unsettling. As the tub began to fill I noticed that the water or a liquid that closely resembled urine distinctly contrasted the white porcelain walls of the basin. I almost lost the contents of my stomach, as I had just used this same water to brush my teeth and rinse my mouth moments earlier. I called the front desk and a nice young man came to inspect the abnormality. The best he could do was offer me a key to a room down the hall where the water did not appear to be tainted, so that I may have a clean place to bathe. It was too late to make a larger issue of this inconvenience.

The following morning, we came to the desk to return the key with a keyring that must have weighed 5 kilos for the spare room and see what the hotel intended to do to rectify this problem. Interestingly the girl said that this is something that had happened in another area of the hotel, not related to guest rooms, and said it resulted from some type of heating problem within the hotel. I explained that it was disgusting and we needed to be moved to a room that was sanitary. I was a bit shocked that it required a great deal of coaxing and prodding for her to find another room to send us to. Believe me, the hotel was nowhere near full, so I am not sure why they had a shortage of rooms to move us to. Where I come from, if this had happened, we would have surely been put into the finest room at no additional charge.

When we checked out, we were informed that because we had booked through booking.com they could do nothing accept comp the mini bar, which we did not use or we could have had a complimentary breakfast which was never offered to us.

I am shocked that they were so nonchalant about this and certainly would advise anyone who plans to stay there to seriously evaluate if this hotel offers what a 4 star hotel should deliver to its clientele.

Dear Sir,
Thank you for taking time to give us your opinion following your stay in our hotel that we would like to answer.
In fact, we were a little bit surprised by the strength of your words wich contrast with the quality of our relationsships at the reception.
The incident that you related to was for beyound our control, any hotel could be confronted to this kind of problem.
Anyway, our concern is to find solutions as soon as possible .
First of all, the color of the water is certainly unpleasant but provides no health trouble.
Even if this is the first time that we have this problem, our water is regularly tested and controlled by the laboratory SILLIKER and their results are available to our customers.
To overcome this incident, we offered several solutions (room next to yours that you used the first night or a superior room).
You refused because you wanted to stay in the same place and on the same side of the building.
After dislodging customers, we have proposed the same room but located one floor higher.
We ask you if everything was OK, and it's supposed to be.
It's shame that you did't relate your impression about your second night.
Concerning our TV, the size is 22'' or 32" inches but there is no standard to be rated 4 or 5 stars.
On your departure, we renewed our apologies by offering the minibar and breakfast wich you refused to have.
As with all our customers, we try to to our best and we will continue in this direction by reading and listenning to feedback.
We sincerely regret this incident and hope that you will keep good memories of Lyon.
Sincerely Yours

The staff were very helpful and the hotel appeared to be clean and in fair order.

The bedroom was light and overlooked a car park at the rear of the hotel, noise wasn't a problem.

The bathroom was as basic as they come a mixer tap shower that leaked over a unappetizing bath - this was the low point of the hotel

with so many great places to eat out in Lyon we didn't eat in the hotel.

Overall if you are looking for a base in walking distance this is ok

Nice hotel, clean and good value for money. Not far away from the center if you know the easiest way... Comfortable beds, but the bathroom was a bit "shabby"! The elevator is very small, and I had some problems unlocking my roomdoor...The service at breakfast was superb. The staff even brought it to your room without costs (although the breakfast was not included in the hotel price) The staff was helpful, but I would recommend uniforms and some smiling lessons :) On one occaision when we came back at the hotel 01:00, we needed to mak a phonecall to the hotel, because the night portier did not hear the door bell!!
