“Don´t think twice, book this hostel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2014

Definitely the best hostel I´ve stayed at (and I have stayed at quite a few...)! Super nice areas to relax in, chill and funky music and very friendly staff, create a great atmosphere. You don´t have a kitchen too cook in, but when you stay in Lyon which is famous for their cooking, you definitely have to go out to eat anyways. The coffee for breakfast is a real plus - the beans, roasted in Lyon, are grinded at the hostel before a every new mug of coffee is served. It´s quite a small hostel, so you can more easily get to know others living there compared to big ones. Clean and new - you won´t believe you really live in a hostel! What more is there to say?

Had a great stay at SLO, clean and brand new. Found it with only a little difficulty, need to catch the metro to avoid the long walk from the station. The staff were lovely and breakfast was satisfying. Would recommend, don't be put of by the surroundings.

The hostel is located next to a metro stop and is about a 15 minute walk to the center of the city and located in an ethnic neighborhood.

The hostel is clean, has big open spaces with white colour to give a pleasant atmosphere. The hosts are friendly and helpful. The rooms don't have air con and during the summer nights this can be difficult. The windows on some rooms face the street and this creates a lot of noise and not to great of sleeping conditions. There is a courtyard where guests can congregate but at night in the summer all windows need to be open for the high temperatures and the noise reverberates here.

The hostel is need of more bathroom/showers. With 75% occupancy there is a lot of lag time to get your day started. Plan accordingly.

The breakfast for 5Euro was cereal and some breads with coffee or tea. I suggest getting your own. Any alcohol must be bought from the hostel and cannot be consumed in the common area.

Room Tip: The street rooms have a bit more noise at night from passing cars with blaring stereos and people wa...

Dear ExploreXYZ, thanks a lot for staying with us and happy to see you had a pleasant stay.

Thanks also for your remarks and improvement suggestions. We will take some of them into account asap.
Regarding your description, I just wanted to precise that our hostel is located IN the city centre and 10 minutes from the most central point of the city, Bellecour square (just need to cross a bridge).

Thanks for your remarks regarding the temperatures in the rooms. As this is our first season, we will try to set up fans in the rooms in the next couple of weeks and we will also change the windows this winter for a better isolation. But temperatures can be really high in Lyon

Regarding the noise, our night receptionist always ask people to keep calm after 11pm and not to stay in the patio. If it is not enough, we will implement new rules to reduce reverberations at night (but this is the problem of patios !).

Regarding the showers, I hope you have seen that there was more showers in the other building and at the first floor ! For your information, the hostel has a better shower per guest ratio than the average on the market.

Regarding breakfast, your remark is a bit harsh ! We also provide fresh croissants and baguette from a local bakery, roasted coffee and all you can eat menu (cereals with milk, home made marmelade, etc.) for only 5 EUR (impossible to find less expensive in a café in France, except if you go in a supermarket) !

Regarding alcohol, french law is very strict and we are not allowed to let our guests to bring and drink their own alcohol in the hostel. That's why we sell cheap and good local beers and local wine in our bar that you can, of course, drink in the common areas and patio !

I wish you safe and good travels in the future

What a great place to base myself while in Lyon. The hostel in clean and maintained throughout the day. The location is great and price is good. The staff are friendly and go over and beyond to assist you or provide advise. Dorms rooms are comfortable with space for all and lockers provided to keep valuables safe. There is a nice common area with seating and breezy courtyard to unwind.
Secure access to the front door. Neighbourhood is fine for female travellers going alone.

A must stay for Lyon on a budget.

I stayed 2 nights in SLO hostel and absolutely loved it! It is like no hostel I've ever been to. Very stilish and trendy, great and confortable common area to spend time. The rooms are amazing, really clean. Each has its own night light and charging. There is a common safebox to use for valuables.
If I ever go to Lyon, I am definitely staying there again.
The location is perfect, 15 minute walk from all of the historical area. Just two stops from the train station and very near by the Metro entrance. It is really perfect.
People were very friendly, helpful and welcoming.

The only negative comment might be, if you like to cook your own food, you don't have a kitchen so as to do so. Breakfast was 5 Euros, and it wasn't that good.

Dear GretGallo
First of all thanks a lot for your comment ! It was a pleasure to welcome you in Lyon.
Just to reply to the 2 negative points you pointed out :
• The kitchen is for our staff because we have to use it to prepare the dinner and breakfast. Unfortunately, according to the french regulation about food safety, our kitchen was too small to share this space with our guests…In order to fix that issue, we let people bring their own food from the supermarket (3 minutes walking from the hostel), use our fridge, microwave or our kettle.
• Regarding the breakfast, sorry if you didn't enjoy it. We try our best to bring fresh and local products (croissants and bread are from a very good local bakery & some jams are home made…) and to keep it cheap (5EUR for a all you can eat breakfast in France is VERY cheap)
Thanks again for staying with us and for your rating ! See you

If you're staying in Lyon, this is definitely the hostel to stay at. It was really clean, relaxed, and everyone at the reception was really nice. The bathrooms were the cleanest bathrooms I'd ever seen for a hostel. For 5 euros, the breakfast was pretty good and cheap. Did I mention it was clean?
