“Hotel is ok but location poor”
Reviewed 5 June 2012

Nice enough hotel apart from the A/C being ineffective, when it was 32c outside. Clean modern and rooms comfortable The main problem is location, it's part of a gigantic complex of offices and hotels etc, totally characterless and about a 15 minute car journey from the city centre Its a bit like staying in a shopping mall only bigger. Restaurant quality in the complex was disappointing and the standard of service poor from my experience,I walked out of 2 (including the hotel's) before ending up in the Hilton restaurant which was average. If your at the conference centre it would make sense to be here but other than that stay in town.

Room Tip: Choose one overlooking the river

Dear guest,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your comments about our hotel, which help us to improve our services.

We are sorry about the A/C. We have transmitted your comment to our Technical Director and he already fixes it.

Regarding the location, we are actually situated in the modern place in Lyon, the “Cite Internationale”, designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano (Pompidou Center, Paris). It is true that you will not find the charm of the old city here. You will actually discover a new kind of area, modern but comfortable, very close to the nature (just in front of the Tete d’Or Park) and artistic.

We are sorry to hear that our restaurant didn’t live up your expectations. However, we have taken good note of your remarks and we thank you for helping us to improve the quality of our service.

Please be sure that the satisfaction of our guests is our main preoccupation and we really hope to have the pleasure and the opportunity to welcome you again in our restaurant and in the hotel to give you a better impression of our service.

Kind Regards,
Nolwenn Roux

Don't let the location of this hotel put you off - Lyon has an excellent public transport system & there is a trolleybus stop right outside the hotel. 10 tickets for the bus / metro cost 14 euro.

We treated ourselves to a junior suite which the hotel website promised 'Junior Suites provide extensive views of the park and the amphitheater' - this was certainly not the case for our 1st floor room which provided views of the bar terrace and bus stop (disappointing).

Beds are very comfy an the the hotel is very quiet on an evening.

We didn't have breakfast in the hotel as it was a whopping 22 euro each, there is a small cafe 2 mins walk away though where you can get a coffee / pastry (though not open Sunday morning).

Overall we'd highly recommend Lyon as a city break destination.

Room Tip: The rooms on the 1st floor have no view!

Dear guest,

I would like to thank you for taking the time to share your comments about our hotel, which help us to improve our services.

We understand that the view of your room didn't live up all your expectation and please accept our apologies. It is true that some people prefer to stay on the floor below, while others prefer high floor. For your next stay, please feel free to ask for a high floor when you will book the hotel.

Regarding the breakfast, we propose you a huge buffet with savoury and sweet dishes. If you prefer, we also propose you a breakfast at 10€, included Fruit Juice, Coffee, and a pastry. Please feel free to ask us for more details.

We are looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Hotel de la Cité Concorde.

Kind Regards,

This was the conference hotel for a big meeting I attended in the adjacent complex. It is clean, with decent rooms, and free wi-fi. The location is great if you have reason to be at the congress centre, but it was a €15 taxi trip into the city centre. I only had a few encounters with the staff but they were all very friendly and helpful.

The room was clean and comfortable, and a decent size, with a good bathroom. It was quiet and had an opening window. But the air conditioning was hopeless - even on the noisy maximum setting the room was very warm and stuffy, and with the window open it was noisy and hot. A very helpful chap came to look at it but admitted there was nothing that could be done.

I didn't try the breakfast as it was not included in the already hefty price of the room, and they charged an eye watering €22 for the buffet. There was a cafe in the same complex where I bought a croissant and a very good cafe au lait for a few euros, and a small bakery slightly further along where they sold delicious baguettes.

So the place is fine, and handy for conferences, but very expensive for what it is, and a long way out of the city centre. The problem with the air-conditioning was, however, a major blot on my stay, and pretty unforgiveable for a hotel that charges this much.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for staying at our hotel in Lyon and for giving us your encouraging feedback through TripAdvisor.

Actually, we are located in the Cite Internationale area . It’s a modern place in Lyon, designed by the famous architect Renzo Piano, already known for the Center Pompidou in Paris. You can very easily reach the centre by bus, in 15 minutes only. You can also take a walk in the beautiful Tete d’Or Park, located just in front the hotel.

We are sorry for the air conditioning noise . We are glad to announce you that the problem is now fixed. Please be sure that your comments help us to improve our services

Concerning the breakfast, we think it’s a very important moment of the day. That's why we offer a huge continental buffet with salty and sweety dishes. You can sample, for exemple, some bread, croissant, cheese, vegetables… But if you want, we also propose the formule “Break Fast”, which include a hot beverage, a croissant and a fruit juice.

