“Holidayed here a few years ago - not forgiven them yet”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

We stayed here a few years ago now - earlier than the August 2012 shown in this review. It was awful. I'v only now written this review as I'v only just joined Tripadvisor and used internet. What was wrong with it for us - everything but the lovely restaurant and food. The hotel people were rude and offhand, throwing the key to us on arrival. They were horrible to us the whole time there and seemed to be "anti-British."The room allocated (number 7) had a lovely bathroom but everything else was bad. The holiday brochure said all rooms had a lake or mountain view - we had a car park. The "balcony" was so small only one person could stand on it at a time, but couldn't anyway as it was completely overgrown with bushes and the flooring had nails pointing through. The room furniture looked like it had been thrown together in a school woodwork class, it was rough, splintery and again had nails protruding in places. The bed was uncomfortably. After complaining to the holiday rep (the hotel did not want to know at all) the hotel reluctantly gave us another room. It was much better and was supposed to have a lake view, well it did as you looked through a "slot" between two other hotels in front of it. At the end of our stay the hotel manager tried to obtain more money from us for changing to that room as it had a lake view! Talloires itself is not as detailed in the brochure, I was instrumental in getting most of it corrected. The resort has a couple of nice walks, but is very small and to me, no-where near enough facilities eg only one cafe besides hotels. Transport was bad. Only two ferries daily and these go around the lake - not direct so it takes ages to get to Annecy which is delightful. Only two buses and these go at the same time as the ferries so if you miss one then you miss all. Brochures talk of a "beach" - there isn't one but instead some wood planks locally nicknamed as a "beach." I really don't understand why this hotel attracts good reviews unless there have been some serious inprovements.

Stayed here for four nights to catch stage of the TdF. Great value in a beautiful village which is fairly exclusive. Comfy bed and great terrace. The staff were very helpful and friendly as were the staff at the tourist info. Ate mostly in the local cafe a la place. Onglet and the local lake fish with almonds were Really tasty. Had breakfasts there too which were excellent. Walked up to the abbé st germain and on to the paragliding launch area - great walk and scenery was stunning. Second time in Talloires and once again thoroughly enjoyed it. Annecy is truly a beautiful place and only a one hour bus ride from Geneva airport!

We booked one night via a discount booking service and found a reasonable rate for bed only, having checked out lots of other options. We arrived very early on the day of our stay, having planned to do a circular bike ride round the lake, and would have been allowed to access our room if available, but the previous guests had not checked out yet. However, we appreciated the hotel's offer... The hotel is situated in the very pretty village of Talloires, set back from the lake but with lake views from the terrace and some rooms. It's a pretty hotel from the outside with typical French styling inside. When we'd finished our cycle ride, we returned for a shower (one of the best we've come across!) and were pleased to be shown to a lake-view room with large terrace - great for sunbathing etc but it didn't offer much privacy from the neighbours who could also look into the room from their terrace. The room's decor was quirkily French (enough said!). We dined in the restaurant, which was busy... excellent quality of food and wine. Smiling, efficient service from the staff. We paid the extra 11 euros for the breakfast, which was good with lots of choice and lovely homemade jams etc. However, several guests appeared to have chosen to eat breakfast at the nearby cafe. Talloires and Annecy are well worth the visit and this hotel is an ideal place to stay, although in retrospect we might have chosen a hotel on the other side of the lake to get the more dramatic mountain views behind us.

Room Tip: Choose lakeside view on the top floor if possible for best views!

In the wonderfully situated village of Talloires on Lake Annecy with its seriously expensive choice of fine dining, but also easy lake access to Annecy if you don't want to drive. The hotel is well furnished, the rooms are individual and we had a large lake view balcony with lounger tables and chairs - unfortunately it rained the entire stay so we didn't get a chance to use it. Restaurant good but dinner choice is limited and doesn't seem to change often so you end up eating the same thing.

Room Tip: Lake view worth the extra

Stayed here three nights in June. Room fine, ( 2nd floor) bathroom a bit small but had a bath as well as shower. Enormous balcony overlooking the lake. Food ok but chef seemed to be obsessed with putting sweet additions or sauces in main dishes, eg apricots with Foie Gras, fish with limes. Nice terrace, but not overlooking the lake. Eating in Talloires is VERY expensive, as they seem to have all jumped on the Pere Bise bandwagon. Basing the menus on local delicacies would limit them in the Haute Savoie - ie you get cheese a lot, and , well, cheese

Room Tip: get a room at the back overlooking lake, or you will overlook the road and get no sun!

Talloires is, in my view, the nicest place to stay around Lake Annecy although pricing is at a bit of a premium.
Hotel La Charpenterie is easy to locate in the centre of Talloires with its own car park. We were always able to park in the hotel car park, but it is also possible to park on the side of the road closeby.
Quite an attractive hotel inside and out. Our room was on the 1st floor with a large balcony and views accross Lake Annecy. Rooms at the next level have smaller more private balconies and even better views. Our balcony had a table, two chairs and a sunbed, but not entirely private as the screening does not extend for the full length of the balcony. Not a problem to us however.
Rooms are clean with wood panelling and well fitted with small slimline TV, room safe, mirror, pictures, wardrobe, table, chairs, phone, etc.
No in room tea / coffee making equipment as is usual with French hotels.
Nice clean bathroom with bath / shower, wc and basin. Toiletries provided.
Staff friendly and helpful with plenty of English spoken.
Nice Restaurant. We were staying on a half board basis and food was a bit disappointing - only one choice of maincourse. I calculate that of the price paid 24 Euros per head were allocated for the evening meal - I would much rather put that sum to one of the other menus on offer with more choice or had the option to eat elsewhere.
Talloires is one of the more expensive areas to stay around Lake Annecy and with that in mind La Charpenterie represents quite good value with regard to both accommodation and restaurant.
We enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

Room Tip: Choose an Upper level room with views accross the Lake. The highest level rooms have smaller balconi...

We have stayed here about 4 or 5 times and we enjoy the view from the rooms and the warm hospitality of the staff. The lodge has a great restaurant open for lunch and dinner. It is in the center of the village which is fun to walk around with good restaurants, a grassy beach, parking, a supermarket, cafes, and boat rentals. We also had fun tracking the para-gliders that float off the mountain top above. The town has a shuttle which takes passengers to the jump off point. You can also access the town by the lake boat.

Room Tip: The rooms on the mountain side have more shade in the afternoon so stay cooler than the lake front r...
