“centrally located with amazing deco”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 January 2014

I spent one night at the hotel, and it was not difficult to find it as it is just in front of the Roanne railways station. The furniture and the deco are amazingly fresh and funny. The room is clean and the bed is comfortable. The breakfast quality is good but no more.
The bathroom is a bit old style and does not correspond to the price I paid for the room. Actually, the rate price/quality is quite high compared to hotels in this style.

Room Tip: ask for rooms with a view, as the others are gloomy

Stayed two nights here and had a very nice, clean room. A/C worked great which was a bonus as the temp was around 90 when we stayed. The decor is quirky in a fun way and we appreciated the brightness. The hotel is pretty much right across from the SNCF station which worked great for us as we arrived by train. There are some interesting areas around Roanne for touring- the city itself looked a little tired and in my opinion isn't really worth being a destination in itself...sorry, Roanne.

We read reviews and thought this hotel would be fine ... Refurbished rooms, modern and clean! It was not particularly cheap either!

The first room was dark, stale and had stains on furniture! We insisted on another!

This second room looked ok, though gloomy. The problems started when I woke up in the morning covered in angry red bites in lines of three! These got worse during the day and I wasn't sure how I'd got them! Later in the evening I turned down the bed cover and discovered a small, partly transparent, partly red insect crawling over the sheet!

Reception was unhelpful ... The hotel was full apart from rooms we were told we wouldn't want to sleep in ... small and dark with no fresh air ... no choice but to sleep fully clothed on top of the bed! As we prepared to depart the following morning, the day manager insisted there was not a problem as the beds were new and the insect (which was wingless) must have flown in through the window when the maid aired the room! She binned the evidence and dismissed my bites as 'not a problem'!

In addition we spent 24 hours of a two day stay with no hot water for washing or to take a shower ... No notice was on display for so called maintenance work, no information given to guests whatsoever.

A hotel to surely forget! What a relief to leave and be able to shower elsewhere!

An unpleasant experience!

Room Tip: Choose a different hotel!

For a one night stop this hotel was ideal. Quirky detail in the decor, piano couch in reception was cool, string style carpet in the bedroom and pebble wet wall in the bathroom were wuite a touch, but clean and comfortable and the haribos were a nice touch on arrival. Nice wee town with fabulous food and beer within walking distance !

Directly across the street from the train station in the center of town. Solid 2 star. Clean & basic.
As of May the hotel is changing its name to IBIS Styles Hotel, part of the Accor chain, & prices are going up 25%, for the same clean & basic accommodations. IBIS "used to be" a good budget alternative, where you could count on getting a clean room & bath with spotless bedding for a good price, but that philosophy has changed dramatically. Most IBIS hotels are now 65-110 Euros ($84-140++), & then they add another 9-14 Euros ($12-19++) for a "basic" continental breakfast. If you are having to shell out $90-165+ for a "very basic" hotel room, it is no longer in the budget category. There are far, far too many good, solid, clean, independent 2 star hotels available, especially across France, where a room is usually 45-55 Euros, & is often far superior to what IBIS is selling in terms of character & location. Hate to see the budget concept of IBIS disappear, but the last 3+ weeks of traveling in France has been an eye-opener about the loss of IBIS as a "viable" budget option.

The hotel is centrally located and that is about the only nice thing I have to say. The room was tiny (was constantly stepping over my things just to get to the bathroom or the front door). There is no A/C in the entire hotel but they do supply you with a standing fan . . .and not a very good one at that.

We were in a room facing the front and had to keep the windows shut (to keep out the light and sound) so we had to rely on a not well functioning fan that could only be plugged in in one of two outlets in the room. One where our computer was plugged in, or near the front door but the cord was not long enough to cool the room based on that location.

Our first night was so uncomfortable due to the heat and poor fan that we barely got any sleep. My husband decided to sleep in to make up for the lost hours of sleep so housekeeping was unable to make up the room.

Later on that day we asked to move to a larger room but was told that since our room was not made up by housekeeping we couldn't move until the NEXT day since they would not be able to "sell" our room to other patrons (please note that the hotel was NOT sold out). So in other words, since the room was so hot and the fan was not functioning up to par (their fault, not ours) we would have to suck it up for another night before they would move us. Our local friend who had recommended many other people to the hotel tried reasoning with them. . .to no avail. Apparently there was just no way to persuade them "to do the right thing".

But we did manage to get another fan out of them that actually had some life in it. And let me tell you. . .it took quite a bit of convincing to get it.

Just thought they could have done better with the customer service. On the same street alone, there were two other hotels. My next trip to Roanne, I will be sure to check them both out before I stay at Hotel Terminus again.

Room Tip: No A/C so be warned if you stay there in summer.
