“Best personal service ever!”
Reviewed 16 September 2011

My wife and I stayed there for four days after visiting Burgundy in our honeymoon trip (which started in Paris, of course). It is true that it is not in the center of town, but it is quite near to the Place Bellecour either by bus (less than 10 minutes, and there is a bus stop right behind the hotel reception) or by car. It is a business hotel, very modern and well kept. Since they knew that we were on our honeymoon, all the employees treated us like the most special guests (something that did not happen in any other hotel during our trip, except for the apartment in the Île Saint-Louis that we always rent when going to Paris, where Giancarlo, the owner, welcomed us with flowers): we were given an upgrade to a Junior (though huge) Suite, that had a separate full living room with a fancy music equipment and even a guest bathroom (there are only 5 suites like that in the entire hotel), and to top it off a chilled bottle of a nice champagne was awaiting us with fruits and chocolates, together with a full one page letter in Spanish (our mother tongue) from the manager welcoming us (that we keep as a souvenir)! As we came driving from Burgundy, they did not know exactly at what time we were arriving, but managed to kept the champagne chilled notwithstanding that we were more than 4 hours late of our intended check-in time! The manager even tried to contact me at my mobile number from Peru to know our exact time of arrival (I heard his voice mails afterwards)! This was just an outstanding beginning of what ended up being the best service ever received in our entire experience from a hotel in Europe. Bravo!

This hotel is quite far from the historic center of the city, but is in the middle of a new conference venue. It's easy to get to the center on a bus, but there is absolutely no charm to this very typical modern business hotel. It is comfortable, however, and the breakfast is very good (22 euros per person for a hot and cold breakfast buffet). The staff may be well suited for business requests, but they don't know much about tourist sites or giving directions. I would not stay here again unless I was attending a conference. We also could find no place in the hotel or near the hotel to get a nice late lunch (2:5 pm). We ended up getting a microwaved pre-made sandwich at a shop a few doors down.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the river, so that was nice.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comment about our hotel, which help us to improve our service.

The comfort and the satisfaction of our guests are our first preoccupations,

We must admit that we are not close to the old city but located in Cité Internationale district, a famous place for business and also leisure, in front of the Parc de la Tête d’Or.
You can find some brochures in the lobby and the staff is at your disposal for any questions.

I am looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Hotel de la Cité Concorde.

Kind regards,
Nolwenn Roux

The hotel de la citenis located in the Cite Internationale complex. This means that it is surrounded by several restaurants, a conference center, and even a museum. Across the street is a huge park that contains many walking/jogging paths and a zoo. It also means that it is not in the center of Lyon. But the C5 bus runs from in front of the hotel to downtown in fifteen minutesnor less. It is easy, safe and convenient. The hotel's staff is friendly and helpful, then rooms are tastefully decorated, and the wifi is free and excellent. The only negative is the 22 euro charge for breakfast.

Although Hotel de la Cite Concorde is not in the heart of Lyon, that slight disadvantage is well worth a stay here. The hotel is in a beautiful complex of museums, theaters and restaurants, across the street from the Rhone and next to a huge city park with a zoo, children's rides, playing fields, walking paths, a lake ... just about anything you could want. The C5 bus runs about every 10 minutes and takes you into the center of Lyon in under 15 minutes. The hotel is beautiful and upscale but reasonably priced, and the staff are very helpful. The only drawback for me is that they do not have coffee makers in the rooms. However, a store next door opens at 7, so you can get that early coffee.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for having taken the time to share your comments about our hotel.

We have taken good note of your remark about the tea and the coffee in the rooms. We have created recently the Executive Rooms. Larger than Classic Rooms, the additional space in the Deluxe category ensures greater comfort for your stay. Additional benefits include luxury bathrobes, tea, coffee and bottle of water.

I am looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Hotel de la Cité Concorde.

Kind Regards,
Nolwenn Roux

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in August. We had requested a junior suite and specifically asked if our 6' son would fit on the pull out sofa. We were reassured he would and that breakfast for three would be included in the rate . Upon arriving, the front desk staff stated that the sofa bed was not a pull out couch and that our long limbed teenager would clearly not fit. We were then given a second room for him - free. The staff was wonderful, extremely kind and accomodating. Everyone at the hotel spoke english and were very sweet to us whenever we tried to communicate in French. The breakfast was very ample with a variety of breads, pastries, cheeses, jams, cereals, juices and coffee. Both roooms were very luxurious, especially the junior suite. The location is within a convention center complex with many restaurants, the Museum of Modern Art, a cinema complex and just steps away from the Lyon public park, zoo and botanical gardens ( a must see). The bus stops outside he complex. This is a wonderful place to stay.Be sure to look for booking specials on line.

stayed four nights with family. had 2 interconnecting rooms on first floor which gave us a huge amount of space. easy access to centre of lyon from bus/tram stop opposite hotel. very clean and well kept rooms. reception area is a bit on the small size. restaurant was shut for renovation when we were there which we were not informed of. the area can be a bit soulless in summer holidays with a few shut restaurants and next to nobody around. the park opposite the hotel is huge and excellent. it is very safe with lots of people jogging, cycling, just wondering round the place till dusk. lyon has lots of great restaurants so would advise travelling into the centre instead of staying local.

the main down side was the shut restaurant. our rooms were directly above. we were woken by hammering in the morning and in the afternoon returned to our room for 90 minutes of drilling. not initially well handled by desk staff. took a phone call top the manager to get it sorted who did but the situation should never have arisen in the first place.

We chose this hotel having seen the ratings on Tripadvisor. I can only say that I would be amazed if this were really the number one hotel in Lyon. On the plus side, the staff are friendly and the rooms are clean and confortable. However, it is little more than a basic modern business hotel set in a completely soulless part of the city, miles from the old town. There is no direct access to the hotel from the car park which means that luggage has to be dragged up a long way. We ate in the restaurant one night and the food was mediocre and some of it was cold before it got to us. I have stayed in hundreds of similar business hotels all over the world, this was nothing special and I would not elect to stay there again.
