Lyon is a city that seems to have it all. Busy river, castle on the hill, wide pedestrian plazas and little winding cobblestoned alleyways, packed with surprises. What a pity, then, that this hotel was a disappointment. There was a hole in the wall, a sloping floor, curtains that wouldn't close properly and a tiny lift that delivered a precarious ride. It was drab and uninspiring, but it did have the virtue of a central location. No room fridge, but they did keep a bottle of wine cold for us in their fridge. Visit the Musee Miniature et Cinema to see movie props and beautifully crafted miniatures. It's well worth the trouble.

Budget hotel that has a perfect location. The lift is hilariously insane, from the sixties at least and requires you take the brace position before it gets to your landing (which has a cupboard door thing instead of the usual automatic steel doors.)
Room was clean and we got exactly what we expected; and is seconds from the vouex Lyon and Cordelliers Bourse Metrostation - if you walk up the hillfrom here you reach a large square with a Leffe bar that does loads of good beers.
Toptip - do NOT pay extra for the breakfast, in the morning walk outside and go right, take the first right and the PAUL bakery is right there. Fresh coffee and crossaints every morning (it has a couple of tables too,or cross the river to the small park on the other bank to eat).

We booked Hotel Modern for its location which was excellent. It was in the middle of everything. We were lucky to find a parking space on the street right in front of the hotel. It took a lot of skills to park in a tight space.

We dealt with two staff, one in each night we stayed. The 1st staff was so so maybe because we arrived late around 22:00 PM, but the 2nd staff was very nice.

Our room was on the top floor which had very low ceiling. Room was small. Carpet was dark. But the room, sheets, comforter, pillow, and towels were clean. Our friends' room was on the ground floor which had much higher ceiling. Both our rooms were inside away from the street, so the rooms were quite in the night.

We did not eat breakfast in the hotel. We had breakfast in nearby cafes. The Grand Cafe des Negociants near the hotel was very nice. We thought it was a fancy restaurant must be expensive; but it turned out to be very reasonably priced with good selections and services for breakfast. Please check link http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g187265-d778109-Reviews-Le_Grand_Cafe_Des_Negociants-Lyon_Rhone_Rhone_Alpes.html

For a two-star hotel, this was a decent hotel especially for its great location and nice neighborhood.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on the top floor, very low ceiling. Rooms away from street are quite.

Reasonable low cost hotel in a location with easy access to shopping centre and Old Town with it’s many restaurants. This is an old property and is well lived in. Room and ensuite was cleaned well and towels and toiletries were replaced daily. On arrival the staff at the desk were somewhat indifferent and spoke no English, however the evening staff were very cheerful and helpful.Street facing room was noisy earlly morning. No English TV channels. Free WiFi worked but I have since found that within minutes of first use an attempt was made to hack my computer. Did not take the hotel breakfast but visited PAUL bakery on Rue de Brest 150m. away for a baguette and coffee. No hotel parking but public parking available about 200 metres away. Overall for a 2 star this was a good find.

Room Tip: If noise could be a problem to you avoid street facing rooms.

Spend 1.5 day in Lyon for some shopping with friends.
Find the hotel location ideal, just where you want and need to be for a day of shopping.
Price fine and in line with the service so you spend your budget in hotel.
No problem also to access the hotel in the middle of the night after a long party night.

The name of the hotel is clearly meant ironic, because it is everything but modern. The rooms are very narrow, not air-conditioned and the walls do not contain any noise. If you have a phone call be sure that the whole hotel will follow your conversation. The elevator is also a last century experience you try once and then never again. And bring also your own soap, in one week it was replaced exactly one time. Gives you at least a good feeling in doing something for the environment....

Usually, you can compensate those things with a friendly stuff. Unfortunately, they are quite consistent in their quality. It is a "funny" experience to wait at 1 a.m. for half an hour in front of the door, because the night watchman fell asleep. I have no complaints about the location, this is the one positive remark...

We visited Lyon on the 15th of July, on a Sunday. The hotel is located in the city centre which is perfect. The only miss is the parking, but at least there are good parking facilities in the neighborhood. The rates were oké, especially for a city center hotel. The reception received us well. They are very flexible, we could pay on the day after without any assurance issues.

We booked a 4 persons room. There were two 2 persons beds. The bed was comfortable, but not impressive. The bathroom was decent. There is also a general bathroom for the floors, which is accesible for everyone in the hotel. The room is decorated well.

The breakfast was oké. The service was good, the personell was very friendly.

In overall a decent two stars hotel, good price and perfect location.
