Odalys Residence Lune Argent
Reviewed 23 March 2014

We spent a week here with a group of friends. The apartment itself was clean and modern with a beautiful view of Megeve, however there were 6 of us meant to be sharing the apartment, thankfully 1 dropped out and there was only 5 of us, which was a pretty tight squeeze. It is a difficult location and would recommend not staying here if you don't have a car. There are two bus stops to choose from, one right at the end of street which is a 10 - 15 min walk or one up a really really steep hill that is about 200m from the residence.
Reception at the residence is only open between certain hours which was annoying and staff have good english but didn't go out of their way to help.

My husband and I booked this hotel as we were competing in the FIS masters World Cup alpine ski races in Megeve. When we booked it, it said nothing on the website about the apartments being self catering so we were a little disappointed about this upon arrival. Also, there was no bar as advertised (aside from a breakfast area where you can get coffee and croissants in the morning). However, the apartments were well furnished, very comfortable and modern and had spectacular views from the rooms. They were also quite spacious and comfy with plenty of cupboard space for the two of us. There was also a bunk bed in a separate area, and whilst the apartment was fine for the two do us it would have been far too small for any more than this. Unfortunately we didn't get to test out the jacuzzi so I can't comment upon this.

If you book this apartment, you certainly need a car as it is located on the top of a steep, windy hill. There are no local restaurants or supermarkets nearby and you need to go into the main town for this. It is a short car drive perhaps 5 minutes but if you both wish to have a mulled wine or two after a day on the slopes, clearly you can't drive and then it is a real trek up the hill to get back! It is also quite dangerous when you can't see where you're going as there are no lights up the hill.

Also, it is advertised that there is a shuttle bus. This was still located at the bottom of a steep hill, so when you are trying to carry skis etc downhill it can be quite lethal. On the last day of our stay, my husband and I were due to compete in GS races but the night before, we had a massive dump of snow. We couldn't get our car out of the apartments as the snowplough had put a huge pile right in front of the garages. We started to walk down the hill but it was just too dangerous to do so, we fell over about 5 times and then had to give up and miss our races. We were clearly very disappointed with this.

If you are a couple wanting a nice relaxing holiday , you drive, and don't intend to eat out or drink alcohol, then the apartments are fine. But we certainly won't be going back, mainly because of the location.

I spend a week with my husband and two children 14 & 16 in an apartement for 6 people thinking that we would have enough room, the apartement is quite small only one bathroom and one toilette if we were six it would really be an issue!! The master bedroom is a small place upstairs with NO WINDOW !!!! I don't even think it is legal, for the kids there was a bunk bed in the entree of the apartement the top part was very close to the ceiling so my son had to sleep in the living room area on a sofa bed, the kitchen was nice the bathroom looked good but no were to hang towels also very very low ceiling this was a problem for my husband. We were on the second floor and had a view over the parking, if you decide to stay at this residence you definately need a car as it is far from everything the town of Megeve as well as the skiing resorts are both far. The staff are not always available at the reception, also you have to make your own bed they give you the sheets & towels upon your arrival, i would not recommand this place and will not go back there.

We went in Feb 2012 and really liked it there. You do probably need a car as the residence is up a hill and a bus does go there, but its a bit of a hike. Its about a 3 min drive to Megeve town and close to all three lift areas (again by car though I am sure the bus does the same job)
We were very prepared and took lots of stuff with us that we weren't sure the residence would have in the rooms and would be expensive to buy at the supermarket. So we took a washing up liquid with us, tea and coffee and tea towels, salt and pepper, a sharp knife and all the sort of stuff that you end up buying a huge amount of in a local supermarket and then only use a fraction of because you are only there for 3 nights! We also took bubble bath and our own towels, just to make the experience more personal for us. Megeve is expensive so we found the best way to make our trip cost effective was to have a drink in the town and then go back to the residence for dinner etc. We had an apartment for 4 people and there is a bunk bed there and a sofa bed. We were only there as a couple so we used the bunk bed area as our 'wardrobe' and then used the sofa bed which was comfortable. I think if you went with 4 adults it would be pretty cosy!
All in all I thought it was good value and the service was good. We don't mind things like having to make our own bed and tidying up after ourselves, it was a small price to pay for being able to ski in a beautiful resort for a fraction of the price of most of the hotels and being able to self cater saved us a fortune!