We would be happy to answer all of our questions.
I hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you back at the Hotel de la Cite Concorde.
Kind Regards,

Ladybug269 says it all. A very modern hotel right next to the Lyon Congress centre (and near the Museum of Contemporary Art) a few miles out from the city centre (both the the Vielle Ville and the commercial centre) but that is all to its advantage and the public transport and hire-a-bike means it easy to get in. The Centre de Congres is an ultra modern development along the Rhone right next to the large Tete d'Or park. The hotel has comfortable rooms with nice soaps and all the usual bits and pieces - but also free internet. I didn't need to, or use service which I suspect is rudimentary but then this is hotel for working and sleeping comfortably.

Room Tip: The rooms looking say from the park have nice views over the river

The Hotel de la Cite Condorde is a nice hotel in a sort of convention/entertainment/dining combination center. It's an unusual arrangement, but it would be great for anyone attending an event in that complex. For tourists, which is what we were, it was pretty far from everything we wanted to see. The hotel itself is nice--although the staff aren't tripping over themselves to be helpful (polite, but you have to actively seek help if needed)--but next time I think we'll stay in something closer to or right in the older part of town.

With that said, rating the property for itself, it's a nice place.

Dear guest,

I would like to thank you for having taken time to share your summary with us and the fellow travellers. Actually, we are located in the Cite Internationale centre, a famous place for business but also leisure. You can find here a cinema (UGC Cine Cite), a casino and, of course, the biggest park of Lyon : The Tete d’Or park.
You can go to the centre of the city by bus, it is very easy and it takes only 15 minutes.

We are sorry to read that our staff did not live up all your expectations. We already discussed your remark with our team in order to improve our services . Please be sure that your satisfaction is our main preoccupation.

We are looking forward to the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Hotel de la Cité Concorde.

Hi recently spent a week at La Cite for business at Interpol. I was thoroughly happy with just about everything, only one very minor issue all week.

The hotel is located in a business compound with another hotel, a congress centre, museum, theatre, several restaurants and cafes. It is bordered by the Seine on one side and Tete d"or park on the other. As mentioned by other reviewers, it is not in the downtown core and is a little off to itself. However, I personally loved the location (and i am usually very much a dontown core type of person). Tete d"or park is beautiful, you can rent bixi bikes right at the hotel and spend a hour biking through the park (which i did twice, and loved it both times), you can visit the zoo (which is free), you can visit the rose garden in the summer, you can grab a sandwich at one of the cafes, picnic in teh park and people watch (including a million dogs and kids). It really is a very nice way to relax on your holidays, or during breaks from business (which not enough people do). In addition, there is a bus stop right outside the hotel that takes you directly downtown in about 10 minutes. The transit system in lyon is excellent, getting to downtown is really not an issue. Keep in mind though, that at night the buses only run about every 30 minutes, so it may take you a little longer to get home. Or, if are barver than me you can rent a bixi bike and bike downtown in about 15 mins. Its a pretty straightforwardroute, i am just scared of biking in traffic.

The hotel itself is very nice. very new, modern and clean. Staff are very friendly and speak perfect english. Check in and out was very easy and fast. I had a room on the second floor facing the park. I am not positive on this, but i think this is the only floor with balconies, which was a nice touch. The bed was big and comfy, with lots of pillows. There was a closet to hang your clothes, but of course theres never enough hangers. There are also cabinets that you can fold your clothes in, or store other belongings. There is a big desk with plenty of work space. Nice big tv, with good pay per view selections.

The bathroom was a good size, very bright and clean. I did find the shower rather finicky; in particular i had alot of trouble getting the hose to stay in the holder. I did complain to the front desk about this and they came and looked at it but said they didnt know how to fix it. I managed to maneuvre it myself, but afterwards,e very shower flooded the bathroom a little bit.

They have a minifridge that is automatic and very expensive, so be careful with it. I bought some water and juice at a cafe and asked for ice to keep it cool (assuming they would send up an ice bucket) but instead they brought me two little bowls of ice! After that i specifically asked for an ice bucket and they stared at me like i had ten heads! So the moral - buying your own beverages is not easy at this hotel.

I ate at the restaurant once, and had a few drinks at the bar once. Both were good, though the service at the restuarant wasn't great.

Overall i would highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on teh second floor facing the park, these have balconies.
