“Well,”
Reviewed 7 March 2014

It is a nice hotel, mostly from inside, as rooms - suppose not only mine - are covered with wood which certainly provides a warm atmosphere. Skiers must like it for the vicinity of the ski lifts. The only reason I rated it average as there are no other means to express, say, strange experiences. The second night in the restaurant a waitress appeared apparently drunk and when leaning over me I could feel that she must have been a heavy smoker as she reeked of nicotine. The whole place left me with an impression of having no responsible people around who actually would run the hotel. Well, this is France.

Dear Natalie N.

First of all we would like to thank you for choosing us for your stay in Megève.

Secondly, we would like to let you know that your opinion is very important to us and we thank you once again for sharing it, this way we will be able to further improve the services and facilities of our hotel. Regarding your strange experience at the Restaurant, we would like to apologize for the misunderstanding that has shocked us from a major point of view. I personally have dinner in our Restaurant Le Gourmandier every day and I have never encountered that situation. I can ensure that our waiters do never drink before or during working hours and I believe that the good reviews you can see for the restaurant team on internet are a proof of it. In relation to the smell of nicotine, we have taken action and reminded everyone to take into account the basic internal rules in relation to maintaining the best image possible, I understand how uncomfortable it is to feel that smell and I do not accept that to happen in our Restaurant, so, thank you once again for your help to keep improving our service, in this case.

We hope having once again the opportunity to welcome you in a near future to hopefully surprise you and exceed your expectations.

Yours Faithfully,
Royal Rochebrune team.

The hotel is near the lift and it is not far to walk to the restaurants in town. Hotel is nice and clean. Basic facilities and the rooms are small for the price. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Skiing is excellent. Pool closed in winter which is a shame.

Myself and a friend had 4 wonderful days in Megeve in January, we stayed at The Royal Rochebrune.

I've not visited Megeve before but WOW what a gem. Only 1.30 from Geneva we were skiing at midday following a 6.00 am flight from Gatwick.

Booked 2 rooms via booking.com. Arrived at The Royal Rochebrune and immediately felt at ease. This is an oldy woldy traditional ski hotel. Reception staff first rate. Rooms very big and very comfortable. For me the jewel in the crown is the on site ski shop. We got kitted out with superb state of the art skis and boots...no nonsense. 2 minutes later we're on the magical Megeve slopes.

There's a pool table and lots of relaxing areas on the ground floor.

The bar by the restuarant is quite glam.

The peice de resistance is the the Restuarant/Bar that is adjoining the hotel. The most lively fabulous place to spend the wee hours..but this does not impact on a perfect sleep.

Loved this hotel and I shall definitely return soon.

PS. Those wonderful people at the hotel allowed me to keep the room until 5.00pm at no extra cost. Nice touch.

PPS. Megeve Express..Wonderful company. Cant say enough about these guys.

Room Tip: No idea. Our rooms on the third floor were wonderful.

We stayed two weeks from January 4 2014, with demi pension. We appreciated the position of the hotel.vis a vis the walking distance to the centre and the proximity of the Rochebrune lifts. [There are two ski hire shops beside the lifts, and two down at the hotel level.] Yes, as mentioned by others, the rooms are by no means enormous particularly with a super king bed, but very comfortable, ditto the bathrooms. What makes the hotel special is the welcoming and friendly service from the staff - from the reception, housekeeping and finally the dining room, managed by Francesco di Donato, We also appreciated the cuisine. The serving staff are delightful and effective. They made our stay. Thank you Coralie, Raffaelle, David and Fred!

Room Tip: Our room had a connecting door to the next which meant we were careful not to be overheard.

For such an expensive resort I found the hotel not of very high standard , a bit dated to say the least , breakfast was quoted with room rate however they still charged for it , ski lift a bit of a hike up several flights of stairs carrying your skis etc: not the best really !!!

I booked this hotel due to it's location, an 8 minute walk into Megeve and pretty much next door to the cable car at Rochebrune. The hotel itself has nice décor, the rooms although not massive are enough, comfortable, clean and a lovely bath - perfect after a hard days skiing, and housekeeping made up the room beautifully each day. Breakfast each day is a continental choice and lots of it, along with Eggs, Bacon & Sausages. The coffee was delicious. We did have an evening meal at the hotel but visited the bar which is probably the most reasonably priced of all in Megeve which is expensive!!! The staff were very welcoming and in particular Francesco was a star!! The hotel does have a sauna and a pool (but the pool is only for summer as it's outdoor. All in all I was really impressed with this 3* hotel and it was cost effective for the area as well. Ah also the ski hire shops are right next to the cable car and you leave your equipment there over night, can recommend Henry Sport & Ski.

The hotel is more a 3* in my opinion, with its very small rooms, no swimming pool and the advertised sauna in fact paid extra. The rooms are very clean and I really liked the very warm bathroom. Now, the main problem with the room was that it didn't seem possible to turn down/off the heaters and I would have had my private dry sauna there had I not kept the balcony door open at all times as the weather was unusually warm.

Surprisingly, I have to say that the whole hotel team (no exceptions and mostly Spanish) were rather 5*. Everyone super helpful, chatty, interested etc. and clearly making an effort, Some of the staff seemed new to the job and still learning (stayed there just at the opening of the winter season) but their attitude was impeccable. Adding to that a nice breakfast buffet (really a lot of choice for a French challet) I had a really nice time even though unlucky with the snow.

If I were to complain about something else than heating, then the system of storing skis (no ski room, you are expected to leave skis, but no boots, at the ski shop downstairs and there isn't really a way to dry the boots in the room) is rather confusing/disappointing, esp. if you don't rent from that particular store (I always rent from the small store next to the cable car). Also, probably not the best place to choose if you do not intend to spend your days outdoors -> there is very little else you can do in the hotel but sleeping/dining.

And finally, the breathtaking price tag for the rooms... well I suppose is a result of a combination of Rochebrune being really the best possible spot in town if you are keen to be the first on the slops (it is also not more than 10min walk from the pretty centre) with the village being Megeve. And for those two reasons (and the crew obviously!) I would stay there again.
